Impact of Technology in Teaching English as A Second Language

Abstract:- This research paper discusses approaches and techniques which can assist English Language Students to improve their learning skills by using technology. It highlights use of modern technology in teaching English as second language. Upon the practical study the paper diagnoses the drawbacks and limitations o current conventional English Language Learning tools. Effectiveness of Educational Technology in Strengthening Student’s Achievement in English at Secondary School Level in Kohat Division (Pakistan)

The purpose of this research study was to explore the effectiveness of educational technology in strengthening students' academic achievement in English at secondary school level. All the students at secondary school level in Kohat Division constituted the population of the study. The study was delimited to the students of Govt. High School Khurram (Karak). The study was further delimited to the students of 9th class. Forty students of 9th class were selected as sample. Sample students were divided into two groups i.e. control group and experimental group on the basis of pre-test. Each group was comprised of 20 students. The study was experimental in nature therefore pre-test and post-test research design was used as research instrument. Statistical tools i.e. the mean, standard deviation and differences of means were computed for each group. Significance of difference between the mean scores of both the experimental and control groups on the variable of pre-test and post test scores was tested at 122 0.05 level by applying t-test. After statistical analysis of the data, it was concluded that educational technology plays a vital role in strengthening students' academic achievement in English at secondary level. Educational technologies were found to be more effective and successful in teaching of English. The students of experimental group showed unexpected and excellent performance as compared to the students of control group. Based on findings, it was strongly recommended that availability of educational technologies should be ensured and utilized at secondary school level.

Student) St. Agnes College, Mangalore The paper is designed to analyses the Technology Enhanced Language Learning in the English Classrooms. Technology is being incorporated into the language classroom with involved funding towards the same from government agencies. The study will examine the pros and cones of the use of modern technological resources in the English classrooms and implication of owning and using those resources. The paper will attempt to critically evaluate the use of technology in the schools in the cities of Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka and in the Central Travancore region in Kerala. The use of advanced technology implicates efficiency in the teaching and learning process. The paper will discuss the possibilities of integration of technology in language learning. It also analyses the limitations of the educator towards providing the technological aids, and the necessary trainings for the effective use of such aids. Language laboratories, LCD projectors, web resources, video conferencing etc. will be the technological aids taken up for discussion and analysis.

“Use of Technology in English Language Learning on Tertiary levels students of Bangladesh”

This paper has shown how we can coordinate modern technology with the language learning. Few years back students did not find any interest in the way they were taught. But after the advent of technology the scenario has changed radically. Now the students can submit their assignment through internet, they can find suitable article, documents for learning English as well. This study encompassed the different sorts of devices which are used by the learners. Through this study I have also tried to find out the role of technology in English language learning and how much it is effective. The research has conducted on some tertiary levels students of Bangladesh by giving them some questionnaire. It has also cover the prevailing problems using it in the field of language and how we could make our way of learning more developed with the help of the technology.

Technology Facilitates the Teaching of English Language

Abstract Now-a-days English has become an integral part of academic curriculum. English language serves as a bridge between the students’ years of formal study before joining the course and the professional life during and after the course. It enables the students to confidently face both the formal and informal situations in real life contexts. Of late, the students are in hard need of effective communication skills. They are selected for jobs on the basis of their knowledge of English language, adequate presentational skills, personal skills, leadership skills, managerial skills, time and stress management skills, negotiation skills, communication skills and confidence levels. Therefore, learning English language has been recognized as an ever interesting phenomenon in the fast developing progress of all over the world.

Technology Usage in Learning English. A Case Study at Tertiary Level

This paper reports a case study that was carried out to evaluate usages of modern technology (MT) in learning English by the tertiary level learners in Bangladesh. The study used case study approach, and data were collected applying three methods- questionnaire, observation, and face-toface interview. The sample consisted of current students of English department of a public university. The study found that technology usages of learners in English language (EL) learning were not effective enough though their attitudes towards technology-based language learning (TBLL) were positive. Analyzing the Perceptions of Learners to Integrate Technology in Learning English at Public Sector Engineering University of Sindh, Jamshoro

The study intends to know the perceptions of engineering students to use technology in learning English at Mehran university of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro. The study tries to know the responses of students with the impact to learn English through technology. According to the majority of the responses from students, the integration of technology can affect the educational and the occupational lives of engineering students. The scheme of this study follows cross-sectional design and adopted the quantitative approach. The research had data from 150 students that represented five departments of engineering field at Mehran University, Jamshoro. The six technological domains in use of students tend to answer to learn for English. It was concluded after the analysis of responses from SPSS version 23 that the effective learning and the teaching of English with integration of technology can be possible at Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET), Jamshoro, Sindh.
