MEANING BEHIND THE POEM: AN ANALYSIS OF TRANSITIVITY OFPOEMS IN ROMANTICISM PERIOD

Romanticism period is the period of poem. The themes of poems in romantic era are dominated with nature, freedom, equality and confraternity. To get the meaning of the poem, the readers have to interpret the intention in the poem. One of the ways to convey the meaning is by analyzing the transitivity pattern in the poem. Transitivity is represented the experiential meaning that are meanings about the world, experience and what is going on in the clauses. The purpose of this research was to figure out the ideas contained within the three poems in romantic period. The data were three poems in romantic era entitled I wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth,The Battle of Blenheim by Robert Southey, and London by William Blake. Descriptive qualitative method of transitivity technique was employed in analyzing the process types occurred in the three poems. The process types were then calculated and cultivated to reveal the meaning behind them. The findings showed that there were 7 material processes, 2 mental processes, 9 behavioral processes, and 2 relational attributive in the poem entitled I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud. Then in The Battle of Blenheim, the processes that found were 9 relational attributive, 10 behavioral, 4 mental, 24 material, 1 existential, and 9 verbal processes. Meanwhile in London, the processes were 6 material and 3 mental. The finding result of transitivity has a relationship on the idea of poet at the romantic period.

Romanticism

This paper is intended to discuss the definition of the concept Romanticism in the late of 18th century and the early of 19th century in England. It illustrates how the voices of romantic writers in this era have a variety of mentalities and styles. So, instead of having the term Romanticism, we are having the term Romanticisms. In particular, this paper will clarify how the romantic poets include many different themes in their works. They did not only write about the theme of nature. Moreover, this era have a great women romantic writers who compete men romantic writers .Wherefore, this paper are supported by many examples and evidences in literature to prove and promote all of these issues .This research paper will help to increase our knowledge and to change some ideas about the Romantic period. At the end of this paper, we will have a new perspective toward the concept Romanticism its self and the period at whole.

MIXING PLEASURE AND BEAUTY: POSITIVE AESTHETIC EXPERIENCE IN OLD ENGLISH POETRY

This article analyses 23 different lexical items in Old English denoting positive aesthetic emotion, more specifically, related to the expression of appearance, moral qualities, and personal pleasant experience with the aim of gaining a better understanding of aesthetic standards in Anglo-Saxon England. Using different lexical tools, corpora and software, I have built a database where I have annotated the attestations from the corpus taking into account different sociolinguistic criteria. An in-depth analysis of these fragments and their statistical treatment has shown that descriptions of beauty in Old English poetry have two main routes: a) one that addresses the object's aesthetic qualities objectively and b) another that focuses on the subject's response to it. Este artículo analiza 23 lexemas que denotan emociones estéticas positivas en inglés antiguo, más en concreto, relacionados con la expresión de la apariencia, la moralidad y la experiencia personal agradable, con el objetivo de entender mejor la experiencia estética en la Inglaterra anglosajona. Valiéndome de distintas herramientas lexicográficas, corpus textuales y software informático, he creado una base de datos donde he anotado las atestaciones del corpus atendiendo a distintos criterios sociolingüísticos. Un análisis en profundidad de estos fragmentos y su tratamiento estadístico ha demostrado que las descripciones de belleza en la poesía en inglés antiguo tienen dos rutas principales: a) una que se centra en las cualidades objetivas del objeto y b) otra se limita a la respuesta del sujeto. Estas dos posibilidades a menudo son complementarias en textos de una naturaleza religiosa. ROMANTIC POETS LOVE NATURE AND CELEBRATE IT IN DIFFERENT ASPECTS

This study shedding light on the nature of romanticism in English literature. This study shows the great impact of nature on English romantic poets. The movement of English romanticism has a great influence on English literature. So the study would like to show the role of the famous English romantic poets like SHELLY & KEATS, in adoring nature through poetry. It concluded that the English romantic poets who were influenced widely by nature have affected their literary product English poetry as well as adore nature and produce fantastic verses of poetry. It serves as a mirror which reflects all the humanistic activities in people social life. Their outlook on life, their ideas, emotions, and traditions. Poetry is one of the branches of English literature. It has been defined Wordsworth as the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings or the expression of imagination. Elfar (2010) mentioned according to Robert Frost, poetry is a rhythmical composition of words expressing an attitude, designed to surprise and delight and to arouse an emotional response (Kennedy, 1978:5), poetry is a rhythmical composition of words expressing an attitude designed to surprise and delight, and to arouse an emotional response.

