USAGE OF FACEBOOK FOR VARIOUS PURPOSES BY UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Facebook is using by students in great extent. They are using this social networking for various purposes. This study is based on usage of Facebook by the students for various purposes. This study is done on students of Central University of Jharkhand. Total 100 students were selected as sample for this study. Half students were selected from graduation level and other half students were selected from post-graduation level. 50 girl students and 50 boy students were selected for this research. University students use Facebook for chatting with friends and relatives. They use this website to make new friends and search old friends. They use this social networking website to get information and news. University students use this website to share their views on current issues. They use this website to get beauty tips also. But they don't use this website for group chatting, sharing videos, audios, funny videos. They don't use this website to comment on social and political issues
Motives and characteristics of Facebook use by students from a Romanian university

The increasing popularity of Facebook among university students is raising several research questions regarding the characteristics of use. In the context of modern school, the academic use and the usage related to the university context are of special interest. This paper aims at analyzing the motives for the use of Facebook and the characteristics of Facebook use by students from a Romanian university. The results show that the motives of using Facebook are mainly related to communicating with friends, to find out what happens in their university and to keep in touch with former high school colleagues. The results revealed significant differences between male and female students in terms of motives of using, network size, frequency and duration of use. Female students have more Facebook friends and spend more time on Facebook than male students. Moreover, significant differences exist between undergraduate and master students.
This paper explores the popularity and usage pattern of the Facebook among the University students. A self-administered questionnaire is used for collecting data from a sample of 384 students. The study reveals that 87.5% of the students have account on the Facebook and no gender differences found. Male and female on the average spend equal time on internet. Though female users spend more time on Facebook than their counterparts but male users have more Facebook friends. Facebook use, in general, adversely affecting the academic performance of students but this adverse effect is observed greater for male students. The social interaction with the existing friends is found the most common use of the Facebook among students.

Usage pattern of Facebook among the students of Dhaka University: a study

The usage pattern of Facebook by the students of information science and library management (ISLM) department at Dhaka University was studied. Questionnaires were distributed to 160 B.A. (Honours) students of all four years of ISLM Department out of which 139 questionnaires were found usable. The study found that a large number of students create Facebook account after they enter the university. The present study also revealed that personality characteristics, gender, educational level, geographical area and age influence ISLM students’ patterns of Facebook use and their perceptions about Facebook. The findings of this study also indicate that use of Facebook would be a supplementary tool in university education.
Social network sites usage habits of undergraduate students: case study of Facebook
The usage of social network sites is increasing daily. Facebook, which is a popular social network site, is one of the most commonly used social sharing sites today, having millions of users. The aim of this study was to investigate the Facebook usage of students and also to learn which Facebook tools the participants preferred. Eighty six volunteer undergraduate students participated in the present study. The data obtained by the survey was analyzed and commented upon using the SPSS program with the percentage, frequency, and mean statistical analysis techniques. As the results show, students spend a significant amount of their times using the Facebook. Participants use Messages, Chat, Friends, Links, News and Photos tools are the most commonly used tools of Facebook. In addition, Facebook provides individuals with a way of maintaining and strengthening social ties, which can be beneficial in both social and academic settings. Future studies should concentrate on integrating the Facebook into education and teaching, which is important in students’ everyday working lives.
The effect of using Facebook on university student’s
Facebook is only an electronic communication between human but unfortunately it has become an addiction for all. This paper examines the usage of Facebook among university students and its influence in their academic performance. The impact of Facebook can either be good or bad on university students and in their academic activities. Even though a closer look on the real impact of Facebook reveals that it leads to several problems in university students’ academic performances. Today Facebook is somehow destroying the future and academic carrier of university students. At the same time also intended to find the significance of use of Facebook by University students in their academic success with the help of a survey conducted to collect the data among more than 40 students of PSTU University
Undergraduate Students And Facebook Use: A Case Study Of Universities Of Peshawar
Social media, especially Facebook, have a pervasive influence in our lives, more so for students of school and university. Given that smart phones have also touched every aspect of our lives, the pervasiveness of Facebook and its use thus has implications for all aspects of students' lives, including social, academic, and familial. This study sought to explore the influence of Facebook on the academic and social environments of undergraduate students in selected universities of Peshawar. The study aimed at finding undergraduates' experiences and their perceptions about the use of Facebook influencing their academic and social environments. Using purposive sampling technique, 40 undergraduate students both male and femaleparticipated from various public and private universities of Peshawar. The participants of the study were students who had access to Internet and were using Facebook as subscribers. Instruments used for data collection included semistructured and in-depth interviews. A pilot study was conducted with five participants, which helped in refining interview questions. Thematic data analysis approach was used for analyzing the data. Major findings of the study showed that undergraduate students joined and used Facebook for various purposes. The research respondents identified a number of reasons for joining Facebook that included peer pressure; their motivation and encouragement persuaded them to join Facebook. Furthermore, most students started using Facebook at early teenage period. Keeping in view the implications of research findings, it is recommended that parents should keep proper check on their children while using Facebook. Both parents and teachers are required to train and educate children to use Facebook for productive and effective academic purposes.

The purposes of this study are to: (1) develop a valid and reliable scale for measuring university students' Facebook use purposes (FbUPs), and (2) investigate their FbUPs in terms of the variables of gender, Fb friend number, and use frequency as the indicators of Fb use profile. A total of 1098 students participated in the study from a university located in the north of Turkey. The study was conducted in two separate stages. First was the stage of scale development with 788 participants. Findings of this stage showed that The Scale-for Facebook Use Purposes (S-FbUPs) had three factors with 11-items, indicating good measurement features. In the second stage, data were collected from 310 participants to examine the effects of their Fb use profiles on the FbUPs. The findings of this stage showed that females used Fb more meaningfully than males, for educational and informational purposes. There were main significant effects of Fb friend number on the variables of "interpersonal interaction" and "self-promotion to others". Besides, the findings indicated that the students who accessed Fb most often had higher self-promotion tendency. Points for future research and practical implications are also discussed in this paper.
Facebook is largest social networking site in the world with having more than 1 billion users active. Facebook users create a profile page that shows their friends and networks information about them. The core purpose of our study was to investigate practice of social media usage among university students. Data is collected through the distribution of questionnaire among postgraduate students of GCUF. The two things that we measured are time consumption and building online relations on Facebook by the students. After completion of this survey we conclude that mostly there is male user of Facebook and they usually spend minimum 40 mints daily which lead to cut off them from real world and Facebook provide them a platform to make new relations.
