Modeling the Transmission Dynamics ofLASSA Outbreaks in Nigeria States
Cohesive Journal of Microbiology & Infectious Disease, 2020
A nonlinear deterministic model was considered to study the dynamics transmission and control of LASSA fever virus. The total population was divided into seven mutually exclusive classes between human and rodents as susceptible human, exposed humans, infected human, removed human, susceptible rodents, exposed rodents and infected rodents. Existence and uniqueness of the solution of the model were determined, the basic reproduction number is derived the model threshold parameter was examined using next-generation operator method. The existence of disease-free equilibrium point and endemic equilibrium point was carried out. The model result shows that diseases free equilibrium is local asymptotically stable at Ro< 1 and unstable at Ro> 1, the model is globally asymptotically stable. Sensitivity analysis of the model parameters was carried out in order to identify the most sensitive parameters on the disease transmission using data from the Nigeria States.
Analysis of Transmission Dynamics of COVID-19 in Nigeria: Mathematical Modelling

The outbreak of SARS-CoV-2 is still taking place, this poses a colossal danger to transnational public health and economics. Ending the global SARS-CoV-2 pandemic requires implementation of multiple strategies such as mathematical modelling. We propose a mathematical model to investigate the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 in Nigeria. A nonlinear differential equation with five compartments was formulated and this represents the Susceptible, Exposed, Quarantined, Infected and Recovered sub-population. We conducted qualitative and quantitative model analyses. This was achieved by establishing solution to the model's positivity and boundedness. The disease free and endemic equilibrium points of the model were obtained and analyzed. The basic reproduction number was obtained and the model was proven to be asymptotically stable. The numerical solution was done by using Runge-Kutta method of order coded using Maple 14 programming software with data values from reliable sources. The SEQIR model successfully captured the transmission dynamics of the infection in Nigeria, thus shedding more light on the infection trends. Finally, the model is a promising one which will help the country to monitor and implement necessary precautionary measures. The model results also confirm the benefits of immediate testing, and availability of quarantine facilities.
A MATHEMATICAL MODEL FOR THE CONTROL OF CHOLERA OUTBREAK IN NIGERIA
Journal of Pharmaceutical and Allied Sciences, 2024
This study focuses on the development of a mathematical model to address the dynamics of cholera transmission in Nigeria, a country frequently plagued by cholera outbreaks due to several socio-environmental factors. The mathematical model incorporates treatment mechanisms and aims to provide a framework for controlling the disease. We obtained the basic reproduction number (), which determined the conditions for local and global asymptotic stability of the model. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to evaluate the impact of various parameters on , revealing that contact rate between susceptible and infected individuals, as well as the transition from exposed to actively infected population, significantly influenced disease spread. Numerical simulations further support the theoretical findings, demonstrating that reducing contact between susceptible and infected individuals and enhancing the treatment rate for infected persons can effectively mitigate the cholera burden. Based on these findings, recommendations include increasing government commitment to treatment facilities, organizing public awareness campaigns on sanitation, and improving infrastructure related to water treatment, waste management, and flood control. This model provides actionable insights for managing and controlling cholera outbreaks in Nigeria.
A Novel Mathematical Model for Curbing the Spread of Covid-19 in Nigeria
This paper considered a novel transmission and control model for curbing the spread of Covid-19 disease in Nigeria. The model dynamics was studied in the presence of vaccines on the Nigeria population. The analytical properties of the model which include local and global stabilities of the Covid-19-free and endemic equilibria were discussed. The basic reproductive number was obtained in order to ascertain the states of the eradication of Covid-19 from Nigeria. The parameters in the model were estimated based on the real data of COVID-19 infected cases, number of vaccinated and deaths recorded in Nigeria. The sensitivity of the model parameters was carried out and the results proved that high values of the parameters associated with the rate of vaccination and precautionary measures will drastically reduce the spread rate of Covid-19 in Nigeria. The trace and determinant of matrix method was applied to determine the local stability of Covid-19-free equilibrium. The Covid-19-free equilibrium was found to be globally stable when the reproductive number is strictly less than one and the endemic equilibrium is globally stable when the reproductive number is more than one. The numerical simulation and analysis of the model on various sets of parameters showed that there is a strong significant effect on the infectives if a minimum of fifty percent of the inhabitants is vaccinated against Covid-19 in Nigeria.
