An Occupational Profile of People Injured in Accidents at Work in the Polish Construction Industry
Procedia Engineering, 2017
The construction industry in Poland and in the world is characterized by a high level of threat to the life and health of workers. In accident processes, a man exists in a triple role, namely: a decision maker, a perpetrator of an accident and a victim. Statistical data published by the Central Statistical Office regarding the causes of accidents indicates that human causes account for around 60% of all reported cases. Identification of the factors affecting the accident rate and also the direct causes of accidents is the first step in determining the directions of preventive action. The aim of the research conducted by the authors of this article is to present the occupational characteristics of people injured in accidents at work in the Polish construction industry. The article presents the results obtained from the analysis of occupational accidents that occurred in the years 2008-2014 in five voivodships of Poland, namely: Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Slaskie, Lubelskie, Dolnoslaskie and Lubuskie. The paper identifies and examines the impact of the following characteristics: the employment status of a victim, occupation, age, length of service, preparation of the employee to perform duties at a workplace and the size of an enterprise in which the accident took place. 485 occupational accidents were analysed, 37% of which were fatal accidents, 61% were severe, and 2% were light.
Situation Regarding Accidents at Work in the European Union and in the Republic of Macedonia 1-4
a free-access multidisciplinary publication of the Faculty of Engineering Hunedoara 1. Abstract: In this paper, some of the statistical indicators which refer to serious and fatal accidents at work in the European Union (EU-28) and in the Republic Macedonia are presented. The performed statistical analysis shows that the number of serious and fatal accidents at work in EU-28 and in the Republic Macedonia, in 2012 was decreased in comparison with 2008. Nevertheless, the Republic of Macedonia has high incidence rate for fatal accidents at work compared to highly develop European countries. The activities of public administration and defense, construction, manufacturing, transportation and storage sector and the activities of households as employers are the economic sectors in which it is possible to prevent injuries caused by serious accidents at work. Тhe activities of households as employers, construction sector, transportation and storage sector and agriculture, forestry and fishin...

The paper presents analysis of selected factors that generate the costs of accidents at work using the Polish construction industry as an example. The individual components of the cost of accidents have been identified. Using the statistical data published by the Central Statistical Office, the impact on the size of the cost of accidents at work of such factors as the lost time of an injured person, the lost time of other people involved in the removal of accident effects and also material losses caused by an accident, was analysed. On the basis of the conducted analysis, conclusions regarding economic losses due to accidents were formulated.

Introduction. The objective of the paper was to present the results of an analysis of road accidents in professional drivers in Poland, from the point of view of their age, tenure, accident causes and effects in relation to the time of the accidents they were involved in. Method. Data were obtained from a database of the Central Statistical Office. Accidents recorded in statistical accident cards from 6 consecutive years were analysed. Results. The overall number of injured professional drivers generally decreased over the 6 years, except for the last year of the period when the tendency to fatal and severe accidents between 23:00 and 6:59 increased. The highest percentage of fatal and severe accidents was found between 23:00 and 6:59 and was caused by medical emergencies and unsafe behaviour. The tenure of 70.89% of the injured drivers was under 10 years. Drivers who had worked for over 20 years had fewest injuries between 23:00 and 6:59. Conclusion. The results of the analysis may be used in changing work schedules to reduce the accident risk of the occupational groups at greatest risk. accidents injury professional drivers causes effects time of accidents
Analysis of Workplace Accidents in Automotive Repair Workshops in Spain
Keywords: accident automotive maintenance injury occupational safety workshop a b s t r a c t Background: To analyze the effects of the factors associated with different types of injury (superficial wounds, dislocations and sprains, bone fractures, concussion and internal injuries, burns scalding and freezing) caused by occupational accidents in automotive repair workshops. Methods: Study of a sample consisting of 89,954 industry accidents reported from 2003 to 2008. Odds ratios were calculated with a 95% confidence interval. Results: Belonging to a small company is a risk factor for suffering three of the five types of injury studied. Women are less likely to suffer burns and superficial wounds, and more likely to suffer dislocations or sprains. Foreign workers are more likely to suffer concussion and internal injuries. Conclusion: Health and safety strategies and accident prevention measures should be individualized and adapted to the type of worker most likely to be injured in each type of accident. Occupational health and safety training courses designed according to worker profile, and improving the participation of the workers in small firms creating regional or roving safety representatives would improve working conditions.

