Information and communication technology (ICT) and administrative processes in universities are becoming challenging especially in developing nations, such as Nigeria, where governments place less emphasis on administration and education. Many government-owned public institutions, including federal public institutions, are finding it difficult to raise enough resources for such enterprise. This study investigated the ICT and administrative processes among staff of universities in south-eastern Nigeria. Three hundred and twenty seven (327) respondents were selected from two universities in south-east, Nigeria. The results show that availability of ICT, which is one of the administrative processes, contributed 11% to the unique variance in impact of ICT on administration (β = .32, t (235) = 6.22, p < .001). The study also reveals that there is a strong relationship between usage and impact of ICT on administration in southeastern Nigeria. The gender and the universities of the resp...

The study investigates the impact of information and communication technology (ICT) on the management of public Universities in Benue State. Four research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted the quantitative research design using the descriptive survey method. The population of the study is 1,748 comprising all the staff of the public Universities in Benue State, of which 446 staff were sampled through the cluster, random sampling and Yamane Taro's sampling technique. A validated instrument titled "Impact of ICT on Management of Universities Questionnaire (IICMUQ)" was used with a reliability coefficient of 0.81 via Cronbach Alpha analysis was used for data collection. The research questions were analysed using percentages, mean and standard deviation and t-test statistic was used to test the hypotheses. The results of the study evidence that the level of ICT facilities available in Universities in Benue State is low as well as the level of computer knowledge by University staff in Benue State, ICT has a low impact on the management of admissions and finance in Universities in Benue State, and the perception of staff in the Federal and State University in Benue State on the impact of ICT on the management of admissions and finance is not significantly different. Consequently, the study recommended that among others that the University management should boost the availability of ICT facilities in Universities in Benue State.

The main objective of the paper is, therefore, to examine the challenges and proffer sustainable solutions. The General System Theory was adopted as the theoretical framework for the study. The research is descriptive and quantitative. Sources of data were primary and secondary while a well-structured questionnaire was used to elicit information from one hundred and seventy four (174) respondents, randomly selected out of an estimated population of three thousand, five hundred (3,500) ICT users, comprising academic, non-teaching staff and students from three universities (federal-1, state-1 and private-1) in Ogun State, reputed to be the only state with the highest number of universities in Nigeria. Relevant hypotheses were tested and the data were presented using tables and percentages. Chi-Square and ANOVA statistical tools were used to analyse the data. Findings show that the challenges facing the use of ICTs in the universities include high cost of ICTs, low computer-literacy among university staff and students, epileptic power supply, absence of ICT policies and poor political-will to implement such policies, where they exist. The paper concludes that the prospects are bright and that more universities would embrace the use of ICTs in their operations when the identified challenges are tackled.
This study investigated the provision of information and communication technology (ICT): A modern tool for management in Cross River State Universities. Ex-post factor design was adopted. To guide the study two hypotheses were formulated. Data collection was carried out using self constructed instrument called information and communication technology education management questionnaire (ICTEMQ). The hypotheses were tested with independent t-test statistical technique at 0.05 alpha level and 166 degree of freedom. Results obtained showed that there is a significant difference between federal and stated universities in their provision of ICT facilities in respect to students' record management, staff record management and financial record management, research and publication, teaching and examination management. It is recommended that Nigerian Government at federal and state level should make more funds available to universities to provide more ICT facilities for educational management.
The study surveyed the availability and utilization of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in tertiary institutions in Niger State. To elicit responses for the study, four research questions were raised and three hypotheses formulated. One hundred and fifty lecturers, 90 males and 60 females were randomly drawn from three federal tertiary institutions in Niger State to participate in the study. Data was collected for the study through the administration of 35 -item questionnaire to respondents. A test re-test method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument, the result was appropriately scored. The data obtained were analysed using mean to analyse the questionnaire respondents while ANOVA was used to analysed the hypotheses. The findings showed that there was inadequate provision of ICT facilities in federal higher institutions in Niger State and that there is no significant difference between the availability and extent of effective use of ICT facilities and equipment for teaching and research purposes. It was recommended among other things, that there should be adequate provision of ICT facilities and equipment in the tertiary institutions, the existing ICT facilities and equipment should be judiciously used for effective teaching and research purposes. The implications of major findings were discussed and recommendations were made for the availability and utilization of ICTs in higher institutions in Nigeria.
