The conceptual revolutions of our century give us a glimpse of a new, interesting and stimulating path: a path along which students can study physics as a personal, profoundly exciting experience. It is the path of the "game of models", of the "game of building worlds": a way to get out of the alternative between mathematics as a platonic structure of the world and mathematics as a pure tool inside a pragmatic approach to knowledge.

Alexandre Koyré wrote that Newton and the science that followed led to a splitting of the world: on the one hand is the “world of qualities and of sensible perceptions”, on the other is the “world of quantities and of reified geometry”. A comparison between facts held true by common sense and false by the scientific image of the world (or vice versa) seems to confirm this view. But is the dichotomy a real one? Is the world of common sense really “another world” relative to the world of the natural sciences? In this paper we argue in support of a negative answer.

Per capire i fenomeni complessi bisogna accettare che tra la causa e l’effetto ci possa essere una relazione circolare. È necessario entrare in una logica di circolarità non tautologica, di una circolarità capace di migliorare la nostra capacità di comprensione anziché intrappolarci in un circolo vizioso. Bisogna imparare a “nuotare” nella complessità, allenandosi a un pensiero più ricco e, appunto, più complesso. E il pensiero complesso è quello che riconosce le causalità complesse, che accetta e valorizza il ruolo dell'imprevisto e del caso, che articola tra loro molteplici punti di vista, che pensa anche se stesso pensante.
