Cholesterol in the blood is a form of sterol derived from a lipid molecule that serves as the main structural component of plasma membrane. Atherosclerosis is a change characterized by thickening of the arterial walls due to the accumulation of cholesterol in the intima of blood vessels. By using SPSS analysis, it was found that the Shapiro-Wilk Normality Test with a sig value > 0.05, the data were normally distributed. The results of the analysis in the Test of Homogeneity of Variences table obtained a Sig Value 0.106. This the value of Sig = 0.106 > 0.05, them ho is accept. Thus the ethanol extract of ginger, pandan leaves, citronella, cinnamon, has the potential to reduce cholesterol levels. By using four different doses, the rat group at a dose 100mg/kgbw showed cholesterol levels of 90,75(mg/dl) ± 11,58, the rat group at a dose 200mg/kgbw showed cholesterol levels of 95,5(mg/dl) ± 6,80, the rat group at a dose 300mg/kgbw showed cholesterol levels of 75,75 (mg/dl)± 2,06, t...
Effect of Extract Ginger (Zingiber Officinale L) on Hyperglycemic Rat Liver Glycogen Levels
2017
Backgrounds : This study aims to prove the effect of ginger extract on rat liver glycogen levels in hyperglycemic Methods : The design of this study is the post-test only control group design with independent variables (free) include a high-fat diet, injections of streptozotocin, the ethanol extract of ginger doses of 300, 400, 500 mg / kg and the dependent variable (dependent) include blood glucose levels ( GTTO II), glycogen levels Results : Based on this study, the results of different test GTTO end shows significant differences between negative control group and a positive control, a positive control and P1. Besides, also, there is a significant difference between P1 to P2. This suggests that, dosing higher ginger extract can increase the amount of glycogen levels to near normal Conclusion : Effect of ginger extract on levels of glycogen in the liver of mice were exposed to a high-fat diet and STZ Keywords : High Fat Diet, STZ, Ginger Extract, liver glycogen levels

Dyslipidemia is condition of high level of Total Cholesterol and Triglyceride because of metabolic dysfunction. Ginger (Zingiber Officinale) is traditional spices that can be used for lowering Total Cholesterol levels and Triglyceride levels. Ginger contain Flavonoids molecule that can be used for lowering Cholesterol and Triglyceride by inhibits function of HMG-CoA reductation enzyme activity. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of water fractination from ginger on Total Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels on an old male mice that fed by high fat food. Laboratory experimental research used old male mice (45-49 weeks) that are divided into 5 groups. Group I was given ginger fraction 19,9 mg/20grBW/Day, Group II was given ginger fraction 39,8 mg/20grBW/Day, Group III was given ginger fraction 79,6 mg/20grBW/Day, positive control group was given standard food and fraction solvent , and negative control group was given high fat food and fraction solvent. This study using analysis of one way annova. The mean Total cholesterol rate after study was: 133 mg/dL; 111 mg/dL; 103 mg/dL; 118,67 mg/dL; 130,5 mg/dL. The mean Triglyceride rate after study was: 116 mg/dL; 113 mg/dL; 108 mg/dL; 147,33 mg/dL; 205,5 mg/dL. Measurement of Total Cholesterol was related but not significance (p>0,05) Measurement of Triglyceride was related and significance (p<0,05) between group that treated and the control. The result of this study shows that there was an effect from ginger for lowering Total Cholesterol and Triglyceride levels with fraction 79,6 mg/20grBW/Day .

The increase in side effects due to the use of chemical drugs encourages people to return to nature, utilize the plants around them in dealing with health problems. Red ginger (Z. officinale Var Rubrum) and elephant ginger (Z. officinale var Roscoe) have been used empirically in medicine especially to boost immunity. This study aims to determine the tonic activity of the ethanol extract of red ginger and elephant ginger in vivo using the natatary exhaustin method with white rats (Rattus norvegicus) as test animals. The natural fatigue method was based on the resistance of the test animals to swimming in water after being treated with ethanol extract of red ginger and elephant ginger rhizome at a dose of 70 mg/kg body weight, using Na-CMC solution as a blank and caffeine solution as a positive comparison. Based on research data testing the tonic activity of red ginger and elephant ginger extracts in vivo showed that the tonic activity of red ginger ethanol extract with the swimming e...

Abstract: Hypercholesterolemia is a major risk factor of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Lowering total cholesterol level is one of main treatment strategy of CVD. Pharmacological treatment of CVD causes a side effects and financial burden on individuals and families. This study aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of citrus leaves (Citrus aurantifolia Swingle) on lowering total cholesterol level in hypercholesterolemic mice. This research was true experimental using random allocation sampling group design. Samples were 30 mice with swiss webster strain were divided into 5 groups: normal control, negative control, concentration 1.75g/kg, concentration 3.5g/kg, and concentration 7g/kg of ethanol extract of citrus leaves . Total cholesterol level measurements was done after the adaptation period, after 14 days were induced to be hypercholesterolemia, and after 14 days administration treated . Data were analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test, the results shows a significant differen...
Background. Physalis angulata L (ciplukan) studied as herbal medicine has extensive influence in the body and show a positive effect on the function of the thyroid gland. Objective. This study examined the effect of ciplukan ethanol extract (CEE) to decrease Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) induced propylthiouracil (PTU) in rats. Method. This experimental randomized pre test post test control design used 49 male 3-6 months wistar rats with average body weight of 200±60 grams. Group divided into seven: (+) control group with thyrax 0.009 mg/kgBW, (-) control group with no intervension, P1:CEE 0.1 g/kgBW, P2:0.2 g/kgBW, P3:0.4 g/ kgBW, P4:0.8 g/kgBW, and P5:1.6 g/kgBW interventions for 6 weeks. Data analyzed by anova, paired samples T test, and ancova. Results. The (+) control group P1, P2, P3, P4, P5 groups decreased its TSH level in reference range. Ancova statistical test showed that TSH levels decreased after intervention was influenced by levels of TSH and variations of treatmen...
