Introduction: Supernumerary teeth in the maxillary midline are common. Early detection of such teeth is important if pathological complications are to be avoided. Supernumerary teeth are the main cause of impaction of maxillary incisors. Impacted maxillary incisors can have a major impact leading to dentofacial malocclusion in an individual. Case report: In this reported case, the occlusal radiographic view of a 10-year-old boy revealed an impacted supernumerary tooth in the maxillary anterior region, which was interfering with the eruption of the permanent left central incisor. The impacted supernumerary tooth was surgically removed, and the impacted maxillary left central incisor was moved into its proper position with surgical exposure and orthodontic traction force, after which it showed excellent stability. Conclusion: Impaction of the maxillary permanent incisor is not a frequent case in pediatric dentistry, but its treatment is challenging because of the importance of these teeth in facial esthetics and developing child psychology.
Orthodontic management of impacted central incisor: A clinical challenge

Multiple treatment options are available for patients who have impacted incisor. This paper shows a case in which orthodontic as well as surgical considerations in 10-year-old female child were presented in the management of impacted central incisor. The orthodontic treatment plan included three steps-creation of space, exposure of crown, and forced eruption. A unique and innovative technique for orthodontic traction (0.017 × 0.025 TMA wire with palatal extension) was employed to move the maxillary incisor into arch, with minimum injury to neighboring soft tissue. After the successful management of impacted teeth, it is very important to periodically review the periodontal condition and stability.
Unraveling Impacted Maxillary Incisors: The Why, When, and How

Failure of eruption of maxillary incisors requires careful diagnosis and treatment planning. The cause of impaction may vary from physical obstruction in the path of eruption, tooth material arch length discrepancy to malformation of the tooth. General principles of management of the condition include removal of physical obstruction, creation of space, and surgical exposure with or without traction. The treatment of an unerupted tooth depends upon its age, position, etiology, and amount of space in the dental arch. This case series elaborates on three different cases of incisor impaction with different etiologies and varying ranges of complexity. Three-dimensional radiography was utilized in all cases to accurately visualize the impacted tooth and its relation to adjacent structures. All the cases required different approaches and were completed in varying time durations. Meticulous treatment planning resulted in well-aligned satisfactory functional and esthetic results.
Impacted upper central incisors - frequency and factors complicating the treatment protocol

Introduction: Eruption of central incisors occurs at a time when the mixed dentition starts to develop and their impaction is mostly a severe esthetic problem. Aim: Our aim was to assess the frequency of impaction of an upper central incisor and to analyse the factors which affect the successful outcome and the protocols for orthodontic treatment in cases of impacted upper central incisors. Materials and methods: In the present study, we used all medical records of 651 patients treated in our private practice over the last 3 years and also the medical records of 18 patients we diagnosed and treated for this problem over the last 8 years. Background and Objectives: The aim of this systematic review was to summarize currently available data of published articles that have investigated the post-treatment status of impacted maxillary central incisors (ICI) treated by the surgical-orthodontic approach. Materials and Methods: MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane Oral Health Group’s Trials Register, and ScienceDirect electronic databases were systematically searched with no publication date restrictions up to January 2021. Data assessing the status of ICI after combined surgical-orthodontic treatment and forced eruption duration were extracted, and the quality of the studies was evaluated. Results: In total, 7074 studies were identified, of which 42 articles were assessed for eligibility through full-text evaluation. The aim of this article is to describe a case of a young orthodontic patient in which an impacted maxillary canine was repositioned in the central incisor position. A severe resorption of the root of the central right maxillary incisor by ectopic eruption of the impacted right maxillary canine is described. The canine was repositioned in the incisor's position to avoid resorption of the roots of the adjacent teeth during the disinclusion. The central incisor was extracted and the canine was extruded by a closed eruption technique. When the canine eruption was complete, the tip, the torque and the morphology of the canine were modified in order to make it look like an incisor. The inclusion of both maxillary permanent central incisors is uncommon. This condition compromises face aesthetics, phonation and masticatory function. Therefore, early diagnosis is essential to avoid complications and failures. There are various reasons for inclusion, but supernumerary teeth are the leading cause.
