Presuppositions of (Human Movement) Science

Pensar en Movimiento: Revista de Ciencias del Ejercicio y la Salud

This paper argues that science, human movement science included, proceeds from many presuppositions. First, it explains what sorts of things presuppositions are. Next, it argues that science proceeds from metaphysical, epistemic, and normative presuppositions. The argument entails that neither scientism nor Naturalism is a presupposition of science.

Human Movement [Journal] 2021 final

The science of human movement is the study of how people move in different situations as well as of the factors that are associated with the analysis, improvement and recovery from physical activity. In this area of study the focus is on issues encountered in physical activity in everyday life, related to work and leisure time, as well as recreational and top-level sports. Man is a living organism that has inherited not only a systematic body structure but also a motor behaviour pattern and with the understanding of these motor patterns we can classify each motor act, identify the basic similarities and differences that take place in specific situations. In order to achieve this objective we have to apply interdisciplinary approach and utilize knowledge from other fields namely physics (mechanics), musculo-skeletal anatomy and neuromuscular physiology as well as involvement of joints and their actions. Human body is a very complex system and it is related to both biological and mechanical laws and principles. The efficiency and effectiveness of movement depends upon both biological as well as mechanical aspects and functions because they are directly related to physical performance. The human body in many respects can be described as a machine and it has to follow the conventional laws of mechanics while performing different movements. Therefore, in order to meaningfully and effectively study and understand the basic human movements the underlying basic principles and concepts that are applicable must be known and well understood. Different postures and motions assumed by the human body are very difficult to simulate since the human body has so many interrelated muscles that help in creating movements. These movements are affected by factors such as muscular strength, fatigue, general health and even the state of mind of the individual. Therefore it is important to understand the concept of efficient human movement so that energy can be preserved and utilized for many other human movement tasks that an individual performs as a part of his/her normal life. dr. Jewelson M Santos President, International Association of physical Education and Sports (IAPES) MaSSage It is with great pride, enthusiasm, and anticipation that I invite you to read the inaugural issue of the International Edited Ebook-"Human Movement". An enormous amount of work has gone into the development of this Ebook and I believe you will see that effort reflected in this edition and in the impact it will have on the field. As we look at International Edited Ebook, it is important to keep in mind that it represents the collective thinking of a group of innovative individuals with whom I am privileged to work. First, we want International Edited Ebook to be the premier academic ebook for scholastic work. We want it to look different, to be different, to be one Ebook that, will be as dynamic as the work going on in our disciplines, a rarity in academic publishing. International Edited Ebook intends to be a leader in facilitating a new kind of discussion and collaborative work. Transformation and moving forward in a time of Pandemic. Our endeavor will be no different. Human Movement Science is the study of how people move in different contexts and of the factors related to the analysis, improvement, and recovery of physical activity. Focus is on issues encountered in physical activity in everyday life, related to work and free time, as well as recreational and top-level sports. Human movement is studied from an interdisciplinary perspective that combines and integrates aspects from social, natural, and health sciences concerning physical activity. Fundamental fields such as anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, motor control, psychology, and epidemiology, are viewed in relation to performance ability and exercise. Focus is placed on individuals and groups at different levels of skill, age, and fitness. Knowledge about both individual and collective skills is taught on the basis of both theories and the results of empirical research. International Edited Ebook will be innovative, providing a venue for scholarly works. Researchers and community partners will be an integral part of the Ebook, as they are in this first edition, a role that will expand as together we find imaginative ways to engage each other. In this inaugural issue of the Internal Edited Ebook you will find an array of works, representing some of the various works. On behalf of the International Edited Ebook staff, I must thank the Ebook Editor-in-Chief Dr. Kishore Mukhopadhyay, for his hard work and dedication in the field of Physical Education and Sports. Finally, I want to thank researchers and community members. They make reciprocity a reality. They allow us into their lives and in so doing they teach and transform us and vice versa. I look forward to our journey together as we develop the International Edited Ebook to its fullest potential.

Introduction to Human movement science

Physics consists in identifying repeatable sequences in our environment and finding the simplest underlying laws. In this book, the environment is Sports and it pursues two main objectives: - Walk in the footprints of modern precursors, JB Keller [1] and B.Benjamin [2] and show that sports do entangle a large number of physical concepts which can be used to improve our understanding of athletes’ performances. - Show that sports can be an important vector for the presentation of advanced physical concepts. As a striking example, the quantum tunnel effect which is discussed in this volume and compared to the high jumper who clears the bar while always maintaining his centre of mass below the bar. In order to make links and establish the generic laws in different sports, the book is structured in six Physics domains: Waves and Fluids, Aerodynamics, Elasticity, Friction, Statistical Physics and Human motion.

PreFaCe Human Movement Science provides knowledge regarding how people move effectively in different situations and the factors that are related to performance analysis and procedures that guarantee proper recovery after a tiring activity. Emphasis is on specific problems encountered while performing physical activity by an individual in everyday life, including tasks associated with work and leisure time activities, as well as tasks providing fun and recreation and also putting up good performance in different sports. Human movement involves interdisciplinary approach that combines and integrates knowledge from social, natural and health sciences associated with physical activity. This area of study incorporates knowledge from such fundamental fields as Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and Biomechanics, Motor Control, Psychology, Epidemiology and many more in relation to good and efficient performance during exercise and performance in sports. Knowledge from all these subjects is pooled together so that efficient performance can be ensured. In the recently concluded Olympic Games held at Tokyo only those sports persons have excelled who had acquired mastery of the skill and fully utilized knowledge from all the scientific disciplines listed above. Therefore there is a dire need that experts in all the above disciplines should work along with the coaches at all levels so that new performance targets are set for performance enhancement. During the formative years of potential sports person's inputs from sports scientists from different branches should be fully utilized. I would appeal to physical education teachers and coaches as well as sports scientists to come on a common platform and work together so that performance of our sports persons could be enhanced further. dr. Jewelson M Santos Chairman, International Association of physical Education and Sports (IAPES) Incorporates MeSSaGe This year promises many exciting developments for the International Edited Ebook. The recently released it's first issue entitled Human Movement. It marks a milestone for research enthusiast and scholars to pursue publication of their works. Moreover, the number of interesting topics included on the Ebook has a robust rise as articles enjoy increasingly broad dissemination. Congratulations to all of our authors for achieving this distinction. This year the issue of the Ebook brings even more pioneering research content. Original studies that follow address a variety of significant Physical Education and Sports Science topics in international and national arena, including organizational advancement, theories, and randomized controlled trials of an empowerment program and intrapartum, physical functioning among athletes and risks among adolescents. Disseminating the findings of studies to researchers who are constantly striving to improve the quality of their studies remains an important function of the Ebook. I believe that our efforts will certainly inspire our researcher and authors to continue their academic and professional activities and give us new horizon for the betterment of our profession. With Best Wishes
