Effect of Problem Based Learning to Critical Thingking Skills Elementary School Students in Social Studies

The main problem of this study is the lack of ability to think kriis Elementary School fifth grade students in the learning of Social Sciences. This study uses a quantitative approach with quasi-experimental methods. The study population was the fifth-grade elementary school students in District Ciparay Bandung regency. The sample consisted of 51 students divided into 25 students in the class IV-A as an experimental group and 26 students in the class IV-B as the control group. Instruments used comprises a written test regarding social issues. Quantitative analysis is performed against the average pretest and post test critical thinking skills by using the t-test and Mann Whitney test. The effectiveness of problem-based learning model to increase the students' critical thinking skills

The previous research result showed that the learning model based on the investigation could increase the students' critical thinking skills. The aim of this research was to measure the effectiveness of the using of problem-based learning model to increase the students' critical thinking skills. The research design was quasi-experiment by using post-test only design. The population of this research was the eleventh grade students of science which contained 124 students of SMAN 6 and SMAN 7 Kupang that were chosen randomly. The treatment that was given in this research was problem-based learning model for the experiment class and conventional model for the control class whereas the given materials were the reaction rate. The instrument that was used in this research previously validated by two experts of theory and material. The result of this research showed that the students who studied in experiment class had different critical thinking skills better that the students who studied using conventional model.

The fact that happened in the field during this perceived lesson IPS less able develop abilities students to thinking critically, solve the problem. Because the learning process in the classroom does not use the thinking strategy of learning. The learning process is only directed so that students can only master and memorize course material only. While critical thinking and problem-solving are indispensable in learning. So that the impact on student learning outcomes is still low. Based on the background, the researcher uses a scientific approach to learning problem-based learning model to improve critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes in IPS learning. The purpose of this research is to improve the ability of critical thinking and learning outcomes of fourth-grade students of SDN Jatikalang 1 Krian through a scientific approach to the problem-based learning model. Implementation of this research using experiment by using a scientific approach with problem-based learning model by using two small class, that is an experiment class and control class. The subject of this research is the students of class IV as the experimental class and class IV B as the control class at SDN Jatikalang 1 Krian. The results showed that students' critical thinking ability increased in the control class at 67.97% and 83.8% for the experimental class. While the average result of student learner in control class is 69,02% and in experimental class 85,54%. The conclusion of this research is a scientific approach to problem-based learning model can improve the ability of critical thinking and student learning outcomes in IPS learning in SDN Jatikalang 1 Krian. For elementary school teachers, especially class IV, it is suggested to use a scientific approach with a problem-based learning model in IPS learning to improve critical thinking ability and student learning outcomes.

This research started from the phenomenon of low critical thinking skill of grade XI IPS students in SMAN 9 Harjamukti Cirebon. Many factors influence, one of them is the learning method. The purpose of this research is to find the differences in students' critical thinking skill before and after using Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning method and Problem Solving (PS) learning method. This research is an experimental study using the Quasi Experiment method. The form of design of quasi experiment used is Nonequivalen Control Group Design. The research subjects are class XI IPS 1, XI IPS 2 and class XI IPS 4 in SMAN 9 Harjamukti Cirebon. Data collection tools for students' critical thinking skill are obtained by providing tests in the form of description questions. The test that will be used is done validity test, reality test, difficulty level test and differentiating test. Data processing techniques use normality test, homogeneity test, Gain and for hypothesis test using paired samples t-test and independent sample t-test. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that there are differences from students’ critical thinking skill using Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Problem Solving (PS) learning method is higher than the analytical capability of students who use conventional methods and there are differences in students' critical thinking skills between class that use Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning method and class that use Problem Solving (PS) learning method. Learning using Problem Solving (PS) learning method is more effective in improving students' critical thinking skill than learning using Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning method and conventional method.

