he process of women empowerment embraces areas of self reliance, internal Tstrength and capacity that entails the social, economic as well as political aspect of women lives. Women must feel they are able other than unable to effectively contribute in issues that impact on their lives. Therefore the need for women empowerment cannot be overemphasized. This article examined issues of women empowerment in relation to quality education and economic participation in Nigeria. The study indicated the important of education as a key to success and lack of it is capable of hampering women's contribution to national development. suggestions are put forward on how to improve women education.

Underscoring the Relationship Between Education for Women and National Development in Nigeria

This study assessed the impact of education for women at all levels (primary, secondary, and tertiary) on economic development and child welfare in Nigeria. The choice of these two domains was to give a thorough assessment economic impact of women's education. The Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) was used to test for the stationarity of variables. The Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bound test with the aid of data obtained from World Bank indicators was employed for the analysis. The analysis revealed that the more women with secondary and tertiary education, the better the economic growth and child welfare in Nigeria. Hence, the paper concluded that the government should make and implement appropriate policies to boost women's education enrolment at all levels.

PERCEIVED ROLE OF WOMEN EDUCATION IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: A CASE STUDY OF MUBI NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, NIGERIA

In Nigeria and in Mubi North Local Government Area in particular, the girl-child access to basic education was observed to be at its lowest ebb. The reasons for this may revolve around religious and cultural beliefs. This study examined the role of women education in national development; particularly in the aspect of children's health and educational attainment. The sample for the study consisted of 200 women randomly selected from five villages in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State in Nigeria. A checklist was used to collect data from the respondents. The internal consistency of the instrument was determined using Guttmann's Split-Half statistic. This yielded a reliability value of 0.80. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts, percentages and Kolmogorov-Smirnov z two samples test. Results of data analysis showed that women education could play a significant role towards improving the health and education of children. The study also identified male-child preference, early marriage, cultural and religious misinterpretation as the major factors militating against female education, particularly in Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa. FACTORS AFFECTING WOMEN EDUCATION IN MAIDUGURI, BORNO STATE

Despite efforts made by the Government to provide equal educational opportunities for all citizens, the level of women participation in education is still low. This paper is an attempt to examine the issue of gender inequality in education with a view to finding out what can be done to redress the imbalance. Purposive sampling method was used to draw sample from the population, simple percentages was used to test the demographic and responses of the respondents. The paper proposes value reorientation of Nigerian towards women education as a necessary step towards gender parity in education. The paper also identifies attitude of parents, traditional practices, socioeconomic of parents and general illiteracy rate in Maiduguri Metropolis as some of the factors militating against women. Women Participation in National Development in Nigeria: The Imperative of Education

Women constitute an indispensable force in the quest for national development of any nation. In the developed nations, women have been able to play this important role. However, in Nigeria, women are still relegated to the background as they lack the educational, economic and political power necessary to actualize their innate potentials. The paper examines the important place of women education in the empowerment of women to enable them contribute their quota to national development. The study relied solely on secondary data and this was analysed using content analysis. The paper shows that women access to education is still low as the gender disparity in the enrolment of women into primary, secondary and tertiary educational institutions is widening over the years. These problems are further compounded by the high rate of girls' dropout and failure among women that sat for 'O' Level examination. The implication is that many of them lacked the required minimum numbers of credits that qualify them to enrol or get admission into the tertiary institutions. The paper postulates that more pro-active actions need to be taken by the government and other stakeholders to ensure gender parity in education through special child girls education, scholarships and effective implementation of policies and programmes geared towards this..
