A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF BIOACTIVE MOLECULES IN TREATMENT AND CONTROL OF CANCER

Bioactive molecules are obtained from living organisms and have variety of properties including anticancer, ant proliferative, anti-Parkinson, anti-Alzheimer etc. Out of these, cancer has emerged as an epidemic especially in the developing and third world countries. The cancer has been described as an uncontrolled cell growth leading to formation of carcinoma, nodes, lumps or hyperplasia conditions. The causative agents for this mutated cell conditions have been defined as "Risk Groups /factors" which may lead to cancer. Till date the traditional radiation therapy alone or coupled with chemotherapy has been practised as sole treatment of this disease. However, the survival rate of treated patients has been found to be very low. The present study describes role of various bioactive molecules in control of cancer. An effort has been made to ensemble the large data of bioactive compounds of microbial, plant, animal, food / herb / spices origin for their anticancer activity in minimum space possible in the present review.
Anti-Cancer Agents in Medicinal Chemistry
Background: Cancer is one of the leading causes of an increasing number of deaths in modern society. As the population increases, there is an increased thrust for screening newer anticancer (phytoconstituents) agents to manage cancers. Around 35000 herbal phytoconstituents are obtained from plants, animals and marine sources to create awareness of green therapy in managing, reducing, and minimizing side effects of modern chemotherapeutics and radiation therapy. The herbal plants are the richest sources of natural remedies and bioactive compounds that promote medicines' alternative systems as a green approach for managing various cancers. The terpenoids, saponins, volatile oils, and flavonoid phytoconstituents are most efficiently used to manage cancer with minimal side effects. Objective: The objectives of the present study are to investigate the efficacious, potent and safe use of herbal phytoconstituents extracts in the management of cancers and study their mechanism of action through alteration of transcription proteins, blocking G-2/M phase, distortion of tubulin structure, generation of reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, cell cycle arrest, and anti-proliferation induced cell apoptosis for target specific cancer treatment. The information was collected from databases such as ScienceDirect, PubMed, Google Scholar, Academia, MedLine, and WoS. Methods: The literature was surveyed, and keywords like cancer therapeutics, metastasis, proliferation, cell apoptosis, cell lines, phytoconstituents for cancer management, and related disorders were screened. Results: The findings suggested that the crude extracts act as an antioxidant, free radical scavenger, or anti-aging agent exploited in the management of cancers along with treatment of other infectious diseases like ulcers, gout, liver diseases, respiratory tract infection, renal disorders, blood disorders, CVD, anti-inflammatory and several wound infections. Conclusion: The phytoactive moieties having herbal extracts help improve the compromised immunity status of affected patients and provide measures for scientific studies of newer anticancer agents in herbal industries.
REVIEWING PHYTO-AGENTS WITH ANTI-CANCER ACTIVITIES
Multiple loopholes in the cell cycle regulation open the window for cancerous events. From the knowledge of this regulatory checkpoints which usually become compromise, anti cancer weapons can be designed. This work tries to do a simple review of anti cancer agents isolated from plants and the windows they have the potential to close on cancer.
An Overview On Certain Anticancer Natural Products
Cancer is the second leading cause of death in developed and developing countries. It may be caused due to incorrect diet, genetic predisposition or environmental factors. At least 35% of all cancers worldwide are caused by incorrect diet. The plant kingdom has a great place in the treatment of diseases with no ill effect. Numerous plant products are now used for the remedy of cancer. According to WHO estimates, more than 80% people in developing countries depend on traditional medicine for their primary health needs. Consumption of large amount of vegetables and fruits can prevent the development of cancer. Several natural products are available as chemoprotective agents against various types of cancer. These chemoprotective agents are present in fruits, vegetables, plant extracts, herbs, microbes and marine organisms. A host of natural product constituents could be responsible for the protective effect against cancer. Although the mechanism of the protective effect is unclear, nevertheless, the consumption of natural products lowers the incidence of cancer. A major group of these products are the powerful antioxidants, others are phenolic in nature and the remainder includes reactive groups. This article emphasizes many anticancer natural products obtained from plant, microbe and marine sources, which possess potent anticancer activity.

