Recently, the Internet relies on a core suite of IP routing protocols. This paper examines the characteristics of important routing protocols in a performance network. Any router in the network needs help with routing protocols. Those deferred types of routing protocols used in networks such as Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (IGRP), Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP), and Routing Information Protocol (RIP). All transmitted data through the internet between the source and the destination need to be routed using one of the routing protocols. Choosing the appropriate routing protocol by scanning protocols depends on the type of network applications and a number of parameters (i.e. traffic sent and traffic received). A Comparative Study of Routing Protocols
This paper is focus on the different routing protocols used for routing in computer network. A routing protocol is a protocol that specifies how routers communicate with each other, disseminating information that enables them to select routes between any two nodes on a computer network, the choice of the route being done by routing algorithms. Each router has a priori knowledge only of networks attached to it directly. A routing protocol shares this information first among immediate neighbours, and then throughout the network. Study and Performance of Interior Gateway IP routing Protocols

Large IP networks cannot be possible without routing protocols providing the appropriate paths between end sites. Many interior gateway routing protocols have been developed based on well known algorithms for IP networks in order to prevent routing loops. Some of these interior gateway routing protocols are RIP, OSPF and EIGRP. Each one of them has its benefits and drawbacks, and the best election depends on many parameters such as the network features, network hardware, few bandwidth wastage, scalability, costs, etc. In this paper we present a survey and a test performance of the main interior gateway IP routing protocols (although some of them can work with other non-IP protocols) that are used inside the Autonomous Systems. We will see which one provides the lowest delay path, the lowest number of hops, the lowest convergence time, and how the traffic sent through the network have different behavior depending on the routing protocol running in it, among others. Finally, we will conclude our paper providing some advises to the IP network designers and administrators. The information obtained from another router, by the routing protocol, is used to create and maintain the routing tables. In a network topology for forwarding packets various routing protocols are being used. Routers maintain a routing table for successful delivery of the packets from the source node to the correct destined node. The extent of information stored by a router about the network depends on the algorithm it follows. Most of the popular routing algorithms used are RIP, OSPF, IGRP and EIGRP. Here in this paper we are analyzing the performance of these very algorithms on the basis of the cost of delivery, amount of overhead on each router, number of updates needed, failure recovery, delay encountered and resultant throughput of the system. We are trying to find out which protocol suits the best for the network and through a thorough analysis we have tried to find the pros and cons of each protocol.

Abstract. A Quality of Service (QoS) routing protocol for the Differentiated Services framework is being developed at the University of Coimbra (UC-QoSR). The main contribution of this paper is the evaluation of the protocol in wide area networks concerning traffic performance and protocol overhead. Many interesting QoS routing proposals have been proposed. However their evaluation has been conducted in majority by simulation.
Performance Analysis of Routing Protocols RIP, OSPF and EIGRP
In network topology, Various Routing Protocols are used in the Routers for transmission of packets. The popular dynamic routing algorithm used to forward packets are Routing Information Protocol(RIP), Open Shortest Path First(OSPF) and Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP). The main aim is to characterize the performance analysis of these routing protocols and Redistribution amid these routing protocols. The protocols are implemented and analyzed in GNS3 Software. For performance analysis in the network use Wireshark Application. The parameters analyzed are Convergence time, End to End Delay and Throughput. The way to communicate within the different routing protocols are showed in redistribution commands.

For end to end IP communication just having the forwarding path is not enough, it is necessary to have the reverse path as well to reach the network. If one can reach one host of one network it doesn"t mean one can reach all host of that network. For end to end IP communication router should have route to reach all networks. Initially router has only the route to reach directly connected networks. Router can learn the route of the other network by two processes: Statically and Dynamically. In static Routing protocol the best path selection is done by AD value and in dynamic Routing protocol the best path selection is done through Metric Value. Static Routing protocol is used where it is a simple architecture while dynamic routing protocol is used where complexity increases. It is not advisable to use Dynamic Routing Protocol for simple architecture as processing power is high when we make dynamic entries. In this paper we proposed the use of some specified protocols according to the classification. The emphasis of this paper is not to present protocols in detail but to present main features of wide variety of different protocols depending upon their requirements.

In a computer network, the transmission of data is based on the routing protocol which selects the best routes between any two nodes. Different types of routing protocols are applied to specific network environment. Three typical types of routing protocol are chosen as the simulation samples: RIP, OSPF and EIGRP. RIP (Routing Information Protocol) is one of the oldest routing protocols still in service. Hop count is the metric that RIP uses and the hop limit limits the network size that RIP can support. OSPF (Open Shortest Path First) is the most widely used IGP (Interior Gateway Protocol) large enterprise networks. OSPF is based on the Shortest Path First (SPF) algorithm which is used to calculate the shortest path to each node. EIGRP Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) is Cisco's proprietary routing protocol based on Diffusing Update Algorithm. EIGRP has the fastest router convergence among the three protocols we are testing. More detailed description of these three routing protocols is included.
