In this paper, the authors examined the availability, access to and level of use of academic library information resources of selected academic libraries in Southwestern Nigeria. The objectives were to: determine the extent to which information resources are available for use; find out the extent of access to these information sources; find out the frequency of use of the information resources; determine the barriers to the use of information resources. The survey research method was used. The data collection instrument for the study was the questionnaires method. The major findings were that there is high level of availability of information sources in the selected Nigeria Universities studied; there is high level of accessibility of information sources in the selected Nigerian Universities studied.; majority of the respondents used information sources daily; Services provided in the library are conventional, reactive and product oriented rather than proactive, customer oriented, innovative, and augmentative. Although, libraries tend to build up a vast resource collection, they provide insufficient user oriented programmes. The study recommended among others that Librarians should explore all available means, including lobbying, asserting their rights where necessary, request for gifts, donations and all wholesome means to ensure constant funding of their libraries cum availability of current information resources and factor in modern ICT facilities and innovative approaches into their library services to further improve access and use of their services.

The study investigated the effect of current and relevant information sources on the use of library services in the university libraries in the southeast of Nigeria. Two objectives, two research questions and two hypotheses guided this study. The population for this study was made up of 12,500 registered users out of which a sample of 2000 was taken using proportionate sampling technique. Data were collected using the questionnaire and were analyzed through the use of frequency tabulation and percentages .The hypotheses were tested using statistical method of Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis with the use of computer programme of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS)version10.0. The hypotheses testing were conducted at 0.05 level of significance (p<0.05) for rejection or retention. The currency and relevance of information sources therefore have significant relationship with the use of library services. Recommended adequate funding to acquire current and relevant information sources as well as the provision of ICT and Internet facilities to encourage the use of library services.

The study investigates the availability and accessibility of electronic information resources in federal college of education libraries in Northern Nigeria. The research adopted mixed research methods with a concurrent triangulation research design. The population of the study is 34, 846 library users and 12 college librarians. The sampled respondents were 378 and 9 college librarians. The research used interview and questionnaire for data collections. The data collected were analyzed using thematic analysis and descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study revealed that electronic information resources were found to be available on the platform of e-databases, institutional repository, e-Granary and CDS. Majority of the users had access to e-journal, e-newspapers and audio visual resources available. E-manuscripts, e-dissertations/theses/projects, e-discussion and e-images available were not accessible by majority of the respondents. The libraries had invested in EIRs development and provision of good access is a prerequisite to maximum use of the resources to enhance research, teaching and learning. The study recommended that libraries should acquire resources that are relevant to all users and provide unlimited access remotely, and network facilities should be boosted. Also, training on search skills should be given to enable users have access and use the resources without difficulty. Lastly, the management of the college and their libraries should ensure that all the challenges, such as power outages, denial of access and network fluctuations are minimized in order to encourage access and use of the resources in the libraries.

The paper examines the Information Needs of Library users in Kano State University of Science and Technology, Wudil Nigeria. The research design adopted for this study is descriptive survey method. The study was guided by three research questions and objectives. Purposive convenience sampling technique was used to collect data from a target sample population of 43 library users’. Questionnaire and observation were used to collect from the participant. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistical method, which were presented in form of tables and charts using frequency and sample percentages. The findings revealed that, Majority of the respondents frequently visit the library to satisfy their information need purposely for reading, learning and teaching (41.8%). It also showed that, the major information sources accessible to the respondents are internet and books. The results further showed that, most of the respondents prefer to source for their information need throu...

The paper discusses electronic information resources as library materials use for information works in contemporary information age by library staff. The paper purposely identified the available electronic information resources and their extent of use by library staff. The study employed a descriptive survey design. The instrument of data collection is questionnaire while, population of the study comprises 19 library staff who work in Kogi State University Library, Anyigba. Data gathered by use of questionnaire were analyzed by simple percentage to determine availability of electronic information resources (table,1) and use of available electronic information resources by library staff (table, 2); while mean were used to determine the extent of use of available electronic information resources (table, 3). The findings shows that out of 20 itemized electronic information resources 8(40.0%) were considered available while 12(60.0%) were considered not available. More to this, out of population of 19 library staff 6(31.6%) know how to use available electronic information resources while, 13(68.4%) do not know how to use them. Furthermore, out of 8 available electronic information resources 5 were used to great extent while, 3 to low extent. Hence, data analyzed in (table 1, 2 & 3) are presented in charts. Recommendations were proffered on how to make adequate electronic information resources available, examples/ categories/ types of electronic information resources to be provided (table, 4) as well as uses of them in the library (table, 5) so that library staff would able to use them appropriately to very great extent in support of knowledge to be acquired through trainings.

The study was conducted to investigate the Availability, Accessibility and Satisfaction of Users of Information Resources in the Faculty of Agriculture University Libraries by Non-Academic Staffs of OAU and UI, Nigeria. Three research objectives guided the study. 380 copies of questionnaire were distributed to the respondents in the faculty of agriculture university libraries and in response only 315 (82.89%) were received from the nonacademic staffs. stratified random sampling technique was employed for the study due to the largeness of the population. In the data analysis, frequency counts, simple percentages, and charts were used for the statistical analysis. The findings revealed that the access to information resources such as newspapers, journals, text and reference books, theses and dissertations, E-journals, E-News papers, E-Books and CD-ROMs; It also indicated that the level of usage of information resources for research among non academic is relatively fair and textbook, j...
The study examined the economics of demanding for information resource, with emphasis on the critical factors affecting the demand for information resources among university library users in 5 out of the 7 federal universities that were fully operational in NorthWest Nigeria during the study period. The study adopted descriptive survey and used quantitative methodology to collect data, via the use of questionnaire from 376 registered users that were randomly sampled for the study. Based on a response rate of 75.2%, the study revealed that both library users and their libraries are responsible for the observed critical factors affecting demand for information resources, among the university libraries in NorthWest Nigeria. While users were not following the appropriate technique for demanding information resources, it was discovered that university libraries were not good enough in providing current and up to date information resources to their users. The study shows that users of university libraries in NorthWest Nigeria are fairly satisfied with information resources they demand because of the poor articulation of their information needs and their inability of using catalogue to demand for information resources. Other issues critically affecting demand for information resources include users' inability of using boolean search techniques, outdated or non-current resources as well as inadequate computer and other information technology hardware for accessing information resources.
