SELF-TRAINING IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF PROFESSIONAL SKILLS IN NURSING STUDENTS (Atena Editora), 2022
Introduction: Currently, self-directed learning is a key skill for learning in the field of nursing, being a tool that allows the development of professional skills in nursing students. Objective: To analyze current scientific evidence about the influence of self-directed learning on the development of professional competences of nursing students. Methodology: The research was carried out in the B-On search engine, using the descriptors “self-directed learning”, “nursing students”, “professional competences” and “learning methodology”. Inclusion criteria are based on articles published in academic and scientific journals, peer-reviewed, free access, published between 2017 and 2022 and with full text available in portuguese and english. Exclusion criteria are based on duplicate articles and those that didn’t meet the inclusion criteria. 8 articles were selected for full reading. Results: Most of the articles verified the importance of self-directed learning in the training of nursing students, its advantages and influence on the development of professional skills. Furthermore, other analyzed studies demonstrated the importance of a teacher in the development of this learning method. Conclusion: Self-directed learning is an essential tool in the development of professional skills in nursing students, which can be influenced by several modifiable and non-modifiable factors.

BACKGROUND: Evaluating clinical performance is a challenge in nursing education. On the other hand, a single evaluation method cannot be used to judge different areas of interpersonal skills. Therefore, this study was conducted to compare the evaluation of teachers', peer, and self-evaluation of nursing students in the psychiatric ward of Baharan Hospital affiliated to Zahedan University of Medical Sciences. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this analytical cross-sectional study, forty trainee students were selected by a census method in a time period and they were evaluated by three methods including self-, peer, and teachers' evaluation. Their clinical skills were assessed using a school-based clinical evaluation questionnaire containing 15 questions in the areas of taking history, examination of psychiatric health, and the ability to communicate with the patient. The analyses were performed by SPSS-22 software. RESULTS: The mean and standard deviation of the evaluation scores of clinical teachers as well as peer and self-evaluation in the areas of taking patient's history were 13.

Evaluation of effectiveness of training of nursing professionals: a correlational study
Aiming to evaluate the professional training programs, this study wants to evaluate the effectiveness of training about contact precautionary steps, run to nursing professional. This is a correlational design research. The material of analysis is composed by the pre-and post-training learning evaluations (n=248), performed in the University Hospital of the São Paulo University, which were submitted to a descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. This study was approved by the Ethics in Research Committee of the institution. The main results showed that, if compared the pre-and post-training periods, there was a significant rise on the post moment, of the average grade, in 10 out of 14 questions from the evaluation chart. Despite the fact the training was considered effective, it was observed there is a necessity to improve the diagnosing method of educational actions, as well as the evolution of a deeper evaluation methodology that embraces the observation of the results of training in assisting care.

Mental health is a vital and necessary component of health. Mental health promotion creates positive environments for the good mental health and wellbeing of populations. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the training program on promoting mental health of nursing students. Aquasi-experimental design was used. A convenience sample included 130 nursing students from the nursing program at Zagazig University were randomly assigned to intervention and control groups. Participants completed the Thai Defense Style Questionnaire 40 (DSQ-40) and Sense of Coherence Questionnaire (SOC-29). Prior to the implementation of training program, mean scores on both measures did not differ significantly between the intervention and control group. The article analyzes the andragogical approaches to the organization of educational activities in the process of postgraduate education of undergraduate training courses for nurses specialists, which are carried out by higher medical educational institutions. Andragogical approaches provide organization of educational process of practitioners of nursing in healthcare institutions on the basis of andragogical principles, the introduction of which contributes to the close interaction of theory and practice including the development of cognitive processes of the listener, development of his/her cognitive processes, which results in constant cultivation and growth of his/her personality, the ability to independently solve clinical predicted and non-standard situations, understanding the results of self-improvement through learning and systematic work on oneself; the desire for individualization and self-expression contributes to the growth of self-esteem, confidence in the performance of functional responsibilities, expands the forms of professional activity. Conclusions are made on the necessity of a pedagogical experiment with the purpose of further substantiation of theoretical and methodical foundations of professional skills development of nursing specialists in the system of postgraduate education, including the andragogical aspect, in order to analyze the data obtained, to develop mechanisms for the practical application of research results.

This study examines the need for, and outcomes of, a psychotherapeutic skills training programme, within an acute psychogeriatric unit. Nursing staff were surveyed to explore their training needs in psychotherapeutic skills with inpatients diagnosed with depressive, anxiety, or neurocognitive disorders. Staff were then invited to participate in a focus group (n = 6) to identify content of such training, possible barriers, and an implementation strategy. Next, to ascertain the feasibility and acceptability of such training, materials and schedules were developed and piloted with a small group of nurses (n = 8), before being administered to nurses across the unit (n = 23). Impacts of training on the confidence and competence of nurses to use such skills were investigated. Of nurses surveyed (n = 20), 80% wanted to use psychotherapeutic skills in routine practice, but only 35% had received training in such skills in the last 5 years. Focus group results identified that nurses wanted training in skills related to engaging patients, responding to resistance from patients, problem solving, reminiscence, relaxation, and cognitive behaviour therapy. Nurses who underwent the pilot training reported increases in confidence and competence in using such skills. These findings were replicated in the unit-wide training programme and were found to be durable across a 3-month follow-up period. This study highlighted the training needs of nurses working in an inpatient psychogeriatric setting, approaches to implementing new skills, and benefits of training for nurses' levels of confidence and competence in using psychotherapeutic skills.
Theoretical-practical and methodological approaches in Nursing education for mental health care

Objective: to identify theoretical-practical and methodological curricular activities in the training of nurses related to mental health education. Method: it is a documentary, descriptive and exploratory study, with a qualitative approach. It was developed in two Undergraduate Nursing Courses in a city in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, one of which is public and the other, private. Some discipline teaching plans were analyzed, according to documentary analysis. The data were collected in the second semester of 2018. Results: the theoretical-practical and methodological curricular activities related to mental health education are inserted in an articulated way with other knowledge fields.