Cancer is one of the most stern health dilemmas engulfing 7 million lives every year globally. It is group of more than 100 diseases. Conventional cancer therapies burdened the disease crippled patient with lethal side effects and are also very expensive. Therefore, the demand to use alternative approaches in treatment of cancer is escalating. Plants of earth are massive reservoir of bioactive compounds. Plant derived compounds such as protoapigenone, casticin, moursin, gypenosides VN5, kalopanaxsaponin A, sapindoside B7, maclekarpine C are foremost anticancer agents, due to their unique structure and sophisticated mechanism of action. The present review is aimed at compiling data on promising classes of bioactive compounds from medicinal plants and their anti cancer mechanism of action against different human carcinoma cell lines.
Potential Natural Products with Anticancer Properties and Their Applications
Natural products continue to be a source for the discovery of drugs and drug leads even from ancient period. 80% of drug molecules have been obtained from either natural products or derivatives of the natural product. It has been found that the concept of a single drug for treating single disease may become outdated in the near future and the need of polyherbal formulations, as an alternate remedy is under investigation. Medicinal and aromatic plants contain biologically important phytochemicals, which have known curative properties. They are found as secondary metabolites in plants. Plants also contain certain other compounds that moderate the effects of the active ingredients. Medicinal and aromatic plants have their own contribution toward the treatment of both noncommunicable and communicable diseases. A survey done by the WHO indicates that a majority of the world population tends to use plants for treating diseases. Cancer, the second largest cause of death after cardiovascular disease accounts for about 3500 million people globally. Due to the serious side effects of synthetic chemopreventive agents, research is going onto investigate the nature derived chemopreventive agents. In addition to the plant-derived compounds, marine, and animal resources also play an important role as clinically beneficial anticancer agents with minimal or no toxicity. The best examples for plant-derived compounds include vincristine, vinblastine, irinotecan, etoposide, and paclitaxel; they have a different mode of action against cancer such as interaction with microtubules, inhibition of topoisomerases I or II, alkylation of DNA, and interference with tumor signal transduction. The natural products from marine sources such as bryostatin, squalamine exhibit a significant antimitotic, and anti-angiogenic activities. The benefits of various anticancer drugs derived from natural products are the fact that it can have its effect on cancer cells alone without harming healthy cells, which is unlikely to be the case with other conventional chemotherapeutics. In this review, various natural products and their anticancer properties have been discussed briefly.

Nowadays, cancer is one of the deadliest diseases in the world, which has been estimated to cause 9.9 million deaths in 2020. Conventional treatments for cancer commonly involve monochemotherapy or a combination of radiotherapy and mono-chemotherapy. However, the negative side effects of these approaches have been extensively reported and have prompted the search of new therapeutic drugs. In this context, scientific community started to look for innovative sources of anticancer compounds in natural sources, including traditional plants. Currently, numerous studies have evaluated the anticancer properties of natural compounds derived from plants, both in vitro and in vivo. In pre-clinical stages, some promising compounds could be mentioned, such as the sulforaphane or different phenolic compounds. On the other hand, some phytochemicals obtained positive results in clinical stages and were further approved for cancer treatment, such as vinca alkaloids or the paclitaxel. Nevertheless, these compounds are not exempt of limitations, such as low solubility, restricted effect on their own, negative side-effects, etc. This review aims to compile the information about the current phytochemicals used for cancer treatment and also promising candidates, main action mechanisms and also reported limitations. In this sense, some strategies to face the limitations have been considered, such as nano-based formulations to improve solubility or chemical modification to reduce toxicity. In conclusion, although more research is still necessary to develop more efficient and safe phytochemical drugs, more of these compounds might be used in future cancer therapies.
ANTI-CANCER AGENTS DERIVED FROM PLANT AND DIETARY SOURCES: A REVIEW
Cancer is a disease of deregulated cellular behavior. Acquisition of oncogenic attributes, loss of tumor suppressive functions, evasion of physiological tissue architecture and interactions with the cellular microenvironment enable malignant cells to escape the mechanisms of normal cellular homeostasis in an organism. Cancer cells are therefore able to sustain unlimited proliferation, to thrive under conditions that preclude normal cell survival, and to spread to distant sites through the process of metastasis. Natural products are important sources of new anticancer drugs, new drug leads and new chemical entities. The plant based drug discovery resulted mainly in the development of anticancer agents including plants (vincristine, vinblastine, paclitaxel, etoposide, camptothecin, topotecan and irinotecan). Beside this there is numerous agents identified from fruits and vegetables can used in anticancer therapy. The agents include curcumin (turmeric), resveratrol (red grapes, peanuts and berries), genistein (soybean), diallyl sulfide (allium), S-allyl cysteine (allium), allicin (garlic), lycopene (tomato), capsaicin (red chilli), diosgenin (fenugreek), 6-gingerol (ginger), ellagic acid (pomegranate), ursolic acid (apple, pears, prunes), silymarin (milk thistle), anethol (anise, camphor, and fennel), catechins (green tea), eugenol (cloves), indole-3-carbinol (cruciferous vegetables), limonene (citrus fruits), beta carotene (carrots), and dietary fiber. In this review active principle derived from natural products are offering a great opportunity to evaluate not only totally new chemical classes of anticancer agents, but also novel lead compound and potentially relevant mechanisms of action.
