A comparative study of job satisfaction in public and private school teachers at secondary level

The present study was conducted to investigate a comparative study of job satisfaction in public and private school teachers. 'Job satisfaction' refers to the attitudes and feelings people have about their work. Positive and favorable attitudes towards the job indicate job satisfaction. Negative and unfavorable attitudes towards the job indicate job dissatisfaction. Researches support that teacher's job satisfaction has been found one of the very important variable related to positive teaching behavior toward their job. There has also been considerable interest in the complex relationship between an individual's job satisfaction and satisfaction with other aspects of his or her life. It was hypothesized that a comparative study of job satisfaction in public and private school teachers. To test this hypothesis the researcher conducted this study to investigate the sense of teacher's job satisfaction. For this purpose the researcher developed a questionnaire of 25 items and 5 options. A sample of 150 public and private school teachers was conveniently selected for the study. Data analysis was conducted through 't-test' and 'ANOVA' Which shoed that there is no significance difference between teacher's job satisfaction in public and private schools.

Job Satisfaction and Performance of Elementary School Teachers in Southern Papua, Indonesia

The high level of elementary school teacher absenteeism in Papua in general and in Southern Papua in particular has greatly impacted on teachers’ performance in educating students. In this point, the elementary school students’ inability in mastering basic reading, writing, and arithmetic (3-Rs) should be attributed to the low performance of elementary school teachers of Southern Papua, both inside and outside the classroom. As the researchers have widely identified the job satisfaction as one of the most predicting factors for the job performance, this study seeks to examine the job satisfaction and its eventual effects on job performance of teachers in elementary schools of Southern Papua. A survey approach was used to attain this goal. To collect the data, two types of Indonesian language version of questionnaire were distributed to a total of 1062 informants. In order that all the questionnaire were completely filled up and returned in 100% response rate by the informants, we employed a face-to-face method by asking the consent of each informant to fill-up the questionnaire and returned it directly to our team. Applying the simple linear regression analysis as a tool for analyzing data, the result showed that the coefficient value of R2 is .089 and the ρ value is .000. It inferred that 8.9 % of the job performance of elementary school teachers within the area of Southern Papua, Indonesia, is significantly positively predicted by their personal satisfaction. Though the predicting value of the job satisfaction on the performance of teachers was categorized low (8.9 %), finding of this study may be imperative for the school principals to enhance teachers’ job performance in the elementary schools of Southern Papua by promoting their job satisfaction. Finding of this study may supposedly enlarge the existing knowledge on the job satisfaction and performance of teachers by providing an empirical proof from the Southern Papua context

Teachers' Job Satisfaction: A Study of Private Schools in Kanakai Municipality

The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the determinants that affect private schoolteachers' job satisfaction. This study was conducted at three private schools of Surunga in Kanakai Municipality. The instrument used for data collection was a questionnaire and unstructured interviews of private schools' teachers. The findings of the study revealed that some participant teachers in Surunga perceived teaching as their ideal profession but most of them were engaged in the teaching profession because of the prevalence of private schools in their neighborhoods and lack of employment alternatives. Also, teachers report dissatisfaction about delays in salary payment and most of the teachers are also dissatisfied with available job benefits and security in their chosen profession. A Comparative Analysis Of Job Satisfaction Among Tecahers Of Private And Government Schools Of Aj&K

Education is one of the biggest elements of change and development for any nation. The core objective of education is the productivity of developed, skillful and trained human resources which can be used to reduce the issues related to the development of any country. For attaining this objective, it is the need of the hour to make work places more satisfying for employees. Satisfied workers can put hundred percent of their efforts, commitment and potential which leads towards the productivity. This study is quantitative survey design and a close ended questionnaire is used to collect data. Independent sample t-test was applied to correctly compare the level of job satisfaction of private and government school teachers. And it is analyzed that the teachers of private and government schools are satisfied with their jobs with respect to the internal factors and external factors like achievement, responsibility showed significant difference in the level of job satisfaction of private and government school teachers and Government school teachers are more satisfied than the private school teachers with respect to these factors. They are satisfied with their jobs in most of the areas. But still there is need to enhance some of the areas of job to further increase the job satisfaction and for the enhancement of the teaching learning process.

