The Sustainable Design Rules of Landscape

E3S web of conferences, 2021

After the global developments that occurred, the most important of which is the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic, it was imperative to pay attention to outdoor spaces to preserve public health. There are important of studying the relationships between sustainable landscape design, the people, and the urban environment. The research problem revolves around a commitment to sustainable landscape design rules, which included variables in the sustainable natural space environment: environment, economy, justice, beauty, experience, and ethics. The research hypothesis is that there must be a system for the variables of sustainable spaces that determine relationships, opportunities, contradictions, and system parameters about people's health and safety, environmental services, biodiversity, and resource management. To achieve the above goals must be studied; compatibility with systems, the positive effects of globalization, the appropriate scale, and the interactivebehavioral, meaningful landscapes, the distinctive paradigm, using the alternative landscape and regenerated landscapes.

Urban landscape, place identity and their components: a new software tool for supporting the sustainable urban planning and design

2021

The new structure of the contemporary city is unpredictable and complex, especially given the continuous mix of cultures which brings new elements to the already multiple identity of places, breaking, mixing and recomposing the complexity of urban life. In order to explain such new sites and give new terms, several researchers have tested new methodologies, maps, multimedia images, hypertext, software, able to render this complexity and to permit readability. One matter remains open-ended: the dialogue of these tools with administrators and planners, but also with non-specialists of those sectors, common users of the place, inhabitants, because of the difficulties finding a single shared model of representation. The method of analysis of the Sensitive Relief identifies the elements of the urban landscape which have value for the identification of the places and are able to influence the cultural and sustainable city construction; those new elements and the complexity of those places...

The Creation of the Landscape Planning and Design Projects with Idea Developed for Diversity

— Recent years the relationship between the nature and human has become disappearing. Because people are forced to live in urban areas which are concrete and metal stack in today's. So city people have demanded to return the areas belonging to them from time to time where resembling the natural environment. In this regard urban parks are important for the city and the city people. This study focuses on the preferred qualities of area in terms of both environmental affordances and design characteristics in urban park and recreation area. The key concern of this study is to explore the concepts of the projects and reflects of this to the projects and area. The study was conducted in the Bartın City. The study area planned and designed in different views of the planners/designers. After studies three projects prepared in different concepts were selected for example. The research instrument was a set of landscape plan and design projects including survey, spot, master, vegetable, construction, sketch and perspective elements. The study covers the importance of planners/designers' preference in landscape plan and design studios. Landscape structure and functions have been examined within the context of the entire natural and cultural dynamics in the study. The project phases involved setting thematic strategic objectives, conceptualizing spatial development scenario along with action plans and delivering model proposals. In compliance with protection and management of natural and cultural landscapes, the project introduces natural and cultural asset-based approach to form local sustainable development framework. Each development idea has been tested with others and the sustainability of natural-cultural landscapes, and subsequently spatial interaction analysis scrutinized. In conclusion, this paper outlined the area development strategy project alongside the author's point of view with a focus on concepts. Finally, the results were used to create a set of useful recommendations to help urban people and designers create more livable spaces in urban areas.

The Landscape Suitability as a sustainable aspect of Architectural Cultural Heritage. Case Study of Ria Formosa Natural Park

WORLD HERITAGE and DEGRADATION. Smart Design, Planning and Technologies, 2016

Since the 1970s, the heritage classification system has been including both tangible and intangible cultural expressions and more integrative criteria, depending on the ability of what is classified to be recognized by its community, contributing to the characterization and perpetuation of cultural identity. Within the landscape framework, that cultural identity is built through a codification process based on the interaction between the communities and their places according to the ecological conditions. As a result, the architecture has become the collective life of communities’ expression and the unique character of landscape manifestation. However, the recent urban occupation, special in coastal areas, has been incompatible with the landscape transformation processes, by which was created a set of management tools and restrictive areas – like Natural Parks - to protect its values. Nevertheless, this kind of limited approach has been damaging in keeping the landscape alive and its communities have lost the “sense of the architectural place”. In this sense, the present paper seeks to describe the assumptions of an integrated interpretation methodology of landscape as a contribution to the sustainable conservation and valorization of architectural heritage. Such an approach considers the human action not as an exterior causality, but as an active principle of responsibility that is part of a community.

The Formation of the Modern Urban Environment Using Landscape Design Methods

MATEC Web of Conferences, 2016

The authors discuss the challenges, which face the person in relation to the culture of creating a sustainable urban environment. Urban environment is seen as space of human existence, influencing his spiritual and physical health. All the specialists engaged in the urban environment, think about the culture of its formation, unfortunately, only from an institutional point of view. Differently organized human environment inevitably affects the behavior, psycho-emotional state of a person, his perception and understanding of space. The cultural heritage of society fits in the space of an artificial environment that man has created and determines human behavior. To solve the problems of the urban environment, it is necessary to apply a set of interrelated technical, social, environmental, aesthetic and other measures. In this capacity, landscape design can be seen as a set of methods to create a sustainable urban environment to ensure harmonious living. The given paper presents the results of studies of innovative materials in the field of the modern urban environment.

