The technology acceptance model revisited: empirical evidence from the tourism industry in Pakistan
Journal of Tourism Futures, 2021
PurposeThis paper aims to analyze the adoption of social media platforms by tourists in Pakistan. Based on an adaptation of the technology acceptance model (TAM), this study assesses the factors that lead users to adopt these platforms.Design/methodology/approachA survey was administered to a convenience sample of 399 travelers who use social media in Pakistan. A Confirmatory factor analysis was conducted using AMOS to evaluate convergent and discriminant validity as well as composite reliability. Structural equation modeling was applied to examine the causal relationship among all proposed constructs.FindingsThe findings reveal that the perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEoU) of a social media platform positively impact the behavioral intention of its users. The proposed constructs of compatibility, enjoyment, user expertise and e-trust all demonstrated their crucial roles in the adoption of a social media platform for tourism-related activities by enhancing the ...
Task-Technology Fit and Technology Acceptance Models Applicability to e-Tourism
The Internet as an information and business tool has revolutionized the way modern business is being conducted. In tourism, it has led to the emergence of the fast growing and revenuespinning tourism e-commerce. The patronage of the consumer tourism e-commerce applications is confronted with challenges which include lack of full understanding of why and what motivate the user to use the applications. This is in the backdrop of the reduction in the expected number of online shoppers. The TAM and TTF have been used over the decades to predicts and explain the user acceptance and utilization of information technology. While the two different models have been shown repeatedly to offer significant explanatory power, the combination of both has also been shown to be superior to the individual models. However, there apparently does not exist studies that use the combined models to study e-tourism.
With recent developments in mobile technologies, tourism mobile payment(m-payment) is beginning to offer interesting and beneficial new services. This research aimed to identify the factors determining tourists' acceptance of tourism m-payment. Based on literature relating to the TAM theory, the conceptual model is developed and tested in this research. This research extends the applicability of the TAM in tourism m-payment context, by adding the system characteristics' constructs and tourism characteristics' constructs to the model. Data collected from 421 tourists in China were tested against the extended TAM, using the structural equation modeling approach. The empirical results show especially strong support for the effects of perceived security, perceived compatibility, destination m-payment knowledge, and tourist susceptibility to interpersonal influence. The findings provide a foundation for an enhanced theory on tourism m-payment adoption and for the practical development of tourism m-payment service.
A TAM-Based Model of Technological Factors Affecting Use of E-Tourism
2021
In tourism, ICT provides new channels anywhere/anytime for tourism services that impacted how customers access and consume those services, hence the emergence of the concept of e-tourism. Internet can be used to attract customers, communicate with them, customize their required services, access international markets, and provide all types of touristic information through e-tourism platforms. The salient feature of this research is to identify the key technological factors that influence customers' acceptance and use of the services provided through e-tourism platforms. Other behavioral aspects related to the use of these services are treated as exogenous factors. The study constructed an e-tourism technology acceptance model (ETAM) concentrating only on technology-related factors. To assist in understanding how users will reflect in these four technological factors affecting the use of e-services, the model recognizes two moderating influential factors: trust and attitude. The m...
Analysis of the factors that affecting Intention to use Tourism Online Booking
Tourism has been closely connected with the advancement of Information and Communication Technology for over 30 years. In 2014, the travel industry is still the king in the e-commerce industry of Indonesia. But there are some things that hinder Indonesian people using e-commerce. Previous research has subjectively contributed to the design and marketing of the online tourism industry, but no one has done an evaluation directly through user perspective assessment. The absence of a theoretical reference model causes significant ambiguity regarding how to create e-travel sites and evaluates them in practice. In this study, it is proposed and validate an evaluation model of the use of e-commerce in tourism derived from previous research theories linked to the risk theory of the Davis's Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The results obtained from this research indicate that the interest of users of travel booking applications online is influenced by several factors, namely: technology, environment, behavior, and e-lifestyle. The purpose of this research is to understand which factors influence the intention of using tourism booking applications online.
