This system can perform varied functions to be performed at home. This allows accessibility over internet from any corner in the world. The main focus of this project is to minimize the usage of electricity and reduce human efforts.The Home Automation system (HAS) incorporates various aspects of technologies such as wireless networking, communication over cloud.The data to be analyzed is stored onto the cloud. The user can access multiple appliances over the internet as per their convenience. This is a low cost system. This system can control multiple devices

Internet-of-Things (IoT) being the forked process of internet services and an emerging trend in technology has attracted a rapid attention in the scope of home automation. IoT forms an integral part for smart operation of home, its security and integrity controlled by human/autonomous interfaces. Each sub domain of IoT based home automation itself reflects a potentially vulnerable research area. It is in this interest that this present communication divides the entire zone of IoT based home automation research into specific interconnected research zones based on certain attributes. Each zone forms a node in the Taxonomy Tree which has been generated using Cosine Similarity Function. The prime objective of this study is to provide prospective researchers with node wise first hand collection of published research and relevant statistics, thereby minimizing effective literature survey duration.

Internet of Things for Home Automation

This paper presents an approach for smart home automation using Internet of Things (IoT ) integration with computer vision, web services and cross-platform mobile services. This project aims to increase home security using the aforementioned approach. The approach focuses on: (1) sending data and receiving instructions by sensors, cameras and servo motors, to and from the end user, through embedding intelligence to the mentioned gadgets using Raspberry Pi tiny computer; (2) assisting interaction of end users and home devices through cross-platform mobile application developed using Ionic Framework; (3) connecting the two client sides, the end user and devices, through publish/subscribe model using PubNub Data Stream Network; (4) data representation and exchange efficiently using JSON data format. Moreover, four use cases were implemented to demonstrate this approach efficiency.

Accepted Manuscript A review of Internet of Things for smart home: Challenges and solutions

Although Internet of Things (IoT) brings significant advantages over traditional communication technologies for smart grid and smart home applications, these implementations are still very rare. Relying on a comprehensive literature review, this paper aims to contribute towards narrowing the gap between the existing state-of-the-art smart home applications and the prospect of their integration into an IoT enabled environment. We propose a holistic framework which incorporates different components from IoT architectures/frameworks proposed in the literature, in order to efficiently integrate smart home objects in a cloud-centric IoT based solution. We identify a smart home management model for the proposed framework and the main tasks that should be performed at each level. We additionally discuss practical design challenges with emphasis on data processing, as well as smart home communication protocols and their interoperability. We believe that the holistic framework ascertained in this paper can be used as a solid base for the future developers of Internet of Things based smart home solutions.

Towards the Development of an Efficient and Cost Effective Intelligent Home System Based on the Internet of Things

Internet of Things (IoT) is an emerging technology which is covering everyday things from industrial machinery to consumer goods in order to exchange information and complete tasks while involved in other work. IoT based smart home automation system is a system that uses PCs, mobile phones or remote devices to control basic operations for home automatically from anyplace around the world using internet. The proposed intelligent home automation system differs from existing systems as it allows the user to operate the system from anywhere around the world by using internet connection along with intelligent nodes that can take decisions according to the environmental conditions. We implemented a home automation system using sensor nodes that are directly connected to Arduino microcontrollers. Microcontroller is programmed so that it can perform some basic operations on the basis of sensors data. e.g. fan is controlled on basis of temperature value and light is controlled on the basis of occurrence of motion in the room etc. Furthermore Arduino board is connected to the internet using Wi-Fi module. An extra feature this system provides is to monitor power consumption of different home appliances. The designed system provides the user remote control of numerous appliances locally as well as outside the home. This designed system is expandable, allowing multiple devices to be controlled. The objective of the proposed system is to provide a low cost and efficient solution for home automation system by using IoT. Results show that the proposed system is able to handle all controlling and monitoring of home.