The Problem Based Learning Model To Improve The Students' Critical Thinking Ability

The critical thinking ability is one of the high-level thinking ability that must need to have by the students in solving the problems of learning in daily life. The aimed of this study is to determine the effectiveness of problem in based learning model particularly in improving the critical thinking of the student's ability. This study included quasi experiments with pretest-posttest control group design. Respondents of this study were 123 students that divided into two classes, experimental class and control class. To analysis the data, this study utilized the N-Gain test. The results showed that the improvement of the experimental class is much higher than the control class. Therefore, based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that the problem of based learning model was an effective way in improving the critical thinking of the student's ability in the setting of teaching learning process.

Improving Critical Thinking of Elementary School Students Using Problem-Based Learning Models

Efforts to improve the quality of education in Indonesia at this time are unceasingly continued by education experts. Based on learning outcomes data obtained by fourth grade Elementary School student of Sawunggaling VIII / 389 in Surabaya City through the application of Problem-based learning models in social studies learning has increased. Classical learning completeness of students has increased by 14.74%. In addition, the development of student learning outcomes on the affective and cognitive aspects also increased. The type of research used in this research is Classroom Action Research. This study uses a qualitative and quantitative descriptive method with research procedures including (1) action planning, (2) implementation of actions, (3) observation and evaluation, (4) analysis and reflection. The activities of teachers and students during the implementation of the contextual learning model in social studies learning have increased. This is indicated by the percentage of students' critical abilities in the first cycle of 67.95% and there was an increase in the second cycle of 82.69%. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the problem-based learning model can improve students' critical thinking skills in elementary schools. .

So far, elementary schools have found problems with students' critical thinking skills, which could be improved by implementing thematic learning, so a learning model is needed to train students' critical thinking skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze whether there were differences in the level of effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning model in improving critical thinking skills in thematic learning of students in grade IV SD/MI, namely SDN II Weringinanom Poncokusmo Malang, East Java, Indonesia. The Effect of Problem- Based Learning on Critical Thinking and Student Achievement in the 1 Bantul Senior High School

The purposes of this study are (1) to know the effect of Problem-Based Learning on critical thinking, (2) to know the effect of Problem-Based Learning on student achievement, (3) to know the relationship between critical thinking and student achievement in Environmental Pollution of 10th Grade in The 1 Bantul Senior High School. The research was quasi experimental research using a control group pretest-posttest design. Sample was X IPA 5 as an experimental group while X IPA 6 as a control group. Data analysis techniques were normality and homogeneity test, t test, analysis of covariance (ANACOVA), and Pearson correlation. The results show that (1) Problem-Based Learning affects critical thinking, (2) Problem-Based Learning affects student achievement, and (3) there was a significant relationship between critical thinking and student achievement. The higher critical thinking is, the higher student achievement of the students.

Influence of Problem Based Learning (PBL) Model Towards Critical Thinking Ability Class VI SDN 14 Tanjung Medan

This study aims to determine: (1) The influence of students' critical thinking ability taught with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model compared to the critical thinking ability taught with the Direct Intruction Class VI model of SD Negeri 14 Tanjung Medan for the 2021/2022 Academic Year; (2) The interaction of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model and critical thinking in the face of students' critical thinking skills. The sample was carried out in two classes, class VI1 as many as 36 students as an experiential class with a Problem Based Learning (PBL) model and class VI2 as a control class as many as 32 students who were taught with the Direct Intruction model. Data collection instruments using critical thinking tests in the form of Multiple Choice as many as 15 items. This research method is quasi-experimental with data analysis techniques using a 2-line Anova test with a significant level of α = 0.05.. The results of this study obtained that: (1) The ability to think critically based on the learning model was obtained that the Fhitung value = 7,558 and the probability value or significant value of the learning model was 0.010 < 0.05.; (2) There is an interaction between learning models and critical thinking and critical thinking; (0.008 < 0.05). For other researchers, it is recommended that before conducting the PBL model treatment, it should be socialized to class VI children and teachers in the school where the research is being studied.
