Educational practice in virtual laboratories for engineering studies (original) (raw)

Virtual Laboratory in Engineering Education

This paper presents a few aspects about the facilities of a Virtual Laboratory. It represents a group of devices (measurement instruments, hardware, software) placed in different places, offered to users, placed everywhere, for working with them. Virtual instruments developed with National Instruments software LabVIEW give opportunity to students to have power full instrumentation within the software, while measurement is performed in a laboratory. Virtual instruments even enable students to build their own instruments, using software-simulated signals. .

Virtual Laboratory in the Engineering Education

2013

The following article presents the concept of uses virtual measurement tools as a modern means of teaching in the engineers' education, in the context of effectiveness of developing expected engineering skills. A short evolution of the measurement system leading towards visual programming is also presented. The article describes construction of virtual devices in LabVIEW, methodology of designing measurement systems in this program, as well as features of virtual instruments and their possible uses in laboratory measurements.

Development and evaluation of virtual laboratory for engineering education

2015

Practical component is often considered as one of the most important characteristics of the engineering education. In this context engineering education laboratories play very important role, by helping the students to test theoretically acquired knowledge, enabling them collaborative environment, trial and error learning approach and offline analysis of the experimental results. However, permanent availability of the laboratory and the equipment is one of the main problems in the process of learning. Sometimes, they are even completely missing. The rapid development of information and communication technologies in the last decades has made a huge impact on the education system with a special emphasis on the engineering subjects. The advances of web technologies on the other hand have also significantly improved online and collaborative learning, and students’ learning experience in general. This paper presents a developed virtual online laboratory that aims at helping high school s...

Virtual Laboratories in Engineering Education: The Simulation Lab and Remote Lab

Computing and communication technology has had a significant impact on the engineering education system. This technology has improved online and collaborative learning. Besides that, it improves the students learning experiences. One of the distinguishing elements of engineering education is the laboratory requirement. In this paper, we discuss the current trends and key issues in virtual laboratories-simulation environment laboratories and remote laboratories via the Internet. ß

Virtual Laboratory for Engineering Education: Review of Virtual Laboratory for Students Learning

Engineering Science Letter

E-learning is currently a rapidly growing trend which attempts to provide an infrastructural configuration that integrates and encompass learning content, services and tools as a single solution which can generate and deliver educational contents and training effectively, efficiently and cost-effectively. In advanced technical education, laboratories are essential learning spaces. Providing laboratory facilities at universities with limited funds and technical know-how is difficult due to the high expenses of installation and upkeep. In order to tackle these obstacles, "virtual laboratories" have been established. Through remote access, virtual laboratories make it possible for users to conduct experiments similar to genuine systems. Consequently, resources of laboratories can be shared across a wide community of geographically dispersed customers while restricting operational expenses and initial set-up to one single institution. This article reviews the virtual laborator...

Virtual Laboratories at Technical Universities

Jdim, 2005

The paper discuss a problem of a usage of virtual laboratories in teaching process at technical universities. The analysis of advantages and disadvantages of simulated laboratories and laboratories with an distant access is presented. Also different ways of implementing simulated virtual laboratories are given. Moreover, the problem of the supporting virtual laboratories by multimedia lessons and a usage of e-platforms is raised. Several examples of virtual laboratories application at Wroclaw Technical University are also given.

Virtual Laboratories for Engineering Education

2021 11th International Conference on Advanced Computer Information Technologies (ACIT)

This contribution deals with the application of modern technologies to develop virtual laboratories for civil engineering education. These virtual laboratories allow students to conduct laboratory experiments anytime and at anyplace. Students can conduct tests as if they were in a real laboratory, interpret the results and apply the results to practical situations using 3-D simulated apparatus. Each student has his/her own virtual apparatus to conduct not only the standard tests but also a variety of tests that existing, real equipment cannot accommodate. These virtual laboratories can enhance learning, retention and transfer of learning, extend the range of testing and allow for exploration of what if situations without the need for laboratory space (real estate), equipment and associated human resources. Interactions are coded in the virtual laboratories courseware to recall prior knowledge, to stimulate learning and to test learning outcomes. Virtual laboratories for a geotechnical engineering course are used to demonstrate how they can be used for engineering education.

Enhancing education in electronic sciences using virtual laboratories developed with effective practices

Computer Applications in Engineering Education, 2014

The aim of a Virtual Lab project is to provide students access via the Internet to various experiments in those Universities where the infrastructure resources are poor. Moreover, a Virtual Lab is based on a distance education concept due to the fact that certain students may be interested in studying even at places which are far away from University eliminating the necessity to be there in person. However, methodologies used in the development of this kind of educational applications have too many problems: a lack of common theoretical frameworks which can be used by anyone in the project, and excessive formality in both technical and pedagogical factors. So, considering these factors, the introduction of "effective practices" within an alternative methodology to develop this kind of software is proposed. The applications of the Virtual Lab have been tested with the students enrolled at Technological University of the Mixtec Region and the initial educational results of the implementation of the DCLab software are presented.

Technology of Virtual Laboratories

Modern higher school requirements specify the necessity of world-wide improvement of teaching forms and methods. With higher institutions being provided with all training aids, a teacher is often not able to give students to the full extent all knowledge the modern society demands for. This problem can be tackled entirely with the help of virtual computer-aided laboratories. Actions being concerned with physical processes and taking place on a computer display introduce quite a new element in conception of physics. Being a source of information a virtual simulator enlarges a lesson so that it contributes to more complete subject perception by a student. Computer imitation dynamics is not only used to display object motion but reveals the mental consistency from ignorance to knowledge. Virtual laboratory is a computer program performing a function of a training simulator and providing a three-dimension model of a unique or typical facility. Combination of extensional object visualization and sound allows to be wrapped up in the virtual world oriented to realistic working conditions and affords an opportunity to participate effectively in a physical experiment. The basic virtual simulator application is performing laboratory work in a variety of engineering disciplines.
