Study on community structure of target reef fish at four tiny islands coral reefs in inner Kotania bay was conducted from September 2017 to February 2018. Underwater Visual Census method was used to collect and examine data concerning several parameters of target reef fish community structure. At least 18 families of target reef fish which consist of 37 genera and 105 species were found during the study. Good and excellent categories of coral reefs condition had higher species richness and individual abundance of target reef fish, while lower in fair category. Seven target reef fish species have a wide distribution, while other 15 species were limited. In general, target reef fish community at four tiny islands coral reefs had high species diversity and evenness indexes with low species dominance value. It can be concluded that target reef fish community in the area in stable or in steady state condition.
Community structure of reef fish in the southern waters of Ambon Island , eastern Indonesia

Ambon Island is one of the islands in Maluku Province which is well known for a long time for its beautiful sea scenery, being surrounded by coral reef which has variety of fish. This research was conducted in the southern waters of Ambon Island on November 2015 to study the community structure of reef fish. Data of reef fish were collected by using underwater visual census at coastal waters of seven villages namely Hutumuri, Rotong, Leahari, Hukurila, Seri, Pintu Kota and Latuhalat/Namalatu. Totally, there were 23155 individuals of reef fish found during the study with total density of 4.87 ind m. Shannon diversity index (H’), Simpson dominance index (D) and Shannon Evenness index (E) were 3.86, 0.06 and 0.68, respectively. Based on those indexes, it can be concluded that reef fish community in the southern waters of Ambon Island had high diversity, low dominance and stable condition.
Reef Fish Diversity in Jayapura City, Indonesia: A Preliminary Study

As one of the marine areas included in the world's Coral Triangle region, Yos Sudarso Bay have a potential reef fish diversity that needs to be studied. However, there is very little information about reef fish diversity in these waters to date. This study aims to determine the species diversity of reef fish in Yos Sudarso Bay, Jayapura City, Indonesia. The study was conducted in April 2020 at seven sites; six of them located inside the Yos Sudarso Bay and one more located outside the bay. Sampling was carried out using the Underwater Visual Census method (25 m long and 5 m wide). Relative abundance by species, and diversity (H´), evenness (E), and dominance (C) indices were calculated. A total of 1,075 individual reef fish was recorded in seven study sites, representing 122 species and 26 families. Locations showed differences in reef fish abundance (86 to 215 individuals/125 m 2), diversity (H´= 2.462 to 3.358), evenness (E = 0.770 to 0.887), and dominance (C = 0.047 to 0.155). This study has provided preliminary information on species diversity, fish abundance, and the ecological index of reef fish in Yos Sudarso Bay, Jayapura City.
Temporal of reef fish communities in the coastal water of Krueng Raya, Aceh Besar Regency, Indonesia

Krueng Raya waters have a big potency on coral reef fish; However, there was no study was conducted to document this biodiversity. This data are crucial for the conservation plan. Therefore, the objective of the study was to examine the community structure of reef fish in the Krueng Raya coastal waters, Mesjid Raya Subdistrict, Aceh Besar, Indonesia. The sampling was conducted from January 2014 to December 2016. The data were collected at three stations by the Visual Census method with a depth of 3-4 meters. The research found the average amount of reef fish was 1743 individuals that were consisted of 93 species and comprised of 26 families. The Families dominating were Pomacentridae, Acanthuridae, Chaetodontidae, and Labridae. The ecosystem of coral reefs is a fundamental process for marine resources playing an important role in supporting the lives of various aquatic organisms, with coral reef fish being one of the main dependent sea animals. The current study was purposely undertaken to assess coral reef fish biodiversity and its association with coral coverage on Halang Melingkau Island, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. This research was conducted in April 2019 on Halang Melingkau Island, Kotabaru, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. The research was carried out at 6 stations with 18 observation points that were considered to be representative of the conditions of coral reefs and coral reef fish in the waters of the island. The field observation method was applied by laying down 50-meter line transects (line intercept transects) and using visual census (underwater visual census) to obtain data concerning fish and coral populations. The findings indicated that the average coral reef coverage in Halang Melingkau Island was moderate (33.77%) , and it was remarkable that station 6 had the best coral reef coverage (53.71%). Additionally, station 6 possessed the highest fish population as well as the highest number of fish species. Findings of the present study predict that correlation analysis indicated a strong positive correlation between coral coverage and the abundance of coral reef fish. In this essence, when the coral coverage increases, the coral reef fish abundance would also increase. Assessing fish community structure at two different coral reef depths around Seribu Islands, Jakarta

Coral reefs structure play important roles for reef fish assemblages. Coral coverage and reef fish abundance are associated with the positive relationship. However, the relationship between reef fish abundance and composition and depth variation around Pramuka Island is poorly known. This study was carried out to investigate the biodiversity and the trophic level of fish communities between two different depths (3 and 10 m) around Pramuka Island regions (Pramuka Island and Sekati Island). The hard coral at the depth of 10 m within both study sites in Pramuka island held significantly higher percent cover than the depth of 3 m except in Dock 2 A total of 2620 individual fishes were counted, belonging to 58 species and 13 families. The fish community in 3 and 10 depth was dominated by omnivorous fishes. The multivariate analysis of fish abundance using the Bray Curtis similarity index and non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) clearly showed the clustering of two different depths. The NMDS results showed that at the depth of 10 m are more clustered than 3 m depth. The present study results showed that the biodiversity of reef fishes around Pramuka Island seemed to be linked to the hard coral condition and depth.

