The study investigated the use of Internet by staff for library service delivery at Benue State University, Makurdi. Three specific objectives with corresponding research questions guided the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population for the study was the entire 153 library staff in Benue State University Library. Since the population was relatively small and manageable by the researcher, no sampling was employed for the study. The instrument for data collection was a structure questionnaire Data was collected and analyzed using frequency counts, percentages, mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions. Findings of the study revealed that the internet services are utilized in areas such as acquisition services, cataloguing and classification services, awareness services, reference services, selective dissemination of information services, inter-library loan services, documentary services, circulation services, bibliographic services and resource sharing. The findings also revealed that, the internet services were utilized to a high extent for library services delivery. Challenges found to hinder the utilization of the internet services include: lack of maintenance culture, erratic power supply, high cost of connectivity, high cost of maintenance, technology obsolescence, low level of computer literacy required for effective use, poor funding for internet services, low bandwidth, copyright and access restrictions and inadequate hardware support. The study concluded that, Internet services are to a high extent utilized for effective library services delivery in Benue State Library. The following recommendations were made that, library administrators should ensure professional development programmes are provided for library staff that can inculcate computer literacy required for delivery of library services and Government should provide funds to the management of academic libraries to acquire internet services necessary for enhancing the effective delivery of library services.

This paper examined the awareness and use of Web 2.0 technologies by library and information professionals (LIPs) in selected libraries in Southwest Nigeria. Descriptive survey was adopted for this study. The sample size comprised of 230 library and information professionals from the population of 310 from 39 selected university and special libraries in Southwest Nigeria. Data was collected through questionnaire and analyzed using the descriptive statistics of frequency and simple percentage scores. The findings indicated high level of awareness of the existence of Web 2.0 technologies among library and information professionals and that only few were not aware of the existence of these technologies due to lack of publicity. The types of Web 2.0 technologies used are social networking tools (facebook, Twitter, Hi5, LinkedIn); Instant messaging; Blogs and Wikis. The major challenges to the use of Web 2.0 technologies included low bandwidth, time constraint, inadequate training, and lack of funds to undergo training, inadequate power supply and lack of web 2.0 skills. It was therefore recommended that the hands-on training should be increased while all relevant stakeholders like the Nigerian Library Association, Library schools, Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria, libraries, etc should assist in creating more awareness on the use and benefits of Web 2.0 technologies.
Internet has greater impact on education; particularly, higher education library by creating and promoting virtual learning environments, Learners thus formulate their virtual communities and interact freely with each other they can exchange their learning experiences, research findings and academic opportunities. The Internet revolution is not just limited to finding information but also to fostering relationships that bring people together. Internet has many functions in library include storehouse of information, communication without boundaries, online interactive learning, electronic/online research, innovation in the new world, improve interest in learning, global education, and Information catalogues. This paper has conducted survey on internet and its utilization among the Staff and student of Nuhu Bamalli Politechnic Library, Zaria Kaduna-Nigeria. Recommendations for functional use of Internet in Nuhu Bamalli Politechnic Library, Zaria Kaduna-Nigeria have also been given.

