The paper examines the production of views of Sicilian cities in the early modern age, the expression of a perfect balance between figurative elements and technical qualities. The paper analyses historical events and their protagonists, which gave impetus to a chorographic production providing a historical-artistic-cultural framework that allows a reconstruction of the conditions and mechanisms that governed the production of the engraved, drawn, and painted Sicilian views.

Ludwig Hoffmann’s 1910 Plan for Athens may be considered as a case study from a purely historical point of view, and a source of inspiration for today’s urban design practice. It is the only town plan developed by Ludwig Hoffmann’s, who was Berliner Stadtbaurat from 1896 to 1924, before the appointment of Martin Wagner, and, among the manifold Early 20th century plans for Athens, it is the only that shows a realistic approach. From the theoretical point of view, it may be read as one of the most complete practical implementations of the town planning ideals supported by , and Walter Curt Behrendt.

The theatre has been for both Greek and Romans an essential element of a city and, at the same time, of being a citizen.As many researches are demonstrating these days, studying the theatres and their architectural and morphological features, as well as analysing their position and functions, can provide important data and clues about how communities saw themselves, which cultural network they were part of or shared characteristics with, to which extent they influenced or were influenced by other cultures.Therefore, given their ideological role, theatrical buildings seemed a valid hermeneutical instrument to understand the architectural culture of this territory as well as the political and social evolution of the communities which inhabited it.