Acceptance and use of ICT in tourism: the modified UTAUT model
Journal of Tourism Futures
PurposeThis study aims to investigate the technology usage behaviour of the tourists in line with the modified unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) model.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from a survey of 265 tourists using the random sampling technique. Partial least squares-based structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique was used to analyze the data.FindingsThe findings revealed that performance expectancy, hedonic motivation and habit significantly influence the behavioural intention of tourists to use information and communication technology (ICT), while effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions do not have a significant influence. However, actual ICT usage behaviour largely depends on the behavioural intention of the tourists, and their habits, while the facilitating conditions do not have any influence in this case.Practical implicationsThe findings uncover the core factors influencing tourists' actual ICT u...

This article considered the use of technological tools by tourism trade exhibition visitors from a marketing perspective. Research purpose: The main aim of this article was to investigate the adoption and use of technology by tourism providers within the context of business events and exhibitions. Motivation for the study: To inform the tourism business practitioners about the efficient and appropriate uses of technological platforms in connecting and interacting with potential stakeholders at tourism events or exhibitions. Research design, approach and method: A conceptual model was suggested and four hypotheses were advanced and empirically tested for the prediction of a business tourist's intention to accept technology (BTIAT) model. The target population was professional exhibition visitors-consisting of six groups: hunters, sport shooters, gun collectors, game farmers, professional hunters and anglers-who attended HuntEx 2015 (sample size = 403). A quantitative, inductive research approach was adapted, while general linear modelling (GLM) was applied to analyse the data. Main findings: The study's findings indicate that business tourists' intention to use online technology was explained when the interaction between business tourists' perceived usefulness of online technology and business tourists' perceived ease of use of online technology are entered into the equation. Practical/managerial implications: The providers of business tourism services (owners and managers) should consider the development of mobile applications to enhance the overall experience of business tourists when attending an event or exhibition, on condition that the application is relevant to the event and easy to use. Contribution/value-add: The study suggested the adequate adoption and efficient uses of mobile applications by business tourism providers as a tool in improving and rendering more attractive the tourists' experience.
Consumers' acceptance of information and communications technology in tourism: A review
The impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in tourism (e-tourism) has altered the ways tourism services are accessed and consumed. Ubiquitous and highly innovative ICTs provide different channels for consumers to use tourism services; thus, studies on e-tourism are numerous and fragmented. Different factors account for how consumers embrace these channels. The purpose of this study is to review studies on con-sumers' acceptance or adoption of e-tourism in order to group the studies, synthesize the theories, models and frameworks used and identify the antecedents influencing con-sumers' e-tourism acceptance and usage. A total of 71 studies from 2005 to 2016 (inclusive) from both tourism-based and non-tourism-based journals were selected, synthesized, and included. Based on their contexts, similarity and relevance, the 71 studies were segregated into three distinct groups. This study found that research among the groups is uneven. Implications and research directions are suggested.
E-Travel Model: An Emprical Study of Technology Acceptance Model and Self Efficacy
2014
The purpose of today business is not only the national business, but also the international business through e-business concept in particular e-travel contexts. E-travel is a tourism activity that done automatically through electronic technology and can be accessed from anywhere via its websites. The current paper presents to develop the conceptual framework of e-travel adoption model. Self-efficacy, ease of use and usefulness are identified as influencing factors of e-travel model. In this study, e-travel users as the research object. Most of research that has studied about e-travel shows that it gets influence from customer perspective. This theoretical framework explains how self-efficacy, ease of use and usefulness, that are the part of customer perspectives, affect the actual use of travel website. The finding of this theoretical framework is self-efficacy, ease of use and usefulness give positive impact to actual use. The afterward research would exanimated empirically using a survey method which employing PLS as a SEM software of analysis technique.
Empirical study of E-Travel Adoption among Small Enterprises in Developing Country
The International Technology Management Review, 2015
The objective of this paper is to test the success factor of e-travel model among small travel enterprises (STEs) in Indonesia. The data was collected by e-survey via My3q free online survey. Respondents were 145-users of travel websites chosen employing purposive sampling technique. Research variables measured were factors of Enjoyment, Usefulness, Ease of use, Self Efficacy, Use, Satisfaction, Trust and Loyalty. These variables were tested in 11 hypothesis. The structural equation modelling (SEM) using SmartPLS 2.0 in data analysis was worked. The result of this study illustrated that nine of eleven hypothesis have contribution significantly and the rest conversely. However, perceive of usefulness did not influence to e-travel adoption and trust to loyalty during browsing travel websites. Finally, examining the success model of e-travel adoption in different provinces and travel websites is as the suggestion of further research.
