Place and people: landscape as a basis of development and preservation of cultural identity

Processes of globalization and urbanization are the main factors of changes in our environment and social foundations. Culture, traditions, customs, mythology are tightly bonded with the geographical environment and the land itself, which also defined the way of economic activity and the lifestyle of inhabitants. Identity may become apparent through landscape in two principal ways. On the one hand, landscape can represent and identify the certain culture by means of its visual image. On the other hand, the manifestation of deep links of landscape and its inhabitants by means of reviling emotional, visual and semantic connections of man to a land, affords to strengthen people' s feeling of belonging, rooting and thus safety, which is exceptionally essential in our era of non-stable uncertain modernity.

A Sense of Place within the Landscape in Cultural Settings

This paper presents an on-going progress of a study on landscape elements in the context of culture. The study has sought to ure and norms. Eventually, new developments do not seem to recognize and respect the importance of cultural aspects resulting disoriented buildings. Reviewed of the literature of sense of the place was conducted to rediscover the fundamental notions of place, perception and experience. Therefore, the background review to structure the work concluded places that add value contribute to establish the urban setting and place context.

UNDERSTANDING THE CONCEPT OF ?SENSE OF PLACE?WITHIN CULTURAL LANDSCAPE SETTING.

Concern on a sense of place in cultural landscape setting of the historic city has been a global perennial issue. Literature search shows that there have been enormous effort to sustain the idea of sense of place or local wisdom in the cultural landscape studies. This paper discusseson landscape elements that help to elevate the feeling of sense of place in the context of culture. This paper deliberates on the idea of people?s perception, experience and responses towards their surroundings based on intangible and landscape elements that relate to their culture and norms. Content analysis has been used in reviewing on the prominent researchers discussing on the idea of ?sense of place? are adopted in this study. It was conducted to analyse the fundamental notions of place, perception and experience. This paper concludes thatplaces add value and significantly contribute in establishing the urban setting while elevating a sense of place in the cultural context.

Appreciate the beauty and proportions of people living in cities and urban areas around our late impact is. Modern phenomenon over time, change the physical structure, patterns and new construction. Cities in terms of the historical value and visual fading identity nostalgic textures and varying in quality and value have diminished. It's also a great impact on the time and forgotten identity disorientation because our town is authentic. If human understanding of the meaning of the symbolic, cultural, social space and it does not feel what will happen? Also pay attention to the form, meaning and function in the context of how cities can take valuable? What happens when citizens do not feel safe in the city? Citizens also impact on the collective memory of historical value to the tissues? This paper is an attempt to analyze the proportions of buildings with historic value, "Sami Mosque, Haji bath; Rahmat Samii, home Mofakham" Saghari Sazan street in which the unity of form and proportions in plan and the wall and because of its impact on collective memory and sense of space.

The appearance of place identity in the urban landscape by using the natural factors (a case study of Yasouj)

This study has examined the effects of natural factors (urban landscape) on the place identity. In order to perform this, the place identity has been measured and also its relationship with the components of natural factors, absolute elements, living elements and natural elements have been measured. The study is descriptive and the statistical population has been Yasouj which is a city in Iran. To analyze the data the SPSS software has been used. The results have been investigated in two levels of descriptive and inferential statistics. In the inferential statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient has been used to evaluate the research hypotheses. In this study, the variable of place identity is in high level and the natural factors are also in high level which these results indicate a positive relationship between place identity and natural factors. Saad Sense of Place Psychological Phenomenological and Typological Perspectives

The concept of Sense of Place has been used casually across disciplines to express the people-place relations. It has different definitions according to each discipline and there is no consensus about methods of measuring it. Sense of Place is a complex concept, which involves psychological, social, and phenomenological perspectives. This makes the essence of Sense of Place open to wide interpretation. Understanding the way Sense of Place emerges and changes can help architects, planners and policy makers in the decision making process; the significance, of which impacts the regeneration and development of projects internationally. This thesis explores the concept of Sense of Place through interdisciplinary literature and concludes with a discussion of a developed typology of Sense of Place. Towards the end of the discussion, a concrete example of this previous theoretical discussion is offered in the form of a significant area in the historic core of Cairo, Darb Elhosr.