A Study of Factors Influencing Public Sector Secondary School Teachers’ Job Satisfaction

This paper attempted to analyze government secondary school teachers' level of job satisfaction and to identify factors that lead towards dissatisfaction among teachers. The study was descriptive in nature. Survey method was used to collect data from teachers. The population of the study comprised of government secondary school teachers. By using convenient sampling technique, 343 secondary school teachers were selected keeping in view male, female, rural urban locations of schools. 'Teachers Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS)' was used to collect data.The reliability of JSS of the total scale was found 0.87 on Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient. Data were analysed in SPSS version 16. The findings of the study suggested that: teachers were satisfied with their monthly salary, fringe benefits and administrative support provided to them. Regarding school policy, the overall mean score suggested that teachers were moderately satisfied with school policies and goals. The data further revealed that teachers were not satisfied with opportunities for promotion and professional development. In order to boost the level of motivation and satisfaction of teachers the study has made several recommendations for teachers and other stakeholders.

A Study of Job Satisfaction of Secondary School Teachers

Job satisfaction has always been a question mark and in debate by the researchers since long. It gained much importance due to its significance for the achievement of objectives of any organization. The purpose of this study was to explore job satisfaction of secondary school teachers working in the secondary schools at district Sahiwal, the Punjab, Pakistan. The sample of 200 secondary school teachers were taken randomly from district Sahiwal for this research study. The response rate was 100%. In order to collect required data for the study, the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ) was used as a tool. The SPSS-15 (evaluation version) was used to analyze the obtained data. Mean score of twenty dimensions were calculated and t-test was also applied for the sake of comparison of job satisfaction of male-female and urban-rural teachers. The findings show that the secondary school teachers were slightly satisfied with the basic eight dimensions (out of twenty) of a job i.e. ability utilization, advancement, education policies, independence, compensation, creativity, recognition and working condition. There was a significant difference of job satisfaction between male and female secondary school teachers. However no significant difference was found between the job satisfaction of urban and rural teachers. Thus, it is important to overcome the problem in order to give maximum job satisfaction to teachers.

Job Satisfaction Survey: a Confirmatory Factor Analysis based on Secondary School Teachers’ Sample

Despite a number of studies in the field of job satisfaction, there are still some problematic areas left. A question, which still lacks explanation, is whether specific sample may be evaluated using instruments which were primarily developed based on a different type of a sample than the one under research. With regard to the problematic area, we generated the purpose for our research. The purpose of the present study is to examine Job Satisfaction Survey’s (JSS) relevance for estimation of job satisfaction in teacher population. Results of the standard Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the teachers’ sample did not support the existence of 9 facets, suggesting that some of the JSS’s scales do not reflect teachers’ job satisfaction. The best model in the present study was determined to be a three facet model, including promotion, supervision and nature of work. Job Satisfaction and Performance of School Teachers

Teaching is a highly noble profession and teachers are always a boon to the society. The ultimate process of education could be simplified as a meaningful interaction between the teacher and the taught. The teacher thus plays a direct and crucial role in moulding a pupil towards education. Since a teacher is a role model for the students, job satisfaction and eventually performance of teachers become very vital in the fields of education. Thus the researcher felt the need to investigate the job satisfaction and performance of teachers in different categories of schools following different systems of education. From the total population, a sample of 196 teachers from state board schools, 198 teachers from matriculation board schools and 194 teachers from central board schools were drawn. The results of the study indicated that teachers in central board schools were significantly better in their job satisfaction and performance compared to their counterparts in matriculation and state board schools. This may be attributed to the fact that central board school teachers enjoy better infrastructure facilities and congenial working environment than the matriculation and state board teachers. It is for the school authorities, policy makers and society at large to ensure factors contributing to job satisfaction of teachers to the maximum possible extent and thereby enhancing their teaching perforrmance to its optimum.
