An enumeration of lichens from the Bageshwar district of Kumaun Himalaya, Uttarakhand, India
The paper, lists 361 species of lichens belonging to 89 genera and 35 families from the Bageshwar district of Uttarakhand. The study is based on the published literature and specimens in the herbarium of National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow (LWG). Dhakuri and Khati areas, situated between 2683 2210 m have the highest diversity of lichens represented by 215 and 172 species, respectively. Lichen, families Parmeliaceae with 23 genera and Physciaceae with 8 genera are the dominant families in the district. Among the different lichen genera, Cladonia with 22 species and Heterodermia with 18 species exhibit their dominance in the area. Trees bear a luxuriant growth of lichens and particularly Quercus, Pinus, Alnus and Cedrus exhibit the maximum diversity of epiphytic lichens in the district.
New addition to the Lichen flora of Uttarakhand, India
2016
The present paper revealed the occurrence of nine lichen species from Uttarakhand for the first time. The species belong to six families (Cladoniaceae, Lecanoraceae, Parmeliaceae, Peltigeraceae, Physciaceae, Verrucariaceae) and represents four growth forms of lichens found growing on soil, rock and soil over rock. Brief moropho-taxonomic details of all the nine species have been provided with their ecology and distribution.
New records of lichens from foothills of Kumaun Himalayas to the lichen flora of Uttarakhand, India
Tropical Plant Research, 2016
The paper presents an enumeration of seven lichen species as addition to the lichen flora of foothills of Kumaun Himalayas, Uttarakhand. The enumerated species belong to six genera and six families. The explored area showed dominance of crustose lichens while only two foliose and a single leprose species was recorded. A morpho-taxonomic note together with ecology and distribution of all the recorded lichen species as new addition to lichen flora of Uttarakhand is provided.
Diversity of lichen flora of Odisha, India- A review
Studies in Fungi, 2016
Based on the compilation of literature on lichens of Odisha (India) and other specimens and preserved in herbaria, we estimate that 252 species of lichens, belonging to 81 genera and 35 families are known from the state. Graphidaceae with 49 species is the dominant family, followed by Arthoniaceae (21), Pyrenulaceae (19), Parmeliaceae (18), Trypetheliaceae (17), Physciaceae (15), Teloschistaceae (14), Lecanoraceae (13), Pertusariaceae (12), Ramalinaceae (11), Caliciaceae (11), Thelotremataceae (9) and Lecidiaceae (4). Among the lichen genera Graphis is dominant with 27 species, followed by Pyrenula (16), Caloplaca (14), Pertusaria (12), Lecanora (10), Parmotrema (9), Cryptothecia (9) and Pyxine (6). Accounts of lichens are only available from 13 out of 30 districts. Of these only cursory collections from 10 districts are available, whereas Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda and Ganjam districts are well-explored for their lichen flora. The present enumeration of more than 250 species clearly indicates a rich diversity of lichens for the state. Further exploration in other unexplored districts will add more species to the lichen flora of the state.
Diversity and Distribution of Lichens in India vis a vis its Lichenogeographic Regions
National Academy of Biological Science, 2014
Undoubtedly, India is one of the lichen diversity hotspots, where country as a whole with diverse climate, vegetation and topography provide numerous habitats for luxuriant growth of lichens. The compilation of all the lichens reported so far from the country resulted in 2428 lichen taxa which belong to 2368 species, 305 genus and 67 species. With the present data whole country could be divided into eight lichenogeographic regions where Eastern Himalaya and North-east India, and Western Ghats possessed maximum diversity of lichens with 1144 and 1138 species respectively. However, Western Ghats harbors maximum number of 266 endemic taxa in comparison to Eastern Himalayan region (187 taxa). Andaman and Nicobar Islands though lesser number of species the percentage of endemic taxa is too high up to 27%. The country also has as many as 76 rare taxa which are not being collected since many years and can be included under Redlist category. Graphidaceae with 431 species 35 genus is the most dominant family in the country, and in tu3rn Graphis is the most dominant genus with 115 taxa. The maximum numbers of lichen in India belong to crustose group (1509 taxa) and found inhabiting bark. The current study apart from revealing the diversity of lichens in India and its lichenogeogrpahic regions it also ex-
An assessment of lichen diversity from Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, India
International J. Plant and Environment , 2020
A total of 70 species of lichens belonging to 29 genera and 15 families were found growing in eight different localities of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The present study reveals the addition of 14 species of lichens as new to the state. The lichen genus Lecanora with 11 species exhibits the dominance in the area. Among the different localities of the district the area Sikandra Dhar showed maximum diversity of lichens followed by Balh valley, Barot and Mandi city as 19, 18, 17 and 16 species, respectively. The tropical zone exhibits luxuriant growth of trees like Pinus, Shorea robusta, Prunus, Celtis, Grewia and Rubina. The Rubina and Populus trees cultivated along road side bear luxuriant growth of Candelaria concolor together with Physcia dilatata, a foliose lichen. The temperate region of the district exhibits luxuriant growth of Quercus leucotricophora trees which support the luxuriant growth of Parmotrema nilgherrense, Ramalina conduplicans, Ramalina sinensis, Heterodermia diademata and Usnea species.

Lichen Diversity Assessment of Darma Valley, Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand
2018
The Himalaya recognized for its biodiversity owing varied landscape and vegetation, provides luxuriant growth of lichens. Various geographical regions were explored for lichens study but till date, many alpine meadows are unexplored condition in this regard. The present study focused on lichen diversity of an alpine/sub temperate regions of Darma valley, Pithoragarh district and providing an inventory of 90 species of lichens belonging 54 genera and 21 families. The Rhizocarpon distinctum is being reported for the first time as new to Uttarakhand, previously this species was reported from Maharashtra
New additions to the lichen flora of Jammu and Kashmir state (India)
2016
Jammu & Kashmir is a Himalayan state of India which exhibits large altitudinal variation and thus houses good lichen diversity in it. Rajouri is one of the border districts of state, situated in the lap of Pir Panjal mountain range and was not well explored in the point of view of lichen diversity. Thus the present study was conducted to explore the lichen diversity from this remote district. The study revealed addition of 12 new records of lichen species for the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The reported species belongs to 11 genera of nine families.
Lichen diversity of Padder Valley Kishtwar (J), India
Journal of Applied and Natural Science
Lichens are one of the most successful group of organisms and form an important aspect of biodiversity of any region. But still lichens are under explored in most of regions. The present work has been carried out in Padder Valley, Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). A thorough survey of the lichen diversity from all the possible habitats was conducted in the study area which indicated the presence of 110 species belonging to 54 genera and 23 families. Parmiliaceae has been recorded as the largest family (16 genera, 27 species) and is followed by Physciaceae (8 genera, 14 species). Four families have been observed to be monotypic. Lecanora has been recorded as dominant genera with 7 species followed by Peltigera with 5 species. Corticolous was most preferred substratum exhibited by 61 species while foliose was the most dominant type of growth form represented by 52 species. The study has added 94 lichen taxa as new records for district Kishtwar and is first of its kind in Padder Vall...
