Determinants of Thai information and communication technology organization performance: A structural equation model analysis

Kasetsart Journal of Social Sciences, 2017

Thailand 4.0 has awoken many to the information and communication technology (ICT) human resource needs in academic institutions, in research facilities, and industry. To support this, the government has targeted USD 1 billion to train 12,290 research PhDs to serve in 10 key industrial sectors over the next 20 years. The Thai ICT sector that is required to support these goals however has been constantly identified as significantly lacking the skills, knowledge, and expertise to meet the needs of a 21st century, knowledge-based economy. This study, therefore, set out to identify the key variables required to support an ICT organization's performance. By use of a structural equation model and the PLS Graph software, analysis was performed on the interrelationships of the identified latent variables consisting of knowledge management, human resource management systems, employee competency, and ICT organization performance. The results from the analysis indicated that the human resource management system in an organization is the most important factor, with knowledge management and employee competency of secondary importance to ICT organization performance.

Techno-structural intervention and its effect on readiness for change in the Indonesian government-owned corporation

International Journal of Public Sector Performance Management, 2018

Techno-structural interventions emphasising on improving the organisational effectiveness and human performance, which is focused on technology and structure. For a government-owned corporation to assist employees in being motivated and prepared for change, it is essential that managers, employees, and all stakeholders understand factors may influence readiness for change. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the techno-structural intervention consisting of restructuring organisation, employee involvement, and work design toward readiness for change. The data were collected through a survey using self-reported questionnaire and purposive sampling. The entire population of 73 employees was sampled in this study including permanent employees. The findings indicate that readiness for change was affected by employee involvement. This study was also found a significant effect of work design on readiness for change. However, the results revealed that restructuring organisation has no effect on readiness for change. Additionally, the implications and limitations were discussed.

Interpretative Structural Modelling for Determining Dominant Success Criteria of Information System (IS) Success at Handycraft SMEs in Yogyakarta, Indonesia

International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management, 2019

The purpose of this research paper is to determine the dominant criteria of Information System (IS) success specific to handcraft SMEs in Yogyakarta and to establish relationship among those criteria using interpretive structural modeling (ISM). A small portion of those SMEs have started using information system. However, they face several barriers to successfully implement the information system. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the success of information system implementation. But, no study has been done regarding the measurement IS success specific to handcraft SMEs in Yogyakarta. This research involved interview-based surveys and ISM approach to determine the dominant criteria of IS success of SMEs in Yogyakarta context. In total, 16 SMEs were involved as research objects in this research. In this research, four cluster of SME have been identified and the modified IS Success model for each cluster was developed accordingly. The modified model for each cluster has 14, 20, 16...

Examining the Structural Relationships of New Communication and Information Technologies, Organizational Structure and Firm Performance: An Analysis of Consultant Engineers Firms (CEF) in Iran

2012

3 Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to study the interrelationships among new information and communication technologies (ICT), organizational structure and firm performance. A twenty-minute pen and paper questionnaire was distributed to managers and experts of Consultant Engineering Firms in Tehran through a nonprobability, convenience-sampling approach. Reliability and validity of the measurement scale were established through Cronbach's alpha analyses and confirmatory factor analysis. A structural equation model (SEM) test with maximum likelihood estimation was performed to test the relationship among the research variables using 252 participants. The empirical results from the structural model suggest that: (1) ICT positively influences organizational structure; (2) ICT positively influences firm performance; and (3) organizational structure positively influences firm performance. Implications and future research issues were discussed.

The use and misuse of structural equation modeling in management research

Journal of Advances in Management Research, 2014

The research practice in management research is dominantly based on structural equation modeling, but almost exclusively, and often misguidedly, on covariance-based SEM. We adumbrate theoretical foundations and guidance for the two SEM streams: covariance-based, also known as LISREL, covariance structure analysis, latent variable analysis, etc.; and variance-based SEM, also known as a component-based SEM, PLS, etc. Our conceptual framework discusses the two streams by analysis of theory, measurement model specification, sample and goodness-of-fit. We question the usefulness of Cronbach's alpha research paradigm and discuss alternatives that are well-established in social science, but not well-known in the management research community. We conclude with discussion of some open questions in management research practice that remain under-investigated and unutilized.

Internationalization of SMEs and Organizational Factors in a Developing Country: A Case Study of ICT Industry of Iran 1

2012

SMEs as an engine of growth play an important role in developing countries for poverty reduction, the role which has attracted the attention of scholars in recent years. This study explores the effect of firm's characteristics, resources and top management team characteristics on the internationalization of SMEs. Based on the literature, a conceptual model is proposed in which firm's resources are assumed as an intervening variable. As a result, the model shows that top management team variable has both a direct and indirect effect on internationalization. In order to survey, top managers of international SMEs in Iran ICT sector were asked to fill in a questionnaire. The resulting data was analyzed through structural equation modeling which leads us to codifying a causal model accordingly. The research results show a direct and indirect positive effect of top management team on internationalization of SMEs, however it indicates that indirect effect of firm's characteristics is not significant. Finally, a set of guidelines are proposed for internationalization of SMEs in developing countries.

Structural Equation Modeling for the Business Performance of Private Hospitals in Thailand: Management Perspective

ABAC Journal , 2024

This research aimed to study the causal factors affecting the business performance of private hospitals in Thailand from a management perspective. The sample consisted of 411 executives from private hospitals in Thailand, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected via questionnaire, with SEM being used for analysis. The results indicated that the development of an enterprise resource system, including the competency and capability of entrepreneurs, positively influenced the focus on competitive differentiation. In turn, this focus had a positive effect on customer relationship management. Customer relationship management positively impacted brand loyalty, which subsequently enhanced business performance. In contrast, the competency and capability of entrepreneurs did not have an effect on business performance. The findings suggest that the growth and sustainability of business performance in private hospitals depends on various supportive factors. These range from policy formulation and the development of technological systems in services to strategies for building customer relationships, all contributing to competitive advantages, service loyalty, and success in achieving set goals.

Intra-Organizational Factors Affecting Business Performance: An Empirical Study in Vietnam

Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Business, 2021

In the era of industry 4.0 with the robust digital transformation, especially under the trigger of the Covid-19 pandemic, the process of transforming businesses to achieve the desired business performance depends much on the mindset transformation of each member of the organization, beginning with the thoughts of leadership and stakeholders. This study will evaluate the relationship between leadership's strategic reasoning perspectives on employee engagement or commitment and the company's reputation, thereby directly or indirectly affecting organizational performance. The study examines data from 382 companies out of 500 samples in typical industries in Vietnam using the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) techniques. The results show that holistic thinking is closely related to employee retention and corporate reputation, thereby increasing the business outcomes of the organization, whereas there was no evidence to support analytical thinking in this study. As a consequence, transforming the business to achieve the desired business performance is heavily reliant on changing the mindset of each member of the organization, beginning with the top leaders and influencers of the business. This will assist Vietnamese leaders in gaining a comprehensive understanding of corporate governance and controlling the relationships between organizational constructs.
