Tourism is a rapidly emerging sector in the globalized economy. The number of competing tourist destinations is vast and growing. A given region can be regarded as a commercial unit that tries to attract as many customers i.e. a wider part of the tourism demand (national and international) through an effective combination of input resources. Going down the same logical path, a tourist area must be able to effectively manage inputs, while the output, the result, consists of indicators such as arrivals, overnight stays, added value, employment, consumer satisfaction, etc. A territory can thus evaluate its performance by quantifying its tourism efficiency , allowing decision makers to identify and check any malfunction in the aforesaid process for highlighting a set of policies and activities. ANALYSIS OF THE COMPETITIVENESS OF CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE COUNTRIES AS ATOURIST DESTINATIONS
The purpose of the paper is the analysis of the competitiveness of Central and Eastern Europe countries as tourist destinations. The aims of the paper is to, using a suitable methodology: 1) analyze the changes in the competitiveness of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe as tourist destinations, 2) analyze the position of Serbia in relation to other countries of Central and Eastern Europe in the international tourism market. The study relies on comparative analysis, regression analysis and cluster analysis. The paper is structured into the following segments: a) the analysis of the competitiveness of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe in the period from 2007 to 2015, and an analysis of the competitiveness of Serbia in comparison to the observed countries, b) testing the heterogeneity of observed countries in terms of competitiveness as tourist destinations, and c) the analysis of the values of Natural and cultural resources subindex for the observed countries. The research results suggest that Albania, Serbia and Macedonia recorded a low level of competitiveness as tourist destinations in comparison to the observed countries.
Determinants of CEE Countries’ Tourism Competitiveness: A Benchmarking Study

Management 2016/80 The purpose of this research is to analyze the competitiveness determinants of the travel & tourism sector in Central and East Europe (CEE) countries. The aim is to find the critical competitiveness determinants of the travel & tourism sector in the CEE countries that is being improved by efficient development strategies in the future. The framework for analysis is a methodology of the Travel & Tourism Competitiveness, created by the World Economic Forum, and its classification of competitiveness factors-pillars and necessary information basis for this research. The benchmarking study on CEE countries' tourism competitiveness was conducted using the descriptive statistics, comparative analysis and benchmarking. The research results are related to relevant moments for the CEE group of countries and show the critical pillars for each country in the CEE group. The conclusions of this research give the directions for tourism policy makers in the CEE countries.

This study explores an important issue in tourism, namely, the competitiveness of tourism. In the present paper, we aim at analyzing the relationship between tourism and national prosperity. The term competitiveness is a research topic intensively addressed in various fields, and it can answer current research questions related to a constantly changing tourism industry. Thus, the possibility of knowing how competitive this particularly important sector is for the five emerging countries considered in the study, namely, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, allows public authorities and entrepreneurs to estimate the revenues that can generate the field of hospitality. Identifying the factors of tourism competitiveness level in the southeastern European countries

The aim of this paper is to identify key factors for competitiveness enhancement and tourism sector development in Southeastern European (SEE) countries. For the purposes of this research, factors (the so-called, pillars and subindexes) of the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) have been analyzed by applying proper statistical models (descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression analysis). Considering the fact that there is a high level of correlation between the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI) and TTCI, the influence of TTCI factors on GCI in SEE countries has been analyzed within this paper. This research points out the fact that human resources represent significant factor SEE countries should pay more attention to, when building up new strategies and programs of tourism sector development in function of increasing the competitiveness level and the growth of that sector.

The purpose of this research is to analyse the competitiveness of southeastern Europe (SEE) countries with the help of The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) and The Global Competitiveness Index (GCI), as well as to explore the correlation and mutual influence of these two indices. The aim is to explore the homogeneity of SEE countries according to tourism competitiveness performance. The research was conducted on the basis of secondary data sources and statistical methods, with emphasis on the cluster analysis. Structurally, the article is composed of the following parts: Analyses of the competitiveness of SEE countries according to GCI and TTCI, exploration of SEE countries homogeneity according to the GCI and the TTCI sub-indices, as well as according to the pillars within the TTCI. The research results indicate that there exists a high correlation between the TTCI and GCI, as well as that SEE countries are not homogenous according to these indices. The research provides the initial framework for benchmarking the tourism performance of different countries, and determination of objectives and strategies for improving tourism competitiveness.
