In the historiography of the history of education, different authors have emphasized the "in-between" position which the discipline occupies (Nóvoa, 1994, p. 21; Depaepe, 1993, p. 31). The discipline, a structuring element in the incipient science of education, developed historically only in the institutional field of the training of teachers, to which it became linked. Based on this situation, we propose to analyze the question in a semi-retrospective manner, evoking memories of personal experience. Based on these, we shall interrogate the past, taking Portugal as our field of observation whilst at the same time taking a look at the situation of the history of education in other European countries. We intend to problematize the place of the history of education in the field of teacher training and the role which it represents there. Starting with a systematization of some questions related to this theme, we intend to discuss the hybrid nature of the history of education, with the difficulties and opportunities inherent in it.
Educational heritage and cultural schools models in Portuguese History of Education in Portugal

This paper discusses the educational heritage in Portugal and provides an outline of a project that developed a research on cultural heritage of education. It is intended to highlight some of the segments of work, such as lifting, sorting, cataloging and study of educational materials collections; analysis of achievements, experiences and practices developed in the context of material culture, museums and educational virtual museums, with attention to national and international cases; studies on the history of some educational institutions according to their collections materials; research on the history of school subjects and the processes of teaching and learning; studies on the public school and the material configuration of their training, including students, female education and colonial education; development of final products to the dissemination of results.
Arquivos e educação: a construção da memória educativa

Os arquivos escolares motivam profundas preocupações relativamente à salvaguarda e preservação dos seus documentos, que constituem instrumentos fundamentais para a história da escola e a construção da memória educativa. A sua importância tem vindo a ser reconhecida, conduzindo a uma reflexão sobre a sua preservação, as condições de instalação, a organização correcta dos documentos e o acesso às informações que nele estão contidas. Os arquivos escolares constituem o repositório das fontes de informação directamente relacionadas com o funcionamento das instituições educativas, o que lhes confere uma importância acrescida nos novos caminhos da investigação em educação, que colocam estas instituições numa posição de grande centralidade para a compreensão dos fenómenos educativos e dos processos de socialização das gerações mais jovens. Violencia simbólica y educación: el aula de enseñanza primaria en el nacionalcatolicismo a través del museísmo pedagógico 1 Resumen: Los museos pedagógicos y la reconstrucción de la cultura escolar en el aula han supuesto un gran avance para investigadores de diversas áreas a lo largo de los últimos tiempos. El presente estudio trata de determinar si a través de dichos espacios escolares y curriculares, y de la metódica distri-bución de los objetos dentro del aula, se ejercía una violencia simbólica y adoctrinadora por parte del Régimen de Franco a los alumnos de la enseñanza primaria durante la etapa de mayor auge del nacionalcatolicismo en nuestro país. Abstract: The pedagogical museums and the reconstruction of the school culture in the classroom have meant a great advance for researchers of diverse areas in recent times. The present study tries to determine if through these school and curricular spaces, and of the methodical distribution of the objects within the classroom, a symbolic and indoctrinating violence was exerted by the Franco´s regime to the pupils of the primary education during the stage of greater national-Catholicism boom in our country.

Os trabalhos sobre cultura escolar surgiram nos anos de 1980, mas a idéia de uma cultura escolar se fortaleceu nos anos de 1990, apresentando atualmente diferenciadas tendências investigativas. Este texto, portanto, esboça uma leitura inicial do quadro conceitual em estudo e das possibilidades de pesquisa na/pela cultura escolar.
