Enhancing The Students’ Speaking Skill Through Peer and Self Assessment Method

The purpose of this research was to find out the effectiveness of peer and self-assessment in enhancing students’ speaking skills at the second-grade students of SMA 3 Parepare. The subject of this research was the XI IPA 1 class which is consisted of 28 students. The sample was taken by using cluster sampling. The design of this research was pre-experimental with pre-test and post-test design. The researcher gave pre-test and post-test to know whether implementing peer and self-assessment methods can improve students’ speaking skills or not. The result of this research indicates that there was an improvement in the students’ speaking skills. It was shown in the students’ mean score of post-test (62.8) that was greater than the pre-test (19.5). Even, for the level significant (p) 5% and df = 27, and the value of the table is 1.703, while the value of the t-test is 1.825. This research was aimed to find out or not Commentary Strategy has significant effect in teaching speaking, and has correlation students self-confidence and their speaking ability. The research was quasi- experimental method and design was non equivalent control group design. The population of this research was the whole students of second grade students of MA NW AIKMEL, the total population is 43 students that consisted of two class. The sample was taken from of the second grade students which consisted of 43 students. The data were gained from pre-test and post-test of oral and questionnaire. The purpose of this study is to investigate students’ ability in speaking before and after using Direct Method in learning English. The method in this research was experimental quantitative method by using quasi experimental design with one group pretest-posttest model. The design only saw students’ achievement in speaking before and after using Direct Method. The object of the research was English Department students. They were randomly selected. This study is about how 55 university students perceive the learning system on communication skill through virtual class by using provided dialogue and students’ own dialogue. Provided dialogue means text of conversation taken from the book, and the lecturer brings it in the virtual class for the students to discuss, learn, and practice. Meanwhile, the students’ own dialogue refers to the assignment the lecturer gives to students in which students create dialogue within 5-6 days and the dialogue must fulfil several requirements. The instrument for collecting data is questionnaire. There are 21 items of questions in questionnaire given to students at the end of semester. The aim of this study is to get deeper into the concept and process of speaking assessment. The assessment has a significant impact on students' learning because it plays a vital role in fostering students' speaking capability in the learning process. Evaluating and assessing students' achievement in the learning process can give the direct impact toward students learning directly. This study focuses on the speaking assessment at the higher education level, what is the purpose of the speaking assessment, the technique and tools that is used in the assessment. The method used in this study is library research method, by collecting and identifying factual data from various sources and experts' opinions. Researchers found from the study the purpose of speaking skill assessment is to measure the learning impact. Some techniques in conducting speaking assessment are: public speaking assessment, short and answer assessment, peer-assessment, self-assessment, direct, semi-direct, and indirect assessment, and digital formative assessment and the dynamic assessment for both direct and online or technology basis. The tools in conducting the speaking skills assessment are holistic rubric, analytical rubric, computer-based oral exams.

The aims of this study was to find out students’ efforts in improving speaking skills at University of PGRI Sumatera Barat. This present study employed a qualitative descriptive design with taken from a questionnaire adapted from the College Students Experience Questionnaire (CSEQ) G.D Kuh (2003) as a research instrument. The data collect by distributing questionnaires using Google Forms. There were 49 students first semester in 2021 studying at the Department of English Education, University of PGRI Sumatera Barat who participated in this study. There are seven activity scales namely, library, classroom learning, speaking experience, arts and music activities, campus facilities, groups and organizations, and personal experiences. The use of English in Indonesia has developed quickly in all of fields. It’s affected by many things in many ways. The need of English has also increased quickly in many parts of indonesians’ life. In order to face its, teaching English at young ages or student seems like the solution. Speaking is one of the skills that should be tough to the student. To get an effective learning, it’s useful to know what are factors contributing to the student speaking development. This research showed that there are some contributing factors to the students’ speaking development. Those factors are: Teacher, Daily Practice, Listening to English Music, Family Support, Watching English Video and Movie, Motivation to Learn, Classroom Environment, Learning Material. Such as a good teacher would provide a good learning. Support of the family would also give an effective outcome for the students development. So, the factors should be known in order to get a better outcome for the students.
