Relationship of Kinematic Variables with the Performance of Basketballplayers in Lay-Up Shot

Citius Altius Fortius, 2009

The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between selected kinematic variables and performance of lay-up shots. Five (N=5) male basketball players who represented Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, were selected as subjects for the study. The help of digital photography was used to film the subjects in sagittal plane of lay-up shot. Joint point method was used in order to obtain the values of selected angular kinematic variables from developed stick figures. Height of center of Gravity was calculated by segmentation method. The performance in Lay-Up Shot was recorded by the scores in Lay-Up Shot, which was obtained by using a three point scale by the three judges. To determine the degree of relationship between selected kinematic variables with the performance in Layup Shot, Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Method was used. The results have shown the insignificant values of coefficient of correlation incase of all the selected kinematic variables and significant relationship between the height of center of gravity at the moment of release with the performance of the subjects in lay-up shots.

Key Kinematic Components for Optimal Basketball Free Throw Shooting Performance

Central European Journal of Sport Sciences and Medicine, 2021

The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in five kinematic variables (internal knee and elbow angles, elbow height, forearm angle from vertical, and shoulder flexion angle at ball release) between proficient and non-proficient free throw shooters and which variables had the greatest contributions to a successful free throw shooting outcome. Seventeen male basketball players shoot three sets of 10 free throws with a two-minute break between each set. A three-dimensional motion tracking system composed of 17 sensors sampling at 60 Hz was used for data collection. Proficient free throw shooters had greater knee and elbow flexion, lower elbow height, and a smaller forearm angle compared to non-proficient shooters. These results explained 89.5% of the total variance. While maintaining the optimal range of these kinematic variables allows each subject to reach an appropriate level of free throw shooting performance, the key variable capable of distinguishing between made and missed shots within the proficient group of shooters was the forearm angle. Positioning the forearm parallel, or close to parallel, with an imaginary vertical line during the preparatory phase of the shooting motion accounted for 23.9% of the total variance and was associated with a greater number of made shots.

Kinematic Parameters of Jump Shot in Elite Male Basketball Players

Facta Universitatis, Series: Physical Education and Sport

The primary aim of this study was to determine kinematic parameters of jump shot in elite male basketball players, by analyzing the release time for shooting, the angle of entry, and ball spin and. The secondary aim of this study was to examine possible differences in these kinematic parameters among the players associated with their playing position. Eighteen male basketball players (7 guards, 8 forwards, 3 centers) from six Serbian senior teams were tested. 94Fifty basketball sensor was used to obtain the following kinematic parameters of jump shot). The highest average measured values of shot release time were found in centres (1.23±0.23 s) and the lowest in guards (1.07±0.28 s), although these differences were not statistically significant. Further, centres had a lower angle of entry (36.6±2.08°) than guards (40.54±4.76°) and forwards (42.05±3.77°). The highest value of backspin was obtained by forwards (130±11.91 rotations / min). There were no significant differences between g...

Kinematic Differences Between Proficient and Non-Proficient Free Throw Shooters – Video Analysis

Journal of Applied Sports Sciences, 2021

Despite its importance and signifi cant contribution to the fi nal game outcome, the free throw shooting motion is greatly understudied. The purpose of this study was to examine kinematic differences between profi cient and non-profi cient free throw shooters and to determine which variables have the greatest impact on successful free throw shooting performance. Thirteen healthy recreationally active males volunteered to participate in this study. Each participant shot three sets of ten consecutive free throws from the regulation distance from the basket. Each set was performed under 3 minutes with 1-2-minute rest between each set. A high-defi nition camera recording at 30 fps captured the free throw shooting motion from a sagittal point of view. Video analysis software was used to analyze the following kinematic variables: knee angle, elbow angle, hip fl exion, ankle fl exion, release angle, shoulder angle, hand release height, and elbow height. The fi ndings of this study suggest that lower elbow positioning infl uenced by greater knee, ankle, and hip fl exion during the preparatory phase of the shooting motion may lead to improvements in free throw shooting accuracy. Moreover, greater ball release height and release angle, as previously suggested, could decrease the margin of error and enhance free throw shooting performance. By using these kinematic variables to create the discriminant function projection model, it is plausible that profi cient free throw shooters can be accurately classifi ed in 94% of cases.

Proceedings of the 1st International Conference on Education Social Sciences and Humanities (ICESSHum 2019), 2019

Basketball game is decided by the most point counted from successful shooting. Moreover, free throw is one of many shooting techniques which is frequently used in basketball game. So, the aims of this research are reviewing the ball trajectory direction to find the formula to increase possibility of successful shooting and decrease shooting error possibility. This is a quantitative study with independent t-test data analysis by SPSS. There are 73 male college physical education students(age : 20  1.2 years) who were categorized based on their height in to 5 groups. Each of them tried to make 3 successful free throw. The result, there are significant different of ball direction, launching angle, maximum elevation, and ball velocity among different height group (< 0.05). In the conclusion, the launching angle and maximum elevation among different height group has different characteristic. However, the ball direction and velocity have more similarities among different height group.
