The current values and attitudes of Czech children

Dear colleagues and all the participants please allow me to shortly introduce some of the results of the research on children form Czech Republic, which represents the quality of their lives and the values and attitudes the children assume. The research team comprised of Mgr. Miroslav Bocan, Mgr. Hana Maříková, and Mgr. Adam Spálenský. I cooperated with the research team in a position of a professional consultant along with Mgr. Pavel Černý and Mgr. Jiří Zajíc. The main reason for my cooperation with the National Institute of Children and Youth was that you work in a group of both volunteer and paid workers, who have long been devoted to the children's interest activities and who realize, based on their experience, the current changes in the field of values and attitudes of our children. They also regularly consider and evaluate the changes and influences of wide social context that fall upon these values and attitudes they research. There was a total number of 2 238 participants, from whom 1 118 were boys, and the overall group was divided into three age categories (6-9, 10-12, 13-15). According to the Czech Statistical Office, the subject group was representative of the population. Further, the instruments were distributed by trained researchers and consisted of 39 items for children of younger age, and of 45 items for children of older age. Total number of 12 focus groups (103 respondents) followed the study, in order to concretize and provide additional information to the answers from the questionnaires. Not all the questions were answered by all the children, which is why we always present the real N=?XY.

VALUE-BASED EDUCATION: RESEARCH RESULTS Violeta Panev & Aneta Barakoska

Bulgarian Journal of Science & Education Policy, 2019

Values are a topic of multidisciplinary areas, elaborated by various scientific disciplines. The consequences of non-acquisition of human values are manifested in all spheres of social life. Therefore, they are important for research in the field of social sciences, and especially in the field of pedagogy , education and personal development. Given the importance of values in the development of pupils' personality, we conducted a survey in a large school in North Macedonia to examine the attitudes and opinions of teachers, pupils and school support staffs on the extent values are achieved in an elementar y school. The aim of this paper is to determine the dominant value orientations of the students and their attitudes towards certain social circumstances, practices and life experiences in terms of the conditions, possibilities and challenges of the socio-cultural ambiance of the contemporary Macedonian society. The survey included 200 participants which are students at “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” University in Skopje and University “St. Kliment Ohridski” in Bitola. The data derived from a Questionnaire developed within the project “Research on European Values of the Citizens of the Republic of Macedonia”. The analyses rely on students’ responses to questions relating to: the role and significance of certain social institutions; trust in other people, social groups and institutions; the satisfaction of one’s own life; desired goals in life; preferences in the use of leisure time; attitudes towards work, family, religiosity and social engagement; assessment of the living conditions in the country and the possibilities for a change; acceptance of different models of behavior and lifestyles; and their preference of certain ideological orientations. The results show that students in general tend to incline towards more traditional value systems. However, we identified some contradictions which indicate the existence of a clash in their value systems.

Value Preferences of Students of Hungarian Teacher Education

In our study we examine the value orientation of the students of Hungarian teacher education. We consider this subject a very important field of investigation for several reasons. Firstly, university students (as a youth sub-stratum) can be seen as a reference group for younger age groups (primarily for teenagers) which intensifies generational influence. Secondly, the value orientation of students qualified and employed as teachers is manifestly reflected in the educational processes. The empiric source of our examination was provided by a sampling carried out in 2011 in 19 faculties that are involved in teacher education (N=1211). Our attention was primarily focused on the internal patterns of the value system generated by gender, type of living place, the presence of pedagogic professions in the family, religiousness and the students’ inclination to work as teachers.
