A Sociolinguistic Analysis of Taboo Words in Bad Teacher Movie

The researcher investigated taboo words uttered by the characters in Bad Teacher movie using the sociolinguistics approach. The objective of this research was to identify the types and functions of taboo words uttered by the characters in the movie. This research is descriptive qualitative. In addition, this research also used the quantitative method to support the interpretation of data by presenting fixed percentages in the numerical form. The data were collected by selecting dialogues containing taboo words after watching the movie and matching the transcript with the video carefully. The primary instrument of this research was the researcher, while the secondary instrument was a data sheet. The results of the research were stated as follows. There were four types of taboo words found in the movie. They were obscenity, profanity, vulgarity, and epithet. The Use of Taboo Words in The Bad Boys II Movie

This research aims to analyze taboo words in Bad Boys II movie. The objective of this research is to identify the types of taboo words that are mostly found in the movie. The theory used in this research is Sociolinguistics by Wardhaugh, specifically types of taboo words. The methodology employed is qualitative approach with the researcher as the main instrument to collect the data in forms of dialogue from the movie by watching it repeatedly. The researcher analyzes and interprets the data based on the taboo words and its functions proposed by Wardhaugh. The findings of the research are dominated by bodily functions; followed by religious matters, and certain game animals, and they are aimed to provoke chaotic reaction.

Taboo words are cultural or religious custom that is not allowed to be used to someone else. However, taboo words are also found in daily conversation. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the types, function and meaning of taboo words found in the film. The data of this analysis were taken from a film entitled “Dirty Grandpa”. The data were collected through documentation method and note-taking technique. The data were descriptively analyzed based on the types, function and meaning of taboo words. An Analysis of Taboo Words in the Movie ‘Scorsese Casino’

In social interactions, there are still many people who use taboo words to mock and even berate others. It maes communication not good, so that it can cause conflict between each other. In this study we will discuss about the taboo words used by the characters in the Scorsese's Casino film. The purpose of this study was to find out the types of taboo words contained in Scorsese's Casino Movie, to eliminate the taboo words and the reasons why these taboo words were spoken. 2006). This study used descriptive qualitative method. The data in this study is from Film Casino which contains the translation of taboo words and the reasons why taboo words are spoken. Data were collected in the form of sentences containing taboo words. There are 68 data found in this study, here are the results of the analysis. There are four types of taboo words found in Scorsese's Casino, namely epithets, profanity, vulgarity, and obscenity. There are four reasons why taboo words are spoken which are to draw attention to oneself, to show contempt, to be provocative. Based on the results above, it can be seen that most of the characters in Scorsese's Casino use epithets and obscenity to insult, these two types of words are the most influential words. While the reason why taboo words are spoken is dominantly to show contempt. So this research is useful for the community so that people can take better care of their words in communicating by using better words.

This study was aimed at examining the use of swear word in the movies with different topics and characters. The objectives if this study were to find out the reasons of using swear word in the movies. This study was conducted by descriptive qualitative method. The source of data was transcript the movies. The data were identified, analyzed, and categorized based on L,jung ( 2012 ) theory. The technique of data collection was interactive model by Miles and Huberman ( 2014 ). The findings of the study showed that : 1. There are three ways of using swear words such as (1) interjection, (2) emphasizer, (3), expletive slot filler in each movies, but from all of that ways interjections is the most in each movies. 2. The reasons for using the swear words in the movies are psychological; and social movies.

The use of taboo words is strongly influenced by culture. In the growing discourse of use of taboo words in social reality, men are often portrayed to have discourteous traits and utter any form of taboo words when compared to women. However, a movie entitled Death Proof does not show the same trend. The present research aimed at investigating taboo words in the mentioned movie by focusing on their types and motives. Through the utilization of observation and documentation techniques, the data comprised utterances of the main characters that contained taboo words. This study explores the representation of taboo language and euphemisms in David Fincher's "Fight Club" (1999), aiming to understand their reflection of late-1990s American cultural norms and societal disillusionment. Framed within Allan and Burridge's (2006) theoretical perspectives on euphemisms and Timothy Jay's (1992) work on taboo language, a qualitative content analysis of the film's script was conducted. Findings reveal a prevalence of profanity with 46 instances noted, alongside strategic use of euphemisms, notably 20 instances referring to death and killing, and 13 instances related to sexual activity. These linguistic choices underscore countercultural themes, portraying characters' resistance to societal norms. The study highlights the intricate relationship between language, culture, and social dynamics, suggesting further exploration of linguistic choices in media narratives to illuminate broader cultural phenomena, aiding in the understanding of authenticity and rebellion within contemporary society
