Development and Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Computer-Assisted Physics Instruction
International Education Studies, 2014
This study aims to design and develop an interactive software for teaching and learning physics about motion and vectors analysis. This study also assesses its effectiveness in classroom and assesses the learning motivation of SMA Pekanbaru's students. The software is developed using ADDIE Model design and Life Cycle Model and built using the program Delphi Seventh version by considering design, technical, pedagogical, and the content of its learning material. The research was conducted through quasi-experiment upon XI grade students of SMA Pekanbaru. The evaluation of the software was done by the experts of design, pedagogic, technical, and learning material. After the evaluation, this software was also evaluated by expert users consisting of 31 experienced physics teachers from senior high schools in Pekanbaru. The population consisted of six classes XI grade students of SMA Pekanbaru, where two of them are randomly selected. One of the two classes, then, was determined as experimental group while the other as control group. The experimental group consisted of 38 students, with 19 boys and 19 girls whereas the control group consisted of 37 students with 17 boys and 19 girls. The sampling was based on homogeneity and normality test. The finding shows that the reliability based on Cronbach Alpha is α=0.740. Learning physics using interactive software "Motion and Vector Analysis" has affected students' conceptual understanding by 81.16 compared to students learning using traditional method, which was only 35.86. Through t-test, it was found that students' conceptual understanding was different from value t= -22.725, p= 0.00 with α= 0.05. Students' motivation to learn in the post-test was better for students who learn using the software than those who learned using traditional method. Finding based on gender found that the conceptual understanding of male students and female students were similar. Learning motivation for both male and female students has also increased. Therefore, learning physics with "Motion and Vectors Analysis" topics using interactive software is more effective than learning using traditional method.
The study investigated the use and effect of Computer Assisted Instruction Teaching Strategy (CAITS) on students' achievement in Physics. The purpose of the study was to diagnose and correct identified students' weaknesses in Physics by comparing their performances after being taught with Computer Assisted Instruction Teaching Strategy (CAI) and Conventional Teaching Method (CMT). A sample of fifty (50) students was drawn from a secondary school in Ife South Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria. The students were grouped into Experimental Group (EG) and Control Group (CG). CAITS was used to diagnose the experimental group while CTM was used for the control group. Physics Achievement Test (PAT) was used as a posttest to determine the achievement level of both experimental and control groups. The test items of PAT were validated and used for data collection. Analysis of data by t-test parameters were used to compare the achievement scores of the EG and CG students on PAT. The findings of this study largely showed that the use of CAITS in teaching-learning process is more effective in improving the students' achievement and retention of learning concepts than the CTM in Physics classroom practices. Hence, the diagnosis, knowledge and correction of identified students' weaknesses can strengthen the Physics teachers with necessary teaching competence, behaviour and innovation required to rescue the students from learning difficulties and failure.
Analysis of Understanding Physics Concepts in terms of Students' Learning Styles and Thinking Styles
Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan IPA (JPPIPA), 2022
There are three types of student learning styles used in the study, namely visual, auditory and kinesthetic and four types of thinking styles used in this study, namely Concrete Sequential, Abstract Sequential, Concrete Random, and Abstract Random. This study aims to analyze the level of understanding of physics concepts in terms of students' learning styles and thinking styles and examines learning styles and thinking styles that most influence the level of conceptual understanding. This study uses a quantitative approach, survey methods, and descriptive techniques. The population in this study were all students of SMAN 9 Banda Aceh, while the sample was 116 grade 2 students of SMA Negeri 9 Banda Aceh. Data analysis used descriptive statistical tests and data triangulation. The results of the analysis show that the level of understanding of students is at the second level, namely not understanding dominance compared to other levels of understanding concepts. Furthermore, it is obtained that a high kinesthetic learning style affects the level of understanding of concepts with a visual learning style. As for the thinking style, it was found that the concrete sequential thinking style was more dominant in influencing the level of conceptual understanding compared to other thinking styles.

This research aimed to explore the influence of Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) on students' performance in Physics within selected secondary schools in Sokoto Metropolis. The study sought to determine if there were significant differences in academic performance between conventional and experimental groups based on pre-test scores. The research was conducted with SS1 students from public and private science secondary schools in the area. Two schools were purposively selected, and a sample of thirty (30) students was chosen from each SS1 class. The quasi-experimental research design was used, guided by three (3) research questions. Data were collected using the Physics Test Performance (PTP) instrument, and both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed for data analysis. The findings indicated that CAI holds the potential to address some challenges in Physics teaching and learning, reducing the subject's abstract nature, and positively impacting students' academic performance and retention abilities. As a result, the study recommends that physics teachers, as well as science teachers in general, adopt the CAI approach. Furthermore, providing specialized training to science teachers on effective computer and technology utilization in teaching Physics is encouraged.

This study examines the increasing attention of student in learning using three variations of Physics Assisted Learning Interactive Computer Program (PFBPKI) as Self Operated Instrument (SOI) , and PFBPKI as a medium, as well as learning without PFBPKI on three superior class-1, class-2 and regular class, through a quasi-experimental study factorial. The attention significantly increased from the three variations of learning , the three classes of treatment [F (2, 253) = 183.92 , p < 0.05] with the effect size of 59%, the difference class in attention was significant [F (2,253) = 8.39, p < 0.05] with effect size by 6 %, while the effect of the interaction between learning with classroom variation was also significant [F (2,253) = 8.39, p < 0.05] with effect size by 7 %. The analysis showed increased interest in learning variations contribution is much larger than the class differences and interactions. So the authors speculation that attention affects the learning process empirical can be proved. This study found the junior high school students are more interested in studying physics with PFBPKI operated by their selves, and giving much attention to the relatively high contribution to the regular classes, its mean that computerassisted learning contribute to increase the learning attention of all junior high school students.
