Application and Role of ICT in Religious Education

This study sought to examine the important role of ICT in religious education. It examined the primary place of religion especially in the Nigerian context where all life activities are defined from the perspective of religion. It makes the argument that religious education can no longer impart and impact successfully without being technology competent and ICT compliant. The study showed that there are some constraints to the implementation of ICT in religious education. Some recommendations were proffered.

The use of ICT in teaching religious education in primary school

The purpose of the present study is to investigate students' understanding of Religious instruction and more specifically the understanding of the Parable of the Prodigal Son, using a didactic approach with the aid of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The sample was comprised of two identical classes of 20 pupils each, aged 6 to 7, attending the first grade of primary school in Heraklion, Crete. Quantitative planning and more specifically experimental research were used to conduct this research. The sample was divided into two groups, an experimental one and a control one. The experimental group was taught through an intervention using ICTs as an auxiliary of teaching. The control group was taught according to the traditional instruction. The results showed significant improvement in the understanding of the Parable of the Prodigal Son in the experimental group in comparison to the control group.

Information and Communication Technology (ICT): An Integral Part of Instructional Materials Required in Teaching and Learning of Christian Religious Studies in Senior Secondary Schools in Onitsha North Local Government Area

This study examined Information and Communication Technology (ICT): An Integral Part of Instructional Materials Required in Teaching and Learning of Christian Religious Studies in Senior Secondary Schools in Onitsha North Local Government Area. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. Three research questions guided the study. Purposive sampling was used to select 10permanent CRS teachers from 10 schools, and 19 students each from (art classes) of the 10 sample schools. Questionnaires were used of the collection of relevant data which addressed the research question that were formulated. Mean response (X) was used to analyze the research question. Result showed that the use of ICT tools in teaching and learning of CRS will improve students’ performance in the following ways: fasten transfer of knowledge, arouse and sustain students’ interest in CRS, encourage more students’ participation, and make students become versatile and globally alert, among others. It was recommended among other things that good and functional educational technology centers should be established and maintained at federal, state, local, school and individual levels for development, maintenance and provision of relevant ICT tools.

APPLICATION OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT) IN TEACHING RELIGION IN NIGERIAN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS: ISSUES AND CHALLENGES

The world today is driven by technology which has brought about development in all the spheres of human endeavour. The paper therefore examined information communication technology (ICT) which can be seen in computers, satellite, global system of mobile communication (GSM) and their application to the teaching of religion in Nigerian tertiary institutions. The paper established that relying on text books today can not make for effective teaching and learning as it has become old fashioned. As a result of the above, the paper does not only call for the acquisition of ICT knowledge by the teacher of religion but acknowledged that it has become a necessity in the modern world. The paper thus call on the government to make provision of ICT in Tertiary and other levels of education so as to ensure that Nigeria remains relevant in the global scheme of things educationally. ease the problem of communication amongst its citizens. The government equally launched the Nigeria sat one (Satellite) into the orbit. Corporate organization is Nigeria such as Banks, Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examination Council (NECO), Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), as well as security agencies have similarly incorporated the use of information and communication technology in their day to day activities.

In this article, we try to answer to a fundamental question that whether convergence and compatibility is between rhizomatic and religious education or there exist any contradiction, conflict and incompatibility between the two. Whether one can talk about the religious education based on rhizomatic approach? With comparison and analysis of the epistemological presupposition relying on religious and rhizomatic educations, we can say that due to differences and incompatibilities between epistemological presuppositions of rhizomatic approach to education as well as epistemological presupposition of religious education, it is impossible to talk about a religious education particularly compatible with rhizomatic approach to truth and knowledge.

INTEGRATION OF INFORMATION AND COMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY INTO ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION TEACHER TRAINING

Integrating ICT in teacher training has become an absolute necessity over recent years. This research highlights the role of training as a means to improve Islamic religious education teacher competence in ICT. Specifically, the case-study research aim is to describe the level of ICT integration into the Islamic religious education training, referring to "education-and-training", at a religious training center (RTC) in Palembang, Indonesia. Thirty teachers of Indonesian Islamic school (madrasah) and two facilitators at the RTC acted as informants in the research. Using the interactive model of qualitative analysis by Miles and Huberman, the research results indicated that the participants have already integrated ICT but were restricted to using presentations, especially the PowerPoint computer program. Secondly, age and technical problems became the major constraints to realize such integration. With respect to the availability of facilities, the RTC is in good category.

Formation of Religious Culture Based on Information Technology in Pesantren

Pesantren is an Islamic educational institution that has distinctive characteristics, which is a deeply religious culture. However, along with the industrial revolution 4.0 that brought influence in various aspects of this life, pesantren should face problems, one of which is the erosion of its religious culture. Therefore, pesantren needs to address widely the unavoidable development of information technology, giving new color to religious culture in pesantren that is strongly nuanced but up-to-date Islamic teachings. This paper seeks to examine the formation of religious culture based on information technology that can provide an alternative in facing the problem. A multidisciplinary perspective, namely social, economic and psychological, are used in the analysis. The research method was a literature review with a content data analysis. The results of the study include: 1) Religious values that can be developed through the religious culture based on information technology in pesantren include divinity, humanity, and nationality; 2) The implementation of the religious culture based on information technology in a multidisciplinary perspective showed that a) a social perspective can be done by developing students' skills through communication and information media; b) an economic perspective by developing entrepreneurial skills based on information technology; c) a psychological perspective by tazkiyah al-nafs.

Many religious background people have already been engaged in the information technology to promote their religious teachings. The website development and preaching, utilization of social media and promoting religious teachings through mobile are one of the channels. Da’wah or Islamic preaching has been on such online medium and information technology that had played a vital role in distributing it in various regions around the world. It’s like a global preaching technique where one can invite anyone on Da’wah without caring for distance, cost or resource. With that, online Da’wah courses, websites and blogs are the tools of preaching Islam and act as an effective way to promote them. This research is proposing the positive role of Information technology with a discussion on limitations which can be described in comparative way. That way, this research outlines the role of Information technology and its effectiveness on preaching of Da’wah in descriptive way. Capacities of Cyberspace for Religious Education

Regarding the functions of the religion in contemporary world, the cyberspace can play a decisive role in teaching, research and call for the religion. Also in regard of practice of the religion and serving the humanity, this technology could be utilized and used as a very helpful instrument, but it depends on how to understand the religion and how to implement it. Ethics and Etiquette is needed for usage of this instrument. While we find that some of the extremists and terrorists are using it against the humanity and even against the fame and image of the religion, this makes a duty for the higher experts in the field of the ICT and cyberspace and also religious leaders to protect the younger generation and the future of the mankind.