The Mahakam Delta represents one of the largest tropical deltas in Indonesia located at Kutai Kartanegara, Kalimantan Island and it is heavily affected by sedimentation processes that impact the coral reef habitats. The reef-building corals and reef-inhabiting fish have a mutually symbiotic relationship, with corals providing food and habitat while depending on the grazing by certain fish for reproductive success. This research aims to investigate the coral reef condition and also the community structure of the reef fish in the Mahakam Delta. This study was conducted in July 2018, in Muara Ilu, Mahakam Delta. Dynamics of fish diversity across an environmental gradient in the Seribu Islands reefs off Jakarta

The reefs of Seribu Islands have been affected by multitude of anthropogenic pressures. However, the biodiversity of reef fishes across the archipelago linked to environmental condition is poorly known. This study aimed to investigate the biodiversity and the trophic level of fish communities across the archipelago. The study on reef fish communities was conducted on 33 reef sites associated with islands or shoal randomly chosen from each zone along environmental gradients from the inshore water nearest of Jakarta Bay to the offshore water of the outer islands. The study sites represented each sub-districts within the archipelago, namely Pari, Tidung, Panggang, Kelapa, and Harapan. A total of 46,263 individual fishes were counted, belonging to 216 species and 29 families. The multivariate analysis of fish abundance using the Bray Curtis similarity index and non-metric multidimensional scaling (MDS) clearly showed the clustering of sub-districts, near and far from Jakarta Bay. The results showed that the sub-districts can be clustered into three groups. Group one consists of one sub-district (Pari) located in the southern part of the Seribu Islands near Jakarta Bay. Group two consists of three subdistricts (Tidung, Panggang, Kelapa) located in mid of the archipelago. The third group consists of one sub-district (Harapan) located in the northern part of the Seribu Islands. Based on species richness and fish diversity indices, the sub-districts can be clustered into two groups (1 = Pari and Tidung, 2 = Panggang Kelapa, Harapan). However, levels of similarities among sub-districts varied. The fish community in sub-district of Pari was dominated by carnivorous, omnivorous and herbivorous fishes, while those in the rest of subdistricts were dominated by omnivorous and carnivorous fishes. The present study results showed that the biodiversity of reef fishes across the Seribu Islands seemed to be linked to the environmental conditions.

Indonesia has abundant underwater natural resources, including coral reefs. Among coral reef ecosystems, reef fish make an important contribution to supporting the sustainability of underwater life. The more diverse reef fish in an ecosystem, it shows the healthier the condition of the coral reef ecosystem. The objective of the study was to investigate the diversity of the reef fish community including abundance, diversity, evenness, and dominance index in Ulee Kareung waters, Simpang Mamplam Sub-district, Bireuen District, Indonesia. We used a visual census technique (VCT)-belt transect by using a 50-meter transect and 3 times repetition at three observation stations. The composition and diversity of coral reef fishes play an essential role in the ecosystem (Mumby et al. 2004). Runtuboi et al. (2018) explained that the condition of coral reefs determines reef fish composition and diversity. In the coral reef ecosystem, reef fishes are the most abundant organisms (Nybakken 1982). The high diversity of reef fishes impacts various and complex habitats in the coral reef ecosystem. Therefore, the reef fish diversity is an important indicator of the health level of coral reef ecosystems (Adrim et al. 2012; Hourigan et al. 1988). Bell and Galzin (1984) also explained that changes in the diversity of reef fish communities could indicate changes in the ecosystem. Coral reef ecosystems positively correlate with reef fish diversity (Bengen 2013; Marshel and Mumby 2015). Besides playing an essential role as an environmental health indicator, the existence of reef fish is also a source of livelihood for the community living on the coast and small islands. Reef fish diversity will help accumulate more ecological service capital (eco-service capital) and is also used to evaluate the various impacts of human activities on ecosystem function (Eduardo et al. 2018; Palumbi et al. 2009; Paulangan et al. 2019). Reef fish is one of the aquatic organisms that correlates significantly in the coral reef ecosystem. There is an excellent coral reef ecosystem that can increase reef fish production.
