The emerging approaches in the study of cognition: A review

روانشناسی و روانپزشکی شناخت, 2021

Introduction: In recent decades, different views among cognitive researchers on how cognition is formed in animals, especially humans have been emerged. Cognition and cognitive processes involve many mental processes such as attention, knowledge formation, memory, judgment and evaluation, reasoning and calculation, problem solving and decision making, perception and language production. Aim: Investigation and comparison of emerging approaches in the study of cognition. Method: Review of literature. Results: New approaches to cognition such as the concepts of embodied and embedded cognition, grounded cognition, enactive cognition, and situated cognition have been compared with each other and with computational cognition as well. The findings show that the boundary between the types of new approaches in the study of cognition is so narrow that they are sometimes not even easily distinguishable from each other. Furthermore, all emerging approaches in the study of cognition are very different from the computational approach in the study of cognition. Conclusion: The new approach to cognitive science describes cognition with a variety of attributes, most of which indicate that the new approach in the cognitive science has moved away from a purely amodal, computational approach and has opened the door to experience and the environment.

Knowledge Commercialization Based on the Role of Managerial Ambiguity in Higher Education

2021

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of knowledge commercialization in higher education based on managerial ambiguity. Applied research method was used in terms of purpose with a qualitative approach. Research data was collected using inductive content analysis of knowledge commercialization frameworks and holding two Delphi panel of knowledge commercialization experts based on dual ambiguity. The statistical population included 28 university experts, specialists and personnel working at incubation centers of Mazandaran Province. In this section, purposive sampling method was used considering the theoretical saturation law. Data was collected through a semi-structured questionnaire. The content validity of this questionnaire was confirmed with the help of professors of expert groups. Findings showed that the dimensions of knowledge commercialization based on managerial dual competence had 4 components including managerial support, managerial empowerment measures, ma...

A Scientometric Study of the Journal of Applied Research of Sport Management

Caspian Journal of Scientometrics, 2020

Background and aim: Today, one of the most important methods of scientific evaluation is scientometric studies. The results of these studies can be seen as a roadmap for research planners and policymakers. The aim of this study was to evaluate the scientometrics of the Journal of Applied Research of Sport Management (JARSM). Material and methods: In this applied and scientometric study, all articles of the JARSM from 2012 to 2018 were analyzed. The data were collected through the journal's website and analyzed using Excel and NodeXL. Findings: Of the 279 articles published in the JARSM, 93% were multi-author publications and more than 31% were published in collaboration with scholars from Payame Noor University. This indicates the great interest of this journal in group collaboration as well as the publication of articles affiliated to their own university. Moreover, the thematic areas of sport management, organizational behavior and sport marketing have received more attention. Tehran and West Azerbaijan Provinces had the highest number of papers in JARSM. In addition, the journal has received the most impact from the Journal of Sport Management and Development, and has made the most scientific impact on the Journal of Sport Management. Conclusion: Overall, the results show that the publication trend in the JARSM is sinusoidal, and its citation rate has been accompanied by a downward trend after a period of an upward one.

This study aimed to examine the effect of mindfulness-based metacognitive skills training on depression, anxiety, stress, and sense of well-being in patients with SLE. Materials and methods: This randomized clinical trial with pre-test/post-test design was carried out in 60 patients with SLE attending Babol Shahid Beheshti Nephrology Clinic, 2018. They were randomly divided into two groups (n=30 per group). The experimental group received weekly sessions of mindfulness-based metacognitive skills training (1 hr/ 8 weeks), while the control group did not receive any intervention. The patients’ socio-demographic information was recorded and Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWB) were administered. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods including generalized estimator ...

The Effect of Teaching with a Myth Buster Scientific Method on the Critical and Analytical Thinking of Students: The Moderating Role of Social Achievement Goals

2020

Background and Purpose: Development of critical and analytical thinking is an important research goal and researches have been always concerned with searching for new methods of critical and analytical thinking and testing them for finding the most efficient methods. Therefore, present research aimed to investigate the effect of teaching with a myth busting method on the critical and analytical thinking of students with the moderating role of social achievement goals. Method: This study was a quasi-experimental research with pretest-posttest control group design. The study sample included 65 female students studying at the 8 th grade of middle school in Tehran in the academic year 2016-2017, who were selected by multi-stage cluster sampling method and then randomly assigned to either the experimental or the control group. Social Motivational Orientations Scale (Allen, 2003) and Critical Thinking Test (Cornell, 1985) were used for pretest. The experimental group received 10 sessions of thinking and life style with scientific myth buster method. Also, students with higher and lower social achievement goal orientation were separated from each other by using Social Goal Questionnaire. Finally, the groups underwent the posttest. Data were analyzed by factorial analysis of covariance. Results: Data analysis (by using social goals as the moderator) showed that teaching with myth buster scientific method was significantly effective in improving the critical thinking of students (F=36.01, P<0.001). Conclusion: The benefits of the myth buster scientific method combined with the identification of social achievement goals can approve its use as an appropriate educational method to improve critical thinking skills. Students with higher social goals have higher participation in class activities, which in turn leads to their higher critical thinking. This myth buster scientific method can improve critical thinking skills.
