The aim of this work is to advance and raise some awareness through case studies and research of the work done at the University Institute of Studies on Migrations (Instituto Universitario de Estudios sobre Migraciones - IUEM) of Comillas Pontifical University, of which I am a research associate. First, I will discuss the work done by the first research institute on migrations in Spain: The IUEM. Second, I will show two methods of social investigation: qualitative and quantitative analysis. Third, I will present some examples of projects and case studies conducted by the IUEM which bridge the reality of migration between Africa and Europe. Fourth, I will explain some important elements to develop a genuine Ignatian apostolic leadership in our social work. Fifth, I will show as example some new projects and initiatives of networking from the IUEM at state, continental and global level. Finally, I will present some conclusive notes and some research proposals

Migration from Africa to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea has become a significant global issue, characterized by perilous journeys, human tragedies, and complex socio-political dynamics. This research proposal explores the root causes, experiences, and consequences of African migration across the Mediterranean. This research seeks to provide a comprehensive understanding of this phenomenon through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing sociology, political science, and anthropology. By examining the motivations, challenges, and impacts on both migrants and host societies, this research aims to intervene and address the underlying factors driving migration while promoting humane and sustainable solutions. This research proposal aims to explore the complex migration issues in Africa, specifically focusing on the perilous journey of Africans crossing the Mediterranean Sea. The study will examine the socioeconomic , political, and environmental factors driving migration, the experiences of migrants, and the broader implications of these movements. Through a mixed-methods approach, this research seeks to contribute to the understanding of African migration and provide policy recommendations for managing migration flows effectively.
Migration and International Development

It aims at contributing to the debate on the relation between migration and international development, a pertinent and important topic. It draws on elements from the international and European debate and applies them to geopolitical contexts that are relevant for Europe and Italy. It discusses current population and migration dynamics and future forecasts, and outlines options for policy and development cooperation .
