This literature review presents the History, Technology, and Applications of Natural Dialog Systems or simply chatbots. It aims to organize critical information that is a necessary background for further research activity in the field of chatbots. More specifically, while giving the historical evolution, from the generative idea to the present day, we point out possible weaknesses of each stage. After we present a complete categorization system, we analyze the two essential implementation technologies, namely, the pattern matching approach and machine learning. Moreover, we compose a general architectural design that gathers critical details, and we highlight crucial issues to take into account before system design. Furthermore, we present chatbots applications and industrial use cases while we point out the risks of using chatbots and suggest ways to mitigate them. Finally, we conclude by stating our view regarding the direction of technology so that chatbots will become really smart.

In addition to AI and ML, we see the rise of Humanoid Robotics that has potential to act like, look like, talk like and reason like human, and eventually becoming an essential part of an organizational business infrastructure worldwide [1]. Some experts compare level of intelligence of new Humanoid Robot called Sophia to that of a one month old new born baby that is at the very beginning of discovering the world around and is beginning to observe and to learn to communicate with his or her parents. Yet, very young and tiny, babies have a Natural Intelligence and Human Reasoning that may be compared to a computational capacity of most performant Supercomputer in the world today. Many experts suggest that there are fundamental differences between the AI and Natural Intelligence (NI) and that future evolution of AI driven Software Agents and Humanoid Robotics may have strong impact on the future Industry 5.0 and 6.0, Business to Business (B2B) and Mobile Commerce (mC). Given recent COVID relates crisis, applications of AI in business, industry, government, academia and other sectors have become ubiquitous showing more and more examples of Smart Software Agents application. The next section, presents examples of the AI driven applications including chatbots and ChatGPT, and discus what, how and where they are.

Chatbot a computer application designed to imitate conversation with human users, especially over the internet. Chatbots, or conversational interfaces as they are also known, present a new way for individuals to interact with computer systems. Traditionally, to get a question answered by a software program involved using a search engine, or filling out a form. A chatbot allows a user to simply ask questions in the same manner that they would address a human. Example, resolving customer queries: Answering questions is helpful but a chatbot is not that useful if it cannot complete transactions. For example, if customers frequently call to check the delivery time of their package, it makes sense to let the chatbot handle those questions, answering frequently asked questions, and recommending new offers: Recommending the right products to the customer based on her verbal feedback. The most well known chatbots currently are voice chatbots: Alexa and Siri. However, chatbots are currently being adopted at a high rate on computer chat platforms.

The core of chatbots analyses a customer’s data using the artificial intelligence which integrates the response with them. Different tasks can be replaced with AI-powered bots as they are much more powerful—and are capable of performing multiple tasks at once. Machine Learning techniques are basically used in the process of understanding the input that we get from the user and replying to the user. Natural language processing allows a bot to have a conversation as naturally as possible. The ideal interaction between user and chatbot is a balanced mix of Innovative technology and human Intervention.

Chatbot has become more popular in business group in the present as it can reduce customers service costs and handles multiple users at a time. But it is yet to accomplish tasks that needs to make chatbots as efficient as possible. In this project, we aim to design a chatbot that provides a genuine and accurate answer for queries using Artificial Intelligence Markup Lanugages (AIML) and with the present of python platform.

To simulate informal chat communication, the chatbot structure combines a language model and computational algorithms covering enormous natural language processing techniques. This paper discusses other applications that may be useful for chatbots, such as a computer conversation system, virtual agent, dialogue system, retrieval of information , industry, telecommunications, banking, health, customer call centers, and e-commerce. It also offers an overview of cloud-based chatbots technology along with the programming of chatbots and programming problems in the chatbot's present and future periods.