This study aims to analyse the occupationaliaccidents in the Republic of North Macedonia as a “lower-middle-income economy” during the period 2014-2019. In line with the theoretical findings and other similar state cases, the available data, and the subsequent analysis there of demonstrate that North Macedonia possesses a workplace environment that is more vulnerable than that of other countries when it comes to occupational accidents. The case of North Macedonia indeed provides a prominent example of change in the national economy and legal framework, while exhibiting certain deficiencies, common to “lower-middle-income” economies that could potentially be improved or eliminated.
Underlying Factors of Occupational Accidents: The Case of Turkey
Open Journal of Safety Science and Technology, 2016
An average of 80 thousand occupational accidents occurs each year in Turkey and 1500 workers are lost their lives. In accordance to "policy of preventive approach", many legal arrangements have been made in Turkey. In this context, weight to issues such as risk assessment and preventive OHS services is given; however, employee training, employee participation, labour inspect, and periodic checks in working areas such as maintenance and audit have not been achieved. The level of implementation of legal arrangements was inadequate. Research was carried out to determine the significance rate of the factors that cause accidents in 5 sectors with the highest number of occupational accidents in Turkey. Questionnaires administered to experienced safety specialists were reviewed by analyzing with the fuzzy TOPSIS method. According to the results, especially in the construction and coal mining sectors and all sectors in general, employee training, employee participation and periodic maintenance in the workplace are more important accident prevention factors than risk assessment and preventive OH & S services. It is seen that for the prevention of accidents, all measures should be implemented by systematic and by a multidisciplinary approach.
Evaluation of Occupational Accidents’ Statistics in Turkey
Society of Economic Geologists and Mineral Technologists (SEGMITE), 2023
: In this work, the statistics of occupational accidents occurring in Turkey were evaluated by using SSI (Social Security Institution of Turkey) statistics between 2007-2021 and the European Union (EU) Statistical Office (EUROSTAT) data between 2011-2020. Additionally, this has been evaluated by comparing the statistics of occupational accidents in the European Union (EU) countries and Turkey, and it is observed that the measures taken to prevent fatal occupational accidents are not at a sufficient level compared to EU countries. However, the improvement in the occupational accident severity rate provided by the legal regulations made in 2012 indicates that more favorable working environments can be provided in the long run.
Analyzing the risks of accidents and occupational diseases from the perspective of the work system
New Trends in Sustainable Business and Consumption
The field of occupational safety and health is focused on identifying the risks of occupational injury or illness and applying measures to reduce them until they are eliminated. Occupational risks of occupational injury or illness from the point of view of occupational safety and health are present in all areas of activity. It is true that the magnitude of the risk is directly influenced by the degree of danger of the processes that take place in that field of activity and the probability with which they occur. Over time it has developed several forms of occupational risk analysis as a dimension. In this way, events leading to accidents or occupational diseases or to the environment can be better understood. In order to be able to measure the extent of the occupational risk of occupational injury or illness, assessment methods are used that quantify the occupational risk. The main purpose of the research study is to analyze the risks of accidents and occupational diseases taking into account the four elements of the work system: performer, means of production, production environment and workload. Following the assessment of the risks of occupational injury or improvement, managers receive information on the presence of occupational risks present in the organization, as well as the evolution of these risks when there are changes in production processes. These changes are due to changes in materials, manufacturing processes, legislative changes, upgrades, technological or environmental accidents, conversions or upgrades of production lines. The importance of the research study is represented by the identification and assessment of the risks of occupational injury and illness from the point of view of occupational safety that enter into the economic equation. Thus, we appreciate that the economic interest must not take precedence over considerations related to safety at work.
