An Analysis of Driving Behavior of Educated Youth in Bangladesh Considering Physiological, Cultural and Socioeconomic Variables

Sustainability

One of the alarming aspects of Bangladesh’s traffic safety is the massive growth in the number of drivers without previous driving instruction or licenses. Proper traffic safety is defined as systems and techniques used to safeguard road users against dying or being severely injured. A driving simulator policy and an environmental model are validated in this research. It aims to create a safe mass transit system with a minimal number of fatalities and injuries. The study focuses on current road and transportation strategies. Educated and internet-using Bangladeshi drivers took part in a questionnaire about their emotional stability on an online platform with more than 100 questions comprising two parts. While one of the part outlines the physiological, cultural, and socioeconomic factors and driver education, in another part, an 18-point Driver’s Behavior Questionnaire was introduced to the responders. About 40% of the surveyed drivers in the poll were inexperienced. However, 49% of...

Analysis of Driving Speed in Highway and Psychological Factors in Speeding Behavior in the Jakarta Area and Its Surroundings (Case Study: Bekasi Main Street)

2nd Conference of ASEAN Road Safety 2018, 2018

The rapid development of Bandung Municipality in the era of sustainable development nowadays, resulted an increase of the type, number, and intensity of the population that led to the increasing mobility of youth travel behavior especially at the age 15 to 24. From several expert's review, individual travel behavior was influenced by some factors such as travel frequency, distance, travel cost, destination, and choice of transportation mode. This research aimed is to describe the youth travel behavior mobility especially mode choices and its correlation to mixed land use. This research is using quantitative methods and descriptive approach. The result showed that motorcycle dominated the mode choice in mixed land use with high and medium entropy, while public transportation was highest in the low entropy mixed land use. Our data support that generally the youth travel behavior tends to disobey the traffic rules, thus has high risk accident.

Assessing factors affecting professional bus drivers in Central Java, Indonesia

Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research), 2021

Public transportation is a key solution to a connecting city in Indonesia country. An important factor of driver behavior and driver fatigue is the potential for loss in this field. This study aims to identify traffic loss risk factors associated with demographic characteristics, fatigue levels, body mass index, driver experience blood pressure levels, and inappropriate driver attitudes on public transport as well as to find out the effects of fatigue levels. This research is a cross-sectional technique with descriptive analytics. The sample in this study was 67 professional bus drivers with licenses in Central Java Province, Indonesia. Data collection in the month 1-30 January 2021. Based on the results of the study showed that 67 respondents, 77.6% experienced severe level fatigue, 85.1% worked more than 8 hours, 73.1% had a smoking habit. For Body Mass Index 29.9% are overweight, 65.7% have prehypertensive blood pressure levels. The fatigue experienced by public transport drivers is categorical as heavy (77.6%). periodic checks are required regarding the level of fatigue so that the risk of traffic accidents does not occur. The policy regarding working hours must be carried out from an average of 13.82 hours per day to 8 hours, according to regulations and a bus driver's working period of more than 5 years is a record of future health problems. Professional bus drivers have a dangerous level of fatigue, so there needs to be a change in the work system in order to avoid the risk of traffic accidents related to public transportation.

The influence of music genres on the driving behaviour of young drivers and their visual scanning of the environment

Recently, distractions have been recognized as a significant risk factor in road traffic. This simulator study aims to investigate how different music genres affect the driving behaviour of young drivers and their visual scanning of the environment in urban settings. The genres considered were Croatian pop, foreign pop, classical music, metal, and Balkan folk music, while on one road section there was no music. The research sample consisted of 61 participants (44 males and 17 females) with a mean age of 24.58 years and a mean driving experience of 5.25 years. The influence of music on the drivers' behaviour was analysed on the basis of the data collected from the driving simulator, eye tracking glasses, and structured observation during driving sessions. It was found that the highest average speed (around 60 km/h) was recorded while the participants were listening to Balkan folk and metal music, while other music genres, as well as the "no music" condition, influenced driving speed in a similar way to one another and the participants drove at 50 km/h on average. Furthermore, the results suggest that the music genre also affects how drivers visually scan the environment (the number of gazes classified as fixations and number of road signs looked at). The findings obtained may be used in road safety work and practical recommendations and further research are discussed.

Analysis of Speed and Social-Psychology Factors of Speeding Behaviour on Drivers in Dki Jakarta

Journal of Indonesia Road Safety

Increased vehicle speed will affect the increase in reaction time and distance to stop and the increased possibility of errors that can be done by the driver. The most common cause of accidents faced by many countries is a high speed and exceeding permitted limits because they contribute to the problem of the number and number of fatalities of accident victims. Setting the maximum speed limit can reduce the risk of accidents. The higher the speed, the greater the stop distance needed, and the risk of accidents increases.

Music Distraction among Young Drivers: Analysis by Gender and Experience

Journal of Advanced Transportation, 2020

e aim of this study was to quantify the probability of committing a speed infraction by young drivers and to investigate to what extent listening music could affect young drivers' emotions as well as their driving performances at the wheel. To achieve this aim, employing Bayesian networks, the study analysed different music styles, in which they resulted in sample drivers' speed infractions. Gender and drivers' experiences at the wheel were the other factors, which were taken into account when interpreting the study results. Variables taken into account in this study included type of music whilst driving, gender of drivers, and drivers' driving experiences. ese variables further incorporated into the study of other telemetric variables including acceleration, number of revolutions per minute (RPM) of the engine, brake, traffic, and other types of infractions other than speed, which were considered as dependent variables. A driving simulator was used, and different driving simulation studies were carried out with young people aged between 20 and 28 years. Each participant carried out three simulations by listening to different type of music in each journey. e study defined a conceptual model in which the data were analysed and evaluated mathematically through Bayesian networks. A sensitivity analysis was performed to evaluate the influence of music on driving speed. Based on the different variables, the study further analysed the probability of speed infractions committed by drivers and their adequate speed. e range of frequency probabilities varied between 96.32% (which corresponds to experienced male drivers who do not listen to music) and 79.38% (which corresponds to less-experienced female drivers who listen to music), which resulted in their happiness or aggression.