Importance of Romantic Period in Modern Day English

The aim of this research paper is to analyse the significance of romantic era in English Literature. This era brought a revolutionary change in English Literature and transformed English Literature to a vast extent. Romanticism era began spanning approximately 1800-1850. This was totally in contrast to existing idea of English literature and it emphasised individual heroism that changed the overall concept of humanity. It stressed upon human emotions and individual feelings instead of stressing upon cultural artificiality. This study has provided a constructive overview on ways this era influenced area of English Literature. It is based upon a secondary research method that aided in finding relevant literature on romantic era. By reviewing those articles this research paper has been developed to provide a clear concept of ways romanticism marks a milestone for starting a new era in English Literature.

Supremacy of Imagination in Romantic Poetry

Imagination is one of the pertinent characteristics of Romantic poetry. Romantic poetry is subjective and extrasensory. The subjectivity and extrasensory instinct are rejuvenated due to heightened imagination. The prime purpose of this brief article is to elucidate how imagination plays a significant role in Romantic poetry. For this purpose, poetic works of Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley and Keats are analyzed. The writer has extracted some verse lines from some of the poems of these poets and has mentioned concisely how these verse lines signify the supremacy of imagination in their poems .This article is fruitful to the teachers and the students who are actually interested in studying English poetry.

Vision of Nature: Romantic Poetical Imagination

The present study depicts the vision of nature in the romantic poetical imagination. The objectives of the study to explore Wordsworth and Coleridge's vision of nature by using poetical imagination in romantic poetry. The concept of nature having the connectedness to imagination in romantic poetry, stressing the faculty of imagination to get access to a kind of knowledge that cannot be provided by other means, the senses or rationality. This concept was initiated and developed only during the romantic period. The conceptualization of imagination in poetry as a tool to understand reality that indicates a change in the concept of poetic imagination in the modern period that is also prevailing in the poetry of current romanticists. In contemporary poetry and literature, modes of imagination are being used namely as; prosaic imagination, pictorial imagination, fancy imagination, fancy-realistic imagination and poetic imagination. In the concluding remarks, the researchers can say that William Wordsworth as romantics urges that a union with nature is what frees the mind from the stir and thrust of its own dark emotions in this materialistic world. Poetical imagination in poetry remains as important as it ever was, although now it is comprehensive from the faculty by which we engage the world to the faculty by which we take our stand on why that engagement might matter in the materialistic world as well as the spiritual world of thought.

The Criticism of Artistic Aesthetics of Literary Texts

The subject of this study is a suggestion for the analysis of literary analysis. Its aim is the implication of the methodological methods based on the objective data in the literary criticism in order to avoid any biased criticism. In this combinative method, first by analyzing texts in structural linguistics, language foregrounding in texts is compiled in order to achieve objective, qualitative and convincing data for the analysis of the principles, and then with analysis and classification, investigation on highlighting language, the presence of the elements of artistic beauty like unity, harmony, proportion, conformity, symmetry, discipline and dynamism will be displayed and discovered in the text. In this way artistic beauty whose principle is common in all the arts is investigated as well in literary texts in order to display the other aspects of the beauty in the literary text

The Romantic Tenets in the Poetry of William

This research work focuses on “The Romantic Philosophy in the poetry of William Wordsworth. The Romantics focus on landscape because of its natural essence and its spiritual composition. The Romantics aim at fighting for the masses and educating the public on how nature can be better treated and appreciated. He present the beauty and enjoyment of life in which he find himself as imaginary and visionary. This work examined the theory of romanticism in romantic poetry using William Wordsworth. Wordsworth own most of his poetic resources and characters to nature as he strongly believe in the power of nature that brings all that is good to life.
