Role of Mobile Technology and their Application in Library Services in Digital era

International Journal of Innovative Knowledge Concepts, 2017

This paper is focusing to the prospective of mobile devices in Library and Information centers. Implementation of mobile Technology has change the way of people to access and communicate information. Users want easy and instant access to relevant information, putting pressure on Library and Information Science (LIS) professionals to think out of the box for meeting their information needs. Application of mobile phones to provide library and information services are a significant step in this direction. In this 21 st century Library and information science professional's essentially to use mobile technology in libraries and this new technology offering outreach technical options for librarians. Libraries have the well opportunity to extend new different types of library services to users. This study is a new platform for reaching students and staff members. The main purpose of this study mobile technology use in higher education generally and particularly effective utilize in libraries and library services.

BASIC INTRODUCTION MOBILE BASED LIBRARY SERVICES: ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES

EPRA International Journal of Research and Development (IJRD), 2021

Mobile phones are now a useful feature of every human need. Any work is useful for doing within the time limit and in a specific manner. Mobile phones are equally useful for services available in the library. Mobile services are used to help you get home in books return/ renewal, overdue, etc. Besides this, mobile phones are also useful for web browsing, gaming, projects, CCTV, GPS tracking, online transactions. So what services can be provided in the library through mobile phones and technology. We will get information about it.

Mobile Technology has provided faster access to and delivery of information and other related services; it is also challenging the libraries and information centers to change round, modify and upgrade their services approach by implementing the new technological changes. Nowadays all mobile devices are gradually becoming an integral part of all and sundry thereby redirecting connectivity and interactions globally with dynamic feature compare to the static state of the computer technology. From the study, Mobile Technology capabilities will greatly support all forms of information access, storage, transmission etc. and provide help to researchers and users of research content to the strengthening of their relationship and providing enhanced user oriented services to existing users. The challenges facing mobile technology were also identified with a view of recommending to developers needed areas in satisfying local users. The study discusses on the capabilities and challenges of mobile technology in general services delivery.

The Effect of Mobile Access on Library Services

EDULEARN19 Proceedings, 2019

The invention of the internet and the development of contemporary information and communication technologies (ICT) have drastically changed the world. Mobile technologies and devices are ubiquitous and offer access to information and communication opportunities regardless of time and location. The power, functionality and accessibility of mobile devices increase on a daily basis, thus providing more and more opportunities. The extensive insertion of mobile technologies in everyday life reveals new ways of their effective application in education, science, access to information and, in particular, library activities. It is inadmissible for a contemporary library not to use actively the new communication technologies, not to offer online and mobile access to its services and resources. In order to answer adequately contemporary users’ needs, information institutions must provide easy and convenient access to their resources as well as services. This paper presents summarised informati...

Understanding Mobile Technology for Service Delivery in Academic Library

Issues In Information Systems, 2013

The use of Mobile technologies in organisation including institution of higher education has increased significantly in recent years. In institution of higher education, the focuses have been on its use for teaching and learning. Due to the flexibility and easy accessibility, learners and educators are increasingly depending mobile technologies for their academic activities. The development of mobile technology has resulted in shifting the academic environment from traditional to mobile learning settings. This paper focused on the possible implications of mobile devices on teaching and learning. The qualitative case study approach was employed in the study. Based on the finding from the analysis of the empirical data, a Framework was developed. The Framework could be employed to address the implications in the drive to enhance the services of academic library. Mobile learning has a lot of potential for quick and wide reaching out to the geographically wide spread of learners. The paper helps to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of mobile technology in providing services in the library of academic institutions.

Mobile Access to Information Services and Resources: The Library Experience

EDULEARN19 Proceedings, 2019

Libraries are prevalent cultural and information institutions all over the civilized world. They have proven to be highly satisfactory in regard to meeting the information needs of different society groups and have gained the society’s confidence. In view of their mission and policy of service libraries are some of the most democratic institutions. They play a key role in providing equal and unrestricted access to information for everyone. Mobile access to libraries’ information resources and services may be realised in different ways. One of them, used for a long time and considered traditional, is realised through means of transport – a bookmobile, most commonly. Another relatively recent, but extensively implemented form of mobile access is remote access, which makes use of the opportunities provided by the Internet and contemporary information technologies. Furthermore, there are temporary initiatives offering library resources and services in institutions and even outdoors – in...

Investigation into the Challenges Associated with the Delivery of Library Services on Mobile Technology Platform

IAFOR Journal of Literature & Librarianship, 2020

Challenges in implementing technology-based services in academic libraries have witnessed quite a lot of work in this area. This study assesses some of the challenges associated with the delivery of library services on mobile technology (m-tech) platforms. A survey research design and the mixed method approach were used in conducting this research. The topmost m-tech based library services identified in the study include mobile digital repository; mobile online public access catalogues; referencing services; SMS alerts; selective dissemination of information as well as mobile instructional guides and tours. The study established that insufficient ICT infrastructure; bureaucratic processes; poor internet bandwidth; lack of IT experts and staff; lack of a policy framework; erratic or unstable power supply; lack of support from the university management; in addition to financial constraints prohibited the full provision of library services through m-tech across the libraries studies. Based on these findings, this research offers some recommendations that would serve to overcome, in part the challenges associated with the implementation of m-tech based library services in academic libraries.