Cultural landscape in the times of sustainable development

2013

The article refers to the present day landscape policy, which has been coded in the European Landscape Convention. It discusses relations between the landscape policy and the ideas of sustainable development. It discusses factors and stages of transformation of cultural landscapes. Cultural landscape is considered as a whole, as the basis and background for human activities, and a peculiar palimpsest – the source of meanings and symbols. Ecological ethics is the reflection of contemporary aware attitude of the man towards the environment. It is also expressed in sustainable development of landscape. It the times of continuous consumption of landscape, the author gives reasons why it is necessary to expand the activities related to sustainable development on the physiognomy of the environment, that is the cultural landscape. Sustainable landscape management should take into consideration multiple areas where eco-development is carried out: ecological, social, economic, technical, leg...

A Framework on urban design strategies for sustainability of cultural and historical dimension in urban landscape

Cultural heritage is the accumulation of tangible and intangible values stemming from human creativity and interaction between societies, since the beginning of human life on earth. Historical environments and historical city textures are tangible documents of cultural heritage which created and formed places. It is necessary to comprehend historical environment in which we live. Historical environments are like open space museums which exhibit their own selves. Cultural identity and cultural heritage are hidden in historical environment which is a major document demonstrating and reflecting cultural identity. It is time historical heritage should have been protected and cultural heritage should have been transmitted to the next generation. It is essential that planners, architectures, landscape architectures, and others whoever studies on urban issues should recognize the need to provide the sustainability of cultural identity. Cultural heritage should be transmitted to the next generation as it has been transmitted from past generation to the present. Both urban planning and every kind of design are the scenarios related to community or individuals. Thus, land use decisions and spatial decisions should consider current tendencies of community as much as it should take into account of transmitting of natural and cultural values to the future. Urban design is the best tool to provide sustainability of historical and cultural heritage. In this paper, a framework on urban design studies for sustainability of cultural heritage in historical environment has been presented. This framework has a systematic approach on urban design and sustainability point of view from the beginning to the end of the decision and design process.

Cultural and Natural Heritage as Inputs of Sustainable Planning: A Theoretical Framework

—For some cities like İstanbul, Rome, Paris and Cairo etc. as being the ones having natural and cultural heritage intensively, the most dominant planning data is the heritage itself. If we talk of sustainable planning, we should talk of not only the true planning regarding ecological principles, but also protection and reassesment of cultural and natural heritage at circumstances regarding sustainability, therefore this has to recognized as a true sign of ecological approach. On the other hand, one of the applied tools of Sustainability; " Sustaina ble Planning " as a correspondence of " Sustainable Development " in planning, is meant to use the nature and resources in the name of protecting them, for the sake of caring future generations. Today, World's energy strategies based on solid fuel and petrol, unbalanced resource consumption with least sense, consuming environment negatively, increasing rates at population, consumption and urbanization, the lack of fast regeneration in nature, and many other parameters like the ones above which will remain unmentioned, threaten 'Sustainability' in direct. The purpose of this article, instead of consuming resources in the sense above, is to show of assessing cultural and natural heritages (for being ecological resource in essence and reflecting histo-cultural aggregation of humanity) and of using it as an input, by verifying the feasibility of it to be a paremeter providing-supporting the mentality of ecological planning and cultural sustainability. Sustainable planning must be expected to create principles and decisions regarding to protect-use balance for this heritage which is under the threat and pressure of civic developments. The use of cultural and historical heritage as an argument in Sustainable planning is given as of work and reports, international contracts and reported decisions related to these all are also given as references

Urban landscape: A review of key concepts and main purposes

International Journal of Development and Sustainability, 2019

Since the advent and birth of the urban landscape as an academic discipline, various attitudes have emerged in this field, and different disciplines and sciences have treated differently in this regard. The purpose of this research is to determine the scope of the urban landscape as an important branch of the landscape by introducing and explaining purposes and approaches. In this paper, collecting and classifying findings has been done using logical reasoning and library studies. Therefore, by focusing on the evolution of the concept of urban landscape in recent decades, the approaches and the main purposes in this field, are recognized and presented. Based on studies, in general, four approaches can be considered for urban landscape: Artistic approach, Functional approach, Perceptual / Contextual approach, and Sustainable approach. According to the proposed approaches, it was found that four factors of aesthetics, function, identity and ecology are the main purposes of the urban landscape in designs and researches. In other words, it can be said that all the designs and researches in the urban landscape are focused on these four main purposes. Consideration of this issue is so important that the proposed purposes have extensive meanings, and each approach interprets them differently.
