The associated production of a Z boson or an off-shell photon γ * with a bottom quark in the forward region is studied using proton-proton collisions at a centreof-mass energy of 7 TeV. The Z bosons are reconstructed in the Z/γ * → µ + µ − final state from muons with a transverse momentum larger than 20 GeV, while two transverse momentum thresholds are considered for jets (10 GeV and 20 GeV). Both muons and jets are reconstructed in the pseudorapidity range 2.0 < η < 4.5. The results are based on data corresponding to 1.0 fb −1 recorded in 2011 with the LHCb detector. The measurement of the Z+b-jet cross-section is normalized to the Z+jet cross-section. The measured cross-sections are σ(Z/γ * (µ + µ −)+b-jet) = 295 ± 60 (stat) ± 51 (syst) ± 10 (lumi) fb for p T (jet)> 10 GeV, and σ(Z/γ * (µ + µ −)+b-jet) = 128 ± 36 (stat) ± 22 (syst) ± 5 (lumi) fb for p T (jet)> 20 GeV.

A measurement of the b jet production cross section is presented for events containing a Z boson produced in pp collisions at √ s = 1.96 TeV, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2 fb −1 collected by the CDF II detector at the Tevatron. Z bosons are selected in the electron and muon decay modes. Jets are considered with transverse energy E T > 20 GeV and pseudorapidity |η| < 1.5 and are identified as b jets using a secondary vertex algorithm. The ratio of the integrated Z + b jet cross section to the inclusive Z production cross section is measured to be 3.32 ± 0.53(stat.) ± 0.42(syst.) × 10 −3 . This ratio is also measured differentially in jet E T , jet η, Z-boson transverse momentum, number of jets, and number of b jets. The predictions from leading order Monte Carlo generators and next-to-leading-order QCD calculations are found to be consistent with the measurements within experimental and theoretical uncertainties. Results are presented on the production of jets of particles in association with a Z/γ * boson, in proton-proton collisions at √ s = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector. The analysis includes the full 2010 data set, collected with a low rate of multiple proton-proton collisions in the accelerator, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36 pb −1 . Inclusive jet cross sections in Z/γ * events, with Z/γ * decaying into electron or muon pairs, are measured for jets with transverse momentum pT > 30 GeV and jet rapidity |y| < 4.4. The measurements are compared to next-to-leadingorder perturbative QCD calculations, and to predictions from different Monte Carlo generators implementing leading-order matrix elements supplemented by parton showers.