Application of an Age-Structured Deterministic Endemic Model for Disease Control in Nigeria
2020
This paper focuses on the development and analysis of the endemic model for disease control in an aged-structured population in Nigeria. Upon the model framework development, the model equations were transformed into proportions with rate of change of the different compartments forming the model, thereby reducing the model equations from twelve to ten homogenous ordinary differential equations. The model exhibits two equilibria, the endemic state and the disease-free equilibrium state while successfully achieving a Reproductive Number 0 = 0. The deterministic endemic susceptible-exposed-infected-removed-undetectable=untransmissiblesusceptible (SEIRUS) model is analyzed for the existence and stability of the disease-free equilibrium state. We established that a disease-free equilibrium state exists and is locally asymptotically stable when the basic reproduction number 0 ≤ 0 < 1. Furthermore, numerical simulations were carried to complement the analytical results in investigating the effect treatment rate and the net transmission rate on recovery for both juvenile and adult sub-population in an agestructured population.
A Mathematical Model for the Control of Cholera in Nigeria
In this research, we present and analyze a mathematical model for the control of cholera in Nigeria with modifications as compared to previous cholera models. Our model incorporates treatment, water hygiene and environmental sanitation in curtailing the disease. A system of ordinary differential equations is used. The model studied shows that with proper combination of control measures the spread of cholera could be reduced. Numerical simulation of the full model using maple shows clearly that improvement in treatment, water hygiene and the environmental sanitation offered to about fifty percent is effective to eradicate cholera epidemic.
DergiPark (Istanbul University), 2023
Cholera remains a severe health concern in many developing nations, including Nigeria, and its control remains challenging. Therefore, a mathematical model for the mitigation of cholera disease in Nigeria is developed and analyzed. It includes vital dynamics that examine the impact of environmental sanitation, water body treatment, water hygiene, and therapeutic treatment as mitigation strategies for containing the disease. The impact of control techniques on the diseased population is investigated using numerical simulation. The model was simulated to determine the impacts of hygienic culture on the infected population at no, low, moderate, and high levels of vaccination and treatment, or both. The model under study demonstrates that the cholera pandemic might be eliminated from society with the right mix of preventative measures and determined effort. According to the model used, Nigeria will quickly rid itself of the disease if treatment, water hygiene, and environmental sanitation are highly monitored and improved.

This study shows the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 in Nigeria using a S-I-R model for a none constant population. The simplicity of the model allows for more use of estimated than assumed parameters in our computations. The available statistical information regarding COVID-19 in Nigeria from its date of arrival till 30th of March 2020 (22:00 WAT) was used to estimate some parameters, understand and predict the spread of the virus. The disease free and the endemic equilibrium points were obtained. The stability of the disease free equilibrium was investigated using Jacobian transformation. The analysis carried out using the estimated parameters showed that the disease free equilibrium point is stable. The basic reproduction number of the model was calculated and shown to be less than one using estimated parameters. Numerical simulation shows that with intensified control measure, the disease will fizzle out within a short period of time. The simulation was performed using MATLAB.
Modeling the Spread of Malaria in North-Eastern Nigeria: a Case Study of Adamawa State
American Journal of Applied Mathematics, 2013
This paper deals with modeling the spread of Malaria in Adamawa State of Nigeria. The simple SIR model and data obtained from the World Health Organization WHO, Adamawa was used to analyze the rate of infection of malaria in the state. It was discovered that o R > 0. Based on the principle of o R which states that when o R < 0, the infection will die out with a certainty, but if o R > 0, there will be a proper malaria outbreak. It was observed that the force of infection of malaria in the Adamawa state is high. Some necessary recommendations for the eradication of malaria were made.
