Six Sigma Approach: Application, Benefits and Scope

Six Sigma is an approach that improves quality by analyzing data with statistics. In recent years there has been a significant increase in the use and development of the Six Sigma Approach This paper reviews some related literatures to describe application, benefits and scope. Understanding of the six sigma method allows organizations to better support their strategic directions, and increasing needs for coaching, mentoring, and training. The Six Sigma method is a complex and flexible system of achieving, maintaining and maximizing the business success. Six Sigma is based mainly on understanding the customer needs and expectation, and responsible approach to managing, improving and establishing new business, manufacturing and service processes.

Improvement of a Production Process with the Use of Six Sigma Methodology

Rigid and non-flexible production structures can no longer survive in a turbulent global market since they react on changes with significant time delay. To satisfy the needs and wishes of a customer, regarding the quality, quantity, price and delivery time, it is essential to make leap forward from functional (according to Taylor’ s principles) to process oriented organizational structures. During the last couple of decades many new approaches has been introduced to help in this leap. One of these approaches is Six sigma. Basics of Six sigma are presented in this paper with and its use in a real production process.

The Main Benefits of Application of Six Sigma for Productive Excellence

Purpose: The present paper addressed the application of the Six Sigma method for process management to reduce the variability and scrap of packages manufactured at a company located in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Methodology/Approach: Exploratory research was conducted to understand the context, analyse, and create familiarity with the problems identified in the company, making them more explicit. Findings: Through Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control (DMAIC) the company was able to identify the main causes of customer complaints and the factors that led to these complaints. Using management tools, it was possible to solve the problems with packaging outside the specifications, which was the reason for complaints from customers. The benefits of this research were the identification and analysis of the quality management tools. Research Limitation/Implication: The present research had as a limitation the application of the method is only one company, so it is proposed as a future study of the application in different production processes of different organizations. Originality/Value of paper: It was evidenced that there is a positive relationship between the application of Quality management methods and company billing, as there was an increase of 1.7% in company billing. In past surveys, new possibilities for improvement to be addressed emerged, making the team aware of the need to continue the process of continuous improvement.

In today's world when rivalry is gathering speed; profit maximization and consumer satisfaction have become the main targets of the enterprises. One of the most important methods affecting these targets of the enterprises is six sigma approach. This approach accepts the consumer as the focal point. Six Sigma approach is such a model that is adapted by various companies throughout the world due to its consumer-oriented approach and this model aims the continuation of company success. Six sigma aims to reach a perfect level by actualizing 3,4 error rate in one million productions. Six Sigma is a strategy using statistical methods to provide, measure, analyze, renovate and control optimal efficiency in business processes. Most important function of Six Sigma is to minimize the variables in the production process. This name of "Six Sigma" is given by Mikel Harry that the variability term is measured by standard deviation in statistics and standard deviation is symbolized by the "small sigma" symbol and six sigma approach requires to make the assessment by statistical techniques on behalf of managing and restructuring the business processes. Six Sigma is an optimization technique and its largest difference is to be a flexible system aiming to optimize both the performance and the managerial skill. The primary objection of Six Sigma is to minimize the errors and to actualize a quality level in the groove and its philosophy consists of the aims of reducing costs, increasing customer satisfaction, actualizing the optimization of business processes and increasing the efficiency of the employees. Six Sigma approach, with the most areas of application is observed in production sector is combined of the junction of the best and most successful sides of the previous methods.

THE ADVANCEMENT & EFFECT OF SIX SIGMA APPROACH IN A MODERN

Six Sigma has been well applied in manufacturing Industries through improving processes that use the DMAIC methodology. Some larger corporations have integrated Six Sigma so well into the corporate culture that it can be considered the DNA of the company. A number of successful cases have been reported of six-sigma-based management activities dramatically enhancing a company's strategic performance over study periods of several years. However there are number of case studies in the literature regarding Six Sigma, there is a lack of empirical studies that adopt statistical approaches. This study proposes a research model based on Six Sigma to test whether management activities improve corporate competitiveness. Empirical results showing that six sigma activities do indeed contribute to process management refreshment, quality improvement, and finally corporate competitiveness. In addition the possible changes and outcomes which occour by applying this concept of six sigma in various Industries. We hope that this study enables further rigorous studies investigating six sigma as a major strategic activity.

Six Sigma is a one of the most common used programs in production companies for reduce cost, improve productivity and provide a basis for goals improvement which leads to competitive advantage. Understanding the key Six Sigma factors (Total Quality Management, strong customer focus, data analysis tools, financial results and project management) allows organizations to better support their strategic directions focused on improving customer requirements through the improving of own business systems and operational performances. In this paper will be described a Six Sigma approach and presented results of the empiric research conducted in Croatian graphic companies. All findings of this empiric research will provide better understanding of Six Sigma benefits and graphic companies, but production companies will be able to guide business and production processes in right directions with minimizing inputs, maximizing outputs and satisfy owners, employees and customers.

The six sigma method is a project-driven management approach to improve the organization-s products, services, and processes by continually reducing defects in the organization. Understanding the key features, obstacles, and shortcomings of the six sigma method allows organizations to better support their strategic directions, and increasing needs for coaching, mentoring, and training. It also provides opportunities to better implement six sigma projects. The purpose of this paper is the survey of six sigma process and its impact on the organizational productivity. So I have studied key concepts , problem solving process of six sigmaas well as the survey of important fields such as: DMAIC, six sigma and productivity applied programme, and other advantages of six sigma. In the end of this paper, present research conclusions. (direct and positive relation between six sigma and productivity)

Six Sigma Methodology – Tool for Improving the Capability of the Production Process

Modern industrial production companies on a global scale over the past decade have been facing sectoral challenges in terms of competitiveness, reducing production costs and increasing the quality of products and services. This challenge is especially focused on investing in scientific, systematic models for development, monitoring and maintenance of production facilities, but always the main emphasis is on the sustainability of quality in the conditions of rapid expansion of the global market and automation of the industry. Topic in this paper is Six Sigma Methodology. Six Sigma is statistical methodology for normalizing process and a methodology that is data-driven and customer focused, highly disciplined process that help develop and deliver near perfect product and services. Results of research in this paper, the practical example, clearly show the importance of the sistematic analysis and usage of the Six Sigma methodology in the productive processes with DMAIC method for stabilization, improvement and reduction of standard deviation.

Six Sigma as a competitive strategy: Main applications, implementation areas and critical success factors (CSF)

Organization’s competitiveness and profitability are part of its main objectives, developing different strategies to position themselves as one of the best, being one of these strategies Six Sigma (SS), initially developed in processes of manufacturing to eliminate production and services defects. However, literature has reported various applications and areas of implementation of SS, such as the administrative area. The objective of this article is to present results obtained in literature review related to the SS strategy. The article begins with basic strategy definitions, followed by the main applications and implementation areas, additionally, an analysis of the critical success factors (CSF) is shown as a suggestion for those who wish to develop the strategy and improve the administrative processes. The CSF is: Management Support and Commitment, Relationship with Clients, Organizational Culture, Education and Training, Organizational Infrastructure and Communication.
