Higher education and career planning are often conflated in India. Education and careers play an important role in our lives, and deciding on a career path is one of the most important decisions we can make. It decides our way of life and forms our future. Because of the current need for changed competencies of trained librarians and information scientists, as well as the resulting improvements in educational pedagogies and instructional techniques, ICT has had a significant impact on the education of LIS professionals. Through the integration of new ideas and services, ICT has played an important role in this paradigm shift and brought major changes to the field of library science. The professional qualifications or experience provide in this paper depend on promotions put in the library by universities or organisations for various levels of staff, indicating a lot of variety in comparative kinds of positions and an absence of clarification of ICT-based abilities criteria. The current paper analyzes how progresses in ICT have impacted and transformed library science education and courses, just as library science professions or careers. It also discusses the library profession's changing position, as well as LIS careers and education in the digital age.

This Paper attempts to describe the impact of emerging changes on the role of libraries. It further explains different skill sets required by library professionals for the digital environment. This article stresses that the growth and continued existence of LIS Professionals in this digital technology based environment are dependent on their ability to acquire new skill sets to navigate the electronic environment effectively and also compete favorably with counterparts from other disciplines who want to library responsibilities from the librarians. LIS EDUCATION IN THE DIGITAL ERA
This paper presented the development of LIS education in India and influence of technology in LIS education. Information explosion due to the modern technology change the designation of librarian to information scientist who is capable for retrieve right information to right user at right time. The user community only that brings the professional sustainability of a librarian must recognize this change from a traditional librarian to information scientist. This occurs only through the good education in handling or managing the technology. So the curriculum of LIS education must be IT oriented but it is different from other IT professional.
In the LIS profession, ICT skills have tremendous importance in this era. The majority of library services are now online for users. The present study attempted to investigate the ICT skills and competencies of LIS professionals working in the D.Y. Patil institute libraries. A total of 25 LIS professionals were chosen for the present study, and their skills and competencies were assessed through the data collected from the questionnaire. The study examined the skills and competencies of LIS professionals based on information searching skills, the purpose of using the internet, the frequency of using the internet, the use of various ICT devices, library software, ICT applications, challenges in acquiring ICT skills, and the required area of training. The researcher found that LIS professionals working in the D.Y. Patil Institute libraries are skilled in searching and handling ICT applications and devices. Also, 80 percent of LIS professionals are proficient in using library software and its modules, and more than 80 percent of LIS professionals are aware of Web 2.0 tools. Cloud computing and web design are the areas where LIS professionals need to improve their skills through training and continuing education programs. In this study, we will examine how much the library staff knows ICTS, how much they know about digital facilities, and what they are doing to update their knowledge.
ICT Skills and Competencies for LIS Professionals in Digital Environment
The rapid development of technology, digitalization of information, availability of e-resources and increasing demand of users has changed the scenario of libraries in present era. Now a day's libraries have reached beyond the four walls of building & have converted into digital or virtual libraries. The information and communication technology has also brought the drastic change in traditional method of information storage, retrieval and dissemination, which posed challenges for LIS professionals to move from traditional role of librarian to information or technology manager. Today's librarian needs to update and upgrade themselves with the latest technology so that they can survive in technology driven era. The present paper deliberates the changing role of librarian in the digital era.
