Primary Malignant Mixed Müllerian Tumor of the Ovary (original) (raw)

A Rare Case of Bilateral Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumor of Ovary

Research Journal of Pharmaceutical, Biological and Chemical Science, 2017

Malignant mixed mesodermal tumor (MMMT) of ovary accounts for less than 1% of all ovarian tumors. These aggressive tumors with malignant epithelial and sacromatous elements occur mainly in postmenopausal, low parity women These tumors have aggressive clinical course and very poor prognosis. We herein present a case of malignant mixed mesodermal tumor In a 57 year old postmenopausal woman who presented with complaints of pain and mass per abdomen with loss of appetite and progressive anemia for the last 15 days. There was no history of vaginal bleeding and no relevant past medical history. A large palpable mass in the pelvis was observed during examination. A contrast enhanced CT scan of abdomen revealed a large, complex abdominopelvic mass with multiple omental deposits along with gross ascites.Ascitic fluid cytology reported metastatic ovarian adenocarcinoma. The patient was planned for NeoAdjuvant chemotherapy to be followed by interval cytoreduction surgery and further adjuvant chemotherapy. At approximately 5 months postoperatively, the patient remains alive and recurrence free.

Extremely Locally Advanced Ovarian Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumor in 37-Years-Old Female

PRILOZI, 2017

Ovarian carcinosarcomas, rare variant of ovarian carcinoma, composed of both carcinomatous and mesenchymal components, solid and/or cystic, fleshy and hemorrhagic, frequently spreading beyond the ovary, are treated with surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy according to the treatment principles of ovarian carcinomas due to the small number of reported cases and lack of randomized studies. We report a case of a 37-year-old woman with clinical signs of extremely locally advanced tumor of ovarian origin, infiltrating the lower left quadrant of the abdominal wall with necrosis of the covering skin. Prior biopsy of the left ovary and omentum confirmed poorly differentiated serous adenocarcinoma. Bulky tumor the size of a child’s head, originating from the left ovary and infiltrating into the lower left quadrant abdominal wall was debulked with wide excision of the abdominal wall and creation of wide defect of the lower left part of abdominal wall covered with Dexon mesh. After the recovery, ...

Primary Ovarian Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumour: A Case Report and Brief Review of Literature

Journal of clinical and diagnostic research : JCDR, 2016

Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumour of the Ovary (OMMMT), also referred to as carcinosarcoma is a very rare tumour accounting for less than 1% of all ovarian cancers. Due to the rarity of OMMMT, little is known about the disease course and outcome of women with these tumours. It is important to evaluate because of its aggressive behaviour with extremely unfavourable prognosis. These tumours are composed of both malignant epithelial and mesenchymal elements. Current data in the literature is still limited to small case series and case reports, therefore, its optimal treatment is somewhat controversial. In the current report, we introduce a case of OMMMT which was successfully treated with Platinum-based combination chemotherapy after optimal cytoreductive surgery. The clinical manifestations, pathologic characteristics, diagnosis and management of these tumours are reviewed here. Although the most effective treatment is currently unknown, optimal cytoreductive surgery and platinum-based...

Malignant mixed mullerian tumor of the ovary: A rare entity

2021

Malignant mixed mullerian tumors (carcinosarcomas) of the ovary are very rare neoplasms which account for less than 1-2% of ovarian tumors. These are associated with an aggressive clinical course and a poor prognosis. Here we are reporting a case of carcinosarcoma of the ovary. Keywords: Carcinosarcoma, Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumor, Ovary.

Synchronous occurrence of primary malignant mixed müllerian tumor in ovary and uterus

Obstet Gynecol Sci, 2013

Malignant mixed müllerian tumor (MMMT) arising from female internal genitalia is rare with the uterine corpus being the most prevalently affected site. It is even more rare when it occurs on both uterus and ovary at the same time. We describe a case of synchronized occurrence of MMMT on ovary and uterine adenosarcoma with review of literature.

Bilateral ovarian malignant mixed Mullerian tumour: A rare entity

2013

Malignant mixed Mü llerian tumor (MMMT) is a rare neoplasm of the female genital tract. We report a case of bilateral ovarian MMMT in a 10-year-old female dog. Ovaries were only moderately enlarged with a papillary surface and firm nodules. Multiple metastases were observed in the abdominal cavity and pulmonary parenchyma. Histologically, both ovaries had intermingled carcinomatous and sarcomatous components with cartilage and bone. Metastatic lesions were not mixed. The peritoneal metastases were carcinomatous; pulmonary metastases were sarcomatous. Carcinomatous elements of the MMMT were immunohistochemically positive for cytokeratin (CK) AE1/AE3, CK7, and vimentin and estrogen receptors. Conversely, the sarcomatous cells were positive for vimentin, but negative for CKs. Chondrocytes also expressed S-100 protein. On the basis of similarities to human ovarian MMMT, the diagnosis was heterologous malignant mixed Mü llerian tumor of the ovary.

Cystic Primary Ovarian Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumour

Online Journal of Health & Allied Sciences, 2020

Primary carcinosarcoma of the ovary is a rare, challenging malignancy of the female genital tract. Preoperative diagnosis of this tumor is seldom made as it mimics epithelial ovarian tumors. We report a case of 45 years multiparous lady who underwent staging laparotomy to disclose smooth surface left ovarian cystic mass with minimal solid areas. Histopathologically a biphasic tumor with malignant epithelial and mesenchymal component was seen. Explicit diagnosis of primary ovarian carcinosarcoma was established using immunohistochemical marker study. Primary mixed Mullerian tumor of the ovary has to be considered in the differential diagnosis of predominantly cystic ovarian lesion with minimal solid areas. Regular followup and close monitoring of the patient is required to understand the behavior of this exceptional tumor.

Ovarian malignant mixed Müllerian tumor: a rare case report from Tanzania

Journal of Surgical Case Reports, 2020

Malignant mixed Müllerian tumor of the ovary is rare aggressive tumor that is histologically defined by the presence of malignant epithelial and stromal components. We report a 37-year-old woman who consulted our facility complaining of abdominal distention and a painful palpable mass over her lower abdomen. Physical examination including computerized tomography revealed a complex cystic mass lesion on the left ovary with extensive omental involvement. Ovarian cancer was suspected and the patient underwent debulking surgery. The histopathology of the specimen revealed a high-grade tumor composed of both malignant epithelial and sarcomatous elements. Both epithelial and stromal components stained positive for p53 immunostaining. Before the initiation of chemotherapy, on 5th day postoperation, the patient was found unresponsive. The stage of the disease seems to be the most important prognostic factor, thus emphasis should be made to identify it in earlier stages.

Mixed Mullerian tumor: a case report

International Journal of Reproduction Contraception Obstetrics and Gynecology, 2017

Malignant mixed Müllerian tumor, also known as malignant mixed mesodermal tumor, MMMT and carcinosarcoma, is a malignant neoplasm found in the uterus, the ovaries, the fallopian tubes and other parts of the body that contains both carcinomatous (epithelial tissue) and sarcomatous (connective tissue) components. A 50-year female P1L1A1 with complaints of pervaginum bleeding and pain in abdomen was diagnosed to have carcinosarcoma endometrium for which hysterectomy with bilateral salphingo-opherectomy was done.