The paper looked at the level of awareness of e-resources and utilization by librarians of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Nigeria. The adoption of e-resources has changed the way the daily routine work is carried out by the librarians to accomplish a variety of functions in the libraries. The instrument used for data collection is a questionnaire which was administered by the researcher to all the 16 professional librarians of the university. The 16 copies of the questionnaire were returned and found usable. The completed questionnaire was analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. Finding from the study revealed that majority of the respondents attested to the availability of internet/e-mail facilities as the most e-resources used by the librarians. Challenges against the usage of electronic resources by librarian were categorized. Recurrent power outages with (38%) topping the list, followed by limited bandwidth (25%), insufficient fund (19%), and inability to download information (12%), and network problems (06%).Furthermore, the e-resources were use for more than one purpose: for in-house official duty and information services to the patrons. This study investigated Access to Electronic Resources by Librarians in University Libraries in Niger Delta Region, Nigeria. The descriptive research design was adopted for this study using 73 items self-structured questionnaire to collect data. In selecting the university libraries, the researcher applied the stratified random sampling technique to select the universities. One hundred and fifty (150) librarians were selected from three (3) centrally located states which include Delta, Bayelsa, and Edo from the nine (9) Niger Delta States from a target population of four hundred and thirty-two (432) librarians. seven research questions were formulated to guide the study. A reliability coefficient index of 0.87 was obtained from the instrument using Cronbach's Alpha Guttman splithalf Coefficient. Additionally, it was strongly recommended that Institution's authorities and governments should provider internet, ICT facilities for all to enjoy free flow for effective and efficient access to e-resources.
With the advent of information and communication technologies (ICT), college libraries struggle to maintain credibility in the provision of library materials for research, teaching and learning through the acceptance and use of information technology. This study therefore investigated the factors influencing the use of ICT by library personnel in Colleges in Oyo and Osun states, Nigeria. The study adopted the descriptive survey design. A population of 240 was selected for the study. Total enumeration (census) sampling was used to select the sample of 240. 240 Questionnaire was administered to the library personnel and 193 questionnaires were retrieved giving a response rate of 80.4%. The study revealed that various ICT facilities were readily available in the selected libraries; that the level of ICT literacy among the library personnel in the selected academic libraries was mostly excellent in the areas like computers, internet, telephone, and scanners. However there were various factors affecting the use of ICT by library personnel in the selected academic libraries, which are shortage of ICT professionals, inadequate funding, and inadequate power supply and obsolesce of ICT facilities. The study concluded that shortage of trained ICT professionals and funding are crucial factors affecting the use of ICT. The study recommended among other recommendation that relevant ICT literacy education should be embedded in the training of library personnel in college libraries; library managers can meet with management to reach a power supply agreement with the power holding company, in terms of the number of hours of power supply during library hours and the rest hours can be supplemented with inverters or generating set.
Internet services in a young private university library in Nigeria
The study was aimed at investigating the purposesfor which students at Redeemer's University use the Virtual Library. A survey research method W(]l:li' adopted for the study using a two part questionnaire to elicit necessary information from the sample. Two hundred students participated in the study but only 117 returned questionnaires were useful and these consisted of 72 males and 45females. Findings revealed that email (70%) was the most widely used services and was closely followed by the WWW (64%). Academic purpose (81 %) was the main reason for using the Virtual Library by the respondents. The study recommended that a controlled environment would improve the use of/he Virtual Libraryfor academic purposes.
The study surveyed Information and Communications Technology (ICT) use in libraries: a plus or minus to academic libraries in Nigeria? The specific objectives of the article were to analyze the present state of academic libraries in Nigeria, briefly articulate the concept of ICT, level of ICT presence in Nigerian academic libraries, aspects/areas where ICTs are applied in academic libraries, benefits and the minuses concept of ICT and finally, the way forward. The study adopted the literature review method by randomly reviewing related articles on the topic and making a generalization based on available literature. In the end, the study revealed that ICT has positive and negative effects on Nigerian academic libraries, ICTs are introduced for various routines in academic libraries, some librarians in academic libraries engage in activities against the ethics of libraries with regards to ICT, despite questionable ways of using ICT by some librarians, ICT remains a repositioning force in academic libraries in Nigeria amongst others.

This study provides an overview on issues and challenges of utilization of information and communication technology resources in federal university libraries in South- South Nigeria. In carrying out this study three research questions were posed A descriptive design was used for the study. The population of the study comprises of 108 librarians. 108 Questionnaires was distributed and 93(86%) were completed and returned. Observation checklist was also used to verify the ICT resources available in the libraries under study. In analyzing the data obtained, frequency counts, simple percentage, and mean score were used as the statistical methods. The major findings of the study revealed that fax (facsimile), projector screen and digital camera were not available out of others ICT resources available in the libraries.
