A Study On Energy Efficient Routing Protocols In Wireless Sensor Networks

A wireless sensor network (WSN) consists of low cost, low power, small in size and multi functional sensor nodes. Routing protocols in WSNs emphasize on data dissemination, limited battery power and bandwidth constraints in order to facilitate efficient working of the network, thereby increasing the lifetime of the network. Routing protocols in WSNs are also application specific which has led to the development of a variety of protocols. Based on the underlying network structure, routing techniques can be classified into three categories: data-centric, hierarchical and location based routing. WSN has a design trade-off between energy and communication overhead which forms the nerve center of the routing techniques. In this paper we present a survey of state-of-the-art routing techniques in WSNs under all the three categories. We epitomize these routing techniques and bring out the advantages and disadvantages followed by their application domain. The paper concludes with issues open for research.

This paper represents energy efficient routing protocols in WSN. It is a collection of sensor nodes with a set of limited Processor and limited memory unit embedded in it. Reliable routing of packets from the sensor node to its base station is the most important task for the networks. The routing protocols applied for the other networks cannot be used here due to its battery powered nodes This paper gives an overview of the different routing strategies used in wireless sensor networks and gives a brief working model of energy efficient routing protocols in WSN. It also shows the comparison of these different routing protocols based on metrics such as mobility support, stability, issues and latency.

A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF DIFFERENT ENERGY-EFFICIENT ROUTING PROTOCOLS IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS
The network of Sensor Nodes communicating in a wireless manner is referred to as Wireless Sensor Network. With the advent of time deployment of WSNs for real life application is greater than before. but still, the energy constraint remains one of the key issues and prevents the complete utilization of WSN technology. One of the solution is to have Clustering routing protocols as they reduces the transmission distance which results in less energy consumption and thereby increasing the life of the WSN. This paper presents review on some of the different Clustering routing protocols being used in WSN. Along with that some of the applications of WSNs are also listed.
A survey on various energy-efficient routing protocols in WSN
The applications and the role of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) in real-world encourage researchers to elaborate and explore more information about it. As we know a WSN consist of thousands of sensor nodes (static or mobile) which gather information from a specific region and then transmit its base station (static or mobile) with some mechanism. There are various protocols that are proposed to govern this communication in an effective way. But the challenges such as energy consumption, mobile sink scheduling, and data aggregation still need to improve. So that the lifetime of WSN can be extended. This paper cover and present a survey on some protocols and related research works for WSN challenges that improve the performance of the network.

Nowadays, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are dramatically becoming more popular and widely being used in variety of application like battlefield, medicals and several other areas because they are cheap in cost and have the ability to sense data irrespective of environment conditions. Routing in WSNs consumes the most of sensors nodes energy if we are able to make an energy conserving routing protocol then we will be able to conserve the considerable amount of energy which will enhance the Network lifetime.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a group of small power-constrained nodes that sense data and communicate it to the base station (BS). These nodes cover a vast region of interest (ROI) for several purposes according to the application need. The first challenge encountered in WSNs is how to cover the ROI perfectly and send the monitored data to the BS. Although the energy introduced during setup phase and the violation of energy fairness constraint of dynamic routing topologies, they achieve high network performance in terms of coverage and connectivity. In this paper, we categorize the applications of WSN based on different aspects to show the major protocol design issues. Thus, the energy efficiency of the recent proactive routing protocols is studied from different angles. The energy overhead and energy fairness of each protocol were carefully analyzed. The most energy efficient routing protocols for homogeneous proactive networks were studied and compared to highlight the research challenges and existing problems in this area. The results proved that energy overhead and route selection are the most effective aspects of network lifetime and network efficiency.
Wireless Sensor Networks have an extensive range of applications but they are conquered with many challenging problems and complications that need to be addressed. The energy consumption of the nodes and the extension of the network lifetime are the core challenges and the most significant features of the routing protocol in order to make it suitable, effective and efficient for WSNs. As the sensor nodes are basically battery powered devices, so the top concern is always to how to reduce the energy utilization to extend its lifetime. In the past few years WSNs has gained a considerable amount of attention from both the research community and the real users. The researchers also proposed many different energy efficient routing protocols to achieve the desired network operations. In this paper there is an attempt to give a wide comparison of the routing protocols in WSNs focusing on the hierarchical or clustering based routing protocols. Moreover, extracting the strengths and weaknesses of each protocol, providing a comparison among them, including some metrics like scalability, mobility, power usage, robustness etc. to make it understandable and simple to select the most suitable one as per the requirement of the network.
