Introduction: “Occupational Stress” is an unavoidable phenomenon in human life in today's world of rapid industrialization and increasing urbanization. It is a psychophysical condition which affects an individual's productivity, effectiveness, personal health and quality of work. Teacher stress is a specific type of occupational stress. Teaching profession can be identified as a stressful occupation in this modern challenging world which can adversely affect the health of the teachers which in turn affects the students and the learning environment. In India, the average strength of class is about 60-70 students. This might make teachers feel stress. As they have to cater the needs of each & every child, fulfilling the learning needs of 70 students simultaneously can be a daunting task for a teacher. Objective: In this paper, attempts have been made to study the level of stress among male and female teachers working in government, semi-government and private schools. Methodology: Three government, semi-government and private schools were selected to draw the sample randomly. Approximately 10 school teachers were selected from every school using stratified random sampling, this makes a total of 90 school teachers. Data was collected through Teacher Stress Scale by Dr. Tinku De. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test were done using SPSS version 20.0. Results: Findings revealed that the highest number of male teachers is in average stress level whereas maximum female teachers were under above average level of stress. In comparison to government school teachers; semi government and private school teachers were under more stress. Thus, it can be concluded that male and female teachers working in government, semi government and private schools lies under almost the similar level of stress. To help teachers to manage stress, authorities and policy makers should facilitate supportive and collaborative culture; should provide training for stress and time management, specific training to manage the behaviours of disruptive people; should provide leisure facilities to the faculty and should encourage involvement of faculty in decision-making. Background: Apart from teaching, school teachers are involved in much of the school related work which may eventually affect their psychological well being. It is important to know the psychological impacts of such work related stress among school teachers. Objectives: To find out the prevalence of variables of the occupation stress among high school teachers using scale; To find out association between the selected personal variables with different component of occupational stress as defined in The School Teachers Job Stressor Scale-STJSS; Methods: STJSS was used as a tool for data collection. Background: Changing norms have overburdened the educators. Our study aims to assess the levels of occupational stress among higher secondary school teachers and demographic, academic characteristics and relevant factors influencing it. Methodology: Cross sectional study was conducted in Thalassery block of Kannur district, Kerala. The block comprised of 38 schools with 516 teachers. Overall, 484 teachers participated in the study. Modified 'Manual for teacher's occupational stress scale' questionnaire was used. Results were analyzed using Chi square test, 't' test and one way ANOVA. Results: Males were 155 (32%) and females were 329 (68%). The mean age was 40.6 years. Four-fifth (81%) were from government and one-fifth (19%) were from private schools. Majority, 268 (55%), of teachers were found to have mild occupational stress. While, 171 (35%) had moderate stress and 45 (9%) had severe occupational stress. Stress was linked to vast syllabus, time constraint, outside interference, students' behavior, poor infrastructure and favoritism from authorities. Increased teaching experience and rising position in school were significantly associated with stress. Conclusion: All higher secondary school teachers in Thalaserry block of Kannur, Kerala felt occupational stress. Majority (55%) had mild stress, 35% had endured moderate and 9% suffered severe stress.

Teachers play a vital role in the society by helping students acquire knowledge and moral values. The objectives of our study were to measure the occupational stress and factors associated with them among school teachers. A cross sectional study was conducted among 102 teachers using eight item, pretested, semi-structured, face-validated questionnaire to assess the factors contributing to occupational stress and scored on a scale of 8-16 with a higher score depicting lower stress. In this study, 35(34.3%) teachers were in the age group of 22-31 years, 72(70.6%) were males, 73(59.8%) were working for more than 5 years, 68(66.7%) were permanent employees, little less than half 42(41.2%) had completed Post-Graduation. The mean occupational stress was 10.8 + 0.96. Factors like male gender, number of classes per day, work distribution, work pressure, strength of the class, duration of travel to work place and job satisfaction had significant impact on work related stress.
FACTORS CAUSING OCCUPATIONAL STRESS AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS OF AMRITSAR DISTRICT

The study attempts to investigate the various factors causing occupational stress experienced by senior secondary school teachers. A sample of 100 teachers (50 science teachers and 50 physical education teachers) was randomly selected. They were administered a comprehensive questionnaire which measures various factors of stress. Factor analyses were used to identify underlying factors causing stress. The analysis showed that non cooperation from the colleagues, hastiness to finish the work, unable to perform duty smoothly, unclear instructions and insufficient facilities, unclear expectations of higher authority and having more work load in less time were the significant factors causing occupational stress among the teachers. The monotonous nature of work, ignorance of higher authority and violation of administrative processes and policies were factors also contributing towards occupational stress among teachers.

This study was designed to investigate the influence of respondent’s age towards Occupational stress. This paper forms part of a research study conducted with teachers of Higher Secondary Schools in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, India. From the population of 30 schools located within the town limit and 325 Higher Secondary School teachers, samples were chosen statistically. Introduction Interest in the area of occupational stress among teachers increased in 1970’s since then considerable research has been conducted in many countries. It is an important area of research for educationists and researchers. A number of surveys has pointed to the comparatively stressful nature of teaching. According to a survey conducted by health and safety executive report (2002), which explores levels and occupational stress among various occupational groups, reveals that teaching profession, was on top of the stress prone occupation, in UK 41.5% of teachers reporting themselves as ‘highly stressed’. Study of Occupational Stress Between Government School Teachers and Private School Teachers

In the present time, every human being has a different amount of stress, some have personal, and some have occupational. The present study aimed to discover the difference between occupational stress of government school teachers and private school teachers and find out the level of occupational stress in government school teachers and private school teachers. For study the cross-sectional method was used, forty female school teachers were selected randomly from various inter colleges of Bareilly city. The number of government school teachers and private school teachers kept the same. For measurement of occupational stress, the Hindi version of the occupational stress index by Srivastava and Singh (1984) was administered to all forty teachers. After the analysis, the result showed a moderate level of occupational stress in both groups and no significant difference in occupational stress between government school teachers and private school teachers. Thus, the study found the same level of occupational stress in government school teachers and private school teachers.
The aim of the study is to determine the Occupational Stress level of Government and Aided Higher Secondary School Teachers living in different socio-cultural and economic situations. The scale used in the study has been developed by researches. 185 Aided school teachers and 120 Government teachers have participated in the present study. At the end of the study it was seen that Aided school teachers have more occupational stress levels than Government school teachers. There is a meaningful difference in the stress level points of Government and Aided Higher Secondary Teachers. Policy makers are advised to analyse the teacher training and assessment system with the assumption that personal and social characteristics and working conditions may have an effect on teacher occupational stress. Results also showed that teachers who reported greater stress were less satisfied with teaching, reported greater frequency of absences and a greater number of total days absent, were more likely to leave teaching (career intention), and less likely to take up a teaching career again (career commitment).Implications for further research are also discussed.
A STUDY OF OCCUPATIONAL STRESS OF PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS
In the present study an attempt was made to compare teachers' occopational stress of primary government and private school teachers of Tehsil Laksar, District-Haridwar. A sample of 100 teachers was selected, 50 each from government and private schools. Teachers' Occupational Stress Scale constructed and standardized by Dr. Sajid Jamal and Dr. Abdul Raheem was administered. Findings revealed that in general, the primary school teachers have found to be highly stressed. Moreover, the private primary school teachers have also found to be highly stressed in comparison to their government primary school teacher counterparts.
