This article is about the hermeneutical tradition in Russian culture of the 19th and 20th centuries. The main direction in this tradition was biblical, philology and legal hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is one of most influential traditions in modern philosophy including the conceptions of such figures as F. Schleiermacher, W. Dilthey, M. Heidegger, H.-G Gadamer, and P. Ricoeur. The general preconditions causing their emergence, and also the similar phenomena in other cultures (Germany especially). The central reality for the hermeneutic tradition is the reality of language. Language is a main means of human communication and a certain way of passing on some social experience from one generation to another. The paper researches various problems of philosophical knowledge: ontology, social philosophy, aesthetics. The author examines the relevant aspects of philosophical hermeneutics by V. V. Rozanov (1856-1919). There are revealed similarities and differences between the Rozanov's concept and other authors (Russian and European) in the article. The author shows the inclusion of Rozanov's hermeneutical conception in Russian cultural tradition. The author points out that these concepts should be attributed to Aristotelian philosophical currents. Of course, Rozanov was the most important figure this tradition in Russia.
Theological Herald, 2021
The article examines the peculiarities of the popular perception of such fundamental worldview categories as «holiness» and «sin», which are associated with archaic ideas about the sacredness of the earth and the worship of fertility. After the embracing of Baptism, some archaic elements continued to coexist with Christian values in the worldview of the Eastern Slavs. Plenty of them have been organically integrated into the Orthodox folk tradition and have become an important part of religious consciousness. However, the popular ideas about sin did not always fully match the Church's ethical guidelines and canonical norms. The popular faith contains a number of prohibitions and restrictions, primarily of a domestic and ritual nature which neither can be directly derived from the text of Holy Scripture or the patristic heritage nor can much be associated with Orthodox doctrine at all. This discrepancy is largely due to the specific features of the perception of holiness, dating back to the pre-Christian era and associated with archaic ideas about holiness as an excess of vitality, the holder of which is, in particular, the Earth as the giver of assets and the provider of man. Traces of this veneration, firmly rooted in the cultural memory of the people, are found not only in the works of the folklore genre but also in domestic practices and even religious customs, many of which are relevant to this day. Inter alia, the existence of specific prohibitions on agricultural work on certain Orthodox holidays, as well as the habit of collecting medicinal herbs on special days of the church calendar, should be recognized as rudiments of such a reverent attitude to the earth, characteristic not only of our ancestors but also of our contemporaries.
Key values in Japanese religion and culture in Russian
Religious Studies: Scientific and Theoretical Journa, 2018
As civilizations and cultures come into contact with one another, there are borrowings and adaptations. However, this process is filtered through certain cultural values. This paper examines some key values in Japanese culture which are expressed in both “religious” and “non-religious” forms. Similar values may be present within other cultures or civilizations but their specific configurations within a particular culture may distinguish one culture from another.

This article is dedicated to the study of the prerequisites for the formation of cultural relations between Russia and the countries and peoples of the East from ancient times to the 18th century, as well as identifying the role of their influence on Russian culture. The history of relations of Russians with the countries and peoples of the East has been studied in many works, but the cultural aspect of relations needs a more detailed analysis. The cultural ties between Russians and the East and, as a consequence, the influence of these peoples on Rus and Russia lasted as long as the existence of Russian statehood itself. Cultural influence on Russians came from Turkic peoples (Pechenegs, Khazars, etc.), Mongols, China, etc. This was due to the geographical position of our country, and took place under different circumstances: pilgrimages, book culture, wars, establishment of diplomatic ties, etc
Об архаических чертах народной культуры русин Восточной Словакии
Studia mythologica Slavica, 2019
This article continues the study of Ruthenian spiritual culture and aims at the determination of ancient elements in the selected rituals and their parts in folk meteorology, wedding, funeral and birth ceremonials, and beliefs about animals and birds in the all-Slavic context. It is shown that the traditional Ruthenian culture is very close to the West Ukrainian ones on the one hand and that it has substantive differences, which allow considering Ruthenian tradition a separate East-Slavic tradition with deep historical background.
Muslim subjectivities in Russian history
RUDN Journal of Russian History
A researcher who studies the subjectivity of believers and religious people will have a number of unanswered questions. Through their work, the author has hoped to address the most prominent of them: the problem of sincerity, the relationship between external and internal subjectivity, the methodology of research of the subject, the multi-discursiveness of subjectivity, and, in many respects, the duality of the given (traditional) and the indefinite/unestablished (new) thought provoked by its study. Several definitions of the concept of “subjectivity” are also proposed by the author, and Muslim subjectivities are considered in the historical context of the period, and how they are represented and covered under a new form of historical research - the History of Muslim Subjectivities. The article ends with a brief review of the thematic themes on the subject, including: the Soviet view of Muslim childhood; the “prison experience” of Russian Muslims; female subjectivity; and Islamic rh...
