Factors associated to quality of life in active elderly Fatores associados à qualidade de vida em idosos ativos ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To analyze whether quality of life in active, healthy elderly individuals is influenced by functional status and sociodemographic characteristics, as well as psychological parameters. METHODS: Study conducted in a sample of 120 active elderly subjects recruited from two open universities of the third age in the cities of São Paulo and São José dos Campos (Southeastern Brazil) between May 2005 and April 2006. Quality of life was measured using the abbreviated Brazilian version of the World Health Organization Quality of Live (WHOQOL-bref) questionnaire. Sociodemographic, clinical and functional variables were measured through crossculturally validated assessments by the Mini Mental State Examination, Geriatric Depression Scale, Functional Reach, One-Leg Balance Test, Timed Up and Go Test, Six-Minute Walk Test, Human Activity Profi le and a complementary questionnaire. Simple descriptive analyses, Pearson's correlation coeffi cient, Student's t-test for non-related samples, analyses of variance, linear regression analyses and variance infl ation factor were performed. The signifi cance level for all statistical tests was set at 0.05. RESULTS: Linear regression analysis showed an independent correlation without colinearity between depressive symptoms measured by the Geriatric Depression Scale and four domains of the WHOQOL-bref. Not having a conjugal life implied greater perception in the social domain; developing leisure activities and having an income over fi ve minimum wages implied greater perception in the environment domain. CONCLUSIONS: Functional status had no infl uence on the Quality of Life variable in the analysis models in active elderly. In contrast, psychological factors, as assessed by the Geriatric Depression Scale, and sociodemographic characteristics, such as marital status, income and leisure activities, had an impact on quality of life. DESCRIPTORS: Aged. Quality of Life. Life Style. Health Status. Socioeconomic Factors.

"Well-being as related to Personality, Social-Support And Values in Old age." Research Scholar

Self-Perceived Health, Physical State and Motor and Body Competences in Spanish Elderly People

Ageing International, 2018

In the last few years it has become evident how the populations of the elderly in developed countries are increasing faster and faster, and are becoming associated with a determined quality of life. This demographic change is a very interesting research topic since this aging is related to quality of life. The current study is about the existing relationship between health, physical state and motor and body competences in people of over 65 years of age living in Spain; and is based on self-awareness. The total sample was made up of 933 people (57.72% women and 42.28% men). This study is based on a regular survey carried out with different respondents. The following aspects were considered in the calculation of the sample: the population was finite; so the most unfavorable case was taken in the population variance where "P" and "Q" are equal accounting for 50% each, the confidence interval was 95.5% and the margin of error ± 3.27%. The results show that health is directly related to physical and motor competences. So, by self-evaluating their health and physical state in positive terms, the subjects feel like moving more and more, and they have a better conception of themselves; so raising their self-esteem improves their quality of life.

Assessment of the Quality of Life, Health, and Social Wellness in Upper Elementary School Students: Cross-Cultural and Gender Specificity

Quality of life, from the contemporary aspect of studying, has an important place in the practice of health care and scientific-research work. He has long been discussed within the framework of social sciences, by sociologists. That quality of life mostly associated with the economic status of individuals and feelings concerning this situation. The quality of life by sociologists mainly means a set of parameters which include the physical and emotional status, vitality, functionality, personal and spiritual fulfillment, the adequacy of housing and nutrition, employment, social integration, social environment and positive support of the social environment (Dictionary of Sociology, 2007:281). In line with this approach, health is only one component of the broader concept. With the development of society are being modified the indicators of quality of life, so that in addition to economic situation are evaluate psychic values as well (satisfaction, personal development) and community affiliation. The subjective indicators of the quality of life have connection with a feeling, that is, emotional well-being and life satisfaction, while the real situation is assessed with economic indicators. Large interest within medicine, for the quality of life, is hardened by the development of the science of health and health care, from the moment when the WHO, defined health as "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not simply the absence of disease and disability", according to (Kvrgić, S., 2001:10).

Questionário Fatorial Cattell de Personalidade (QFCP): Construção e Estudo Preliminar

This study was aimed at: (a) developing an instrument for personality assessment according to Cattell's model, in which the 16PF is based on; and (b) carrying out an empirical analysis of the internal structure of the instrument. Three hundred and forty seven people, mostly female (67.4%), attending higher education (62.5%) and aged between 16 and 66 (M = 25.69; SD = 8.90) participated in the study. One hundred and twenty items were created and an exploratory factor analysis of the main factors was carried out. Then, a parallel analysis, an exploratory full information factor analysis with categorical variables and an internal consistency analysis were performed. The results suggest that the instrument is composed of 12 factors of reasonable internal consistency rates. The model developed by Cattell helped to understand the structural organization found for the instrument, since there is coherency, especially in relation to more general terms (global factors).

The number of older persons is increasing throughout the world and the consequences of ageing population; specifically in economics of aging was deserved to be being attention. The main issue in economics of aging is the way in indentifying the economically vulnerable group and how the allocate government's limited resources to the needed group. However, various methods, either using objective approach (income, consumption, net flow, net worth) or subjective approach (self-rated income adequacy, perceived financial satisfaction) were employed to identify the vulnerable group.
