Abstract: This paper reports the use of podcasts in blended-learning at the University of Minho, in Portugal. Six lecturers created their own podcasts with different purposes in order to support their undergraduate and graduate courses and their students' (n=318) learning. The reported study belongs to a broader project about the impact of podcasts in blended-learning and it reports data from two semesters. Results give evidence of students' acceptance regarding podcasts although they do not yet make use of the advantages of media and mobile technologies. The lecturers considered podcasts worthwhile for teaching and for students to learn, but they are time-consuming and there is no institutional recognition. In spite of this, they intend to continue using podcasts in their courses.

Digital pedagogy has become an increasingly viable, popular and effective component of higher education teaching and learning at Edith Cowan University and elsewhere. Components of digital pedagogy are diverse with new examples, such as podcasts, regularly being created, released for use and adopted in educational, recreational and business contexts. Consequently, university students use much of this technology both in their employment and recreational lives. This study explored processes of using and developing the students' existing technological skills within their university studies. This paper documents the processes and findings of a collaborative research project that was implemented across six units of study during two semesters in an undergraduate teacher education course. During this period, podcasts were produced and broadcast to purposely increase student reflection and involvement in their own learning processes. These podcasts included question and answer sessions, teacherstudent and student-student conversations, lecture presentations, summaries and reviews. Students were provided with opportunities to contribute to and nominate the content of these podcasts. Data were gathered and analysed from both the students' and the teachers' perspective about the perceived effectiveness of podcasts. Findings from this data were considered especially in terms of the value-adding nature of podcasts in undergraduate courses to better engage students. Finally, the research study's results will be compared with findings from other recent studies using podcasts for educational purposes.

Podcast as a potential didactic resource for practice and teacher formation 1
Ensino em Re-vista, 2021
The article brings three researches that complement each other. One marked by an analysis of state of the art situation around educational podcasts, a second research characterized by an experiment carried out in a class of pedagogy course of the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL) and, finally, an evaluation of the perspectives of future teachers regarding the advantages and disadvantages of using this technological tool in their learning, as well as the willingness to use podcasts in their future teaching performances. The research shows that the volume of theses and dissertations aimed at the use of educational podcasts is still reduced, although the potentialities highlighted by these works are numerous, evidencing the importance of greater investments in the theme and dissemination of successful practices. From the experiment it was noticed that the podcasts enhanced the learning of future teachers, as well as awakened them to the possibilities of their use in their future teaching practices.
Methods of Investigating the Use of Podcasting in Higher Education: A Review of Recent Studies
International Journal of Computer Applications, 2015
The high mobile penetration levels and the emergence of Web 2.0 technologies that include Wikis, Blogs, Podcasts, Screen cast, and Google Tools etc provide academic institutions with an opportunity to address some of the challenges they are facing in the provision of quality education given the ever increasing enrolment numbers. It is also important to note that the use of m-learning tools, if correctly conceptualized and built, constitutes an efficient complementary tool to the traditional teaching methods. The study reviewed journal articles with a view to examining the methods used in the investigating the adoption of podcasting in Higher Education. It was found that most studies were in the form of Action Research which either took an interpretive or positivist approach with the choice being guided by the objectives of the study. The review also points out to the need for orientation on use of podcasting at initial stages of its implementation.
Investigating the use of podcasts in an open, distance and e-learning environment
Perspectives in Education, 2020
In a world where the podcast stands out as one of the important support technologies for online learning, lecturers face great challenges in delivering podcasts qualitatively and productively. The introduction of technology into distance teaching and learning has often failed to meet the expected outcomes, and the educational landscape contains evidence of students who have been unable to benefit from this particular innovation (Dede, 2008). The increasing importance of the podcast as a support technology for online learning has led to intense discussions about how to preserve and enhance its use for all kinds of expected student knowledge. Therefore, this paper aimed to explore the types of podcasts that lecturers at an open, distance and e-learning (ODeL) institution use for teaching and learning. The focus was to explore the practices of the lecturers in the use of podcasts for teaching and learning in an ODeL institution. From 200 participants, a total of 431 podcast scripts (ge...
The educational potential of the podcast
Proceedings of the Seventh International Conference on Technological Ecosystems for Enhancing Multiculturality
This research work addresses the educational potential of the podcast, an emerging digital communications medium. This audio format brings together producers and listeners (broadcasters and users) through very specific contents. In effect, it permits sharing and broadening knowledge of a subject, together with the construction of learning communities. Consequently, the research focus is based on educommunication, an interdisciplinary field combining communications and education. The main aim of the work is an in-depth study of the educational potential of podcasting. The hypothesis is that its educational nature is beneficial to everyone, schoolchildren and adults. The research is proposed from a qualitative perspective; it combines several different methods such as content analysis, interviews and case studies so as to obtain innovative results. It is hoped that this research will contribute knowledge in order to improve the educational potential of podcasting, a useful tool in the full development of people and communities.
