Fall 2010 xxv RESEARCH IN THE SCHOOLS Professional presentations represent an important and common method of disseminating information, in general, and research findings and methodological, theoretical, and conceptual frameworks, in particular. However, for many persons, especially beginning researchers and scholars, delivering effective presentations is extremely challenging. As such, professional presentations can be exceedingly anxiety-inducing events. Thus, in this editorial, we provide helpful evidence-based guidelines to help beginning researchers and scholars refine their presentation skills. We present detailed information to readers regarding the components of a quality professional presentation for a variety of presentation media and audience types, design principles for slide show presentations, and general dress and demeanor guidelines.
Insight on Delivering Oral Presentation: Preparations, Problems, and Solutions

The importance of being able to perform a good oral presentation is undeniably necessary for academician nowadays, including students of higher education. To show their capacity, the students need to be prepared in delivering their presentation. However, the current students' presentation skill is still far from the expectation. Therefore, this article aims at sharing several facts dealing with presentation skill in terms of preparations, problems faced during presentation, and the ways to cope with the problems. This study was conducted as a qualitative research with descriptive approach. Questionnaire and interview were distributed and performed to five respondents to gather the data needed. The findings show that preparation involving content mastery and practice are the keys to be successful in presentation. Meanwhile, the problems faced are highly related to the respondents' nervousness due to time limitation and audiences, which cause losing idea while performing. To overcome these, some strategies such as believing in their abilities, skipping less important points, and anticipating possible questions from the audiences were employed. Based on the research results, it is suggested that speaker should be trained to be more aware of the preparations and strategies needed for presentation since the main keys to the success of delivering good presentation are highly determined by knowing how to prepare well and being able to use the strategies more appropriately and frequently.

However, their effectiveness has been questioned by many. This article intends to provide, in a synthetized way, several recommendations that can help make presentation more effective.
Professional Presentation: Factors Influencing Oral Presentation
Oral presentation has become an important aspect of modern workplace and engineers usually perform oral presentations to keep management of the organization well informed about progress of company projects. This study examined factors that influenced effective oral presentation performance of engineers at workplace. Six engineers from 2 engineering organizations of Pakistan participated in this study. Purposive sampling was used since engineers with 5 years work experience were selected as participants for this study. All presentations were recorded to capture barriers that hampered effective oral presentation performance of engineers. Data were analyzed qualitatively through an assessment rubric. It contained four traits such as presentation skill, confidence, nervousness and vocal variety. Three assessors assessed these presentations to overcome researcher bias. The results of the study revealed that poor presentation skill, poor confidence and nervousness hindered effective oral presentation performance of engineers. The findings of the study would contribute to prepare better future engineers for modern industry.
Effective oral presentation among undergraduates

Success in oral pesentation skills contributes to students’ success in academic performance as well as their social life. It is important for teachers to know their students’ needs and social background in order to encourage them to share information relevant to their interests with their peers to improve their oral presentation skills. This study investigates the factors that affect oral presentation among undergraduates. This quantitative study used Likert scale questionnaire to collect data from 100 undergraduates at a private university in Malaysia (UNITAR International University). The data were analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) in the form of mean, standard deviation, and variance. Presentation skills amongst surgical trainees at a national conference: an observational study

Objectives The ability to deliver public presentations is important for doctors of all specialities. Despite this, there is little emphasis on training in presentation skills within medical curriculae. The aim of this paper was to establish the current standard of presentations being delivered by surgical trainees at a national conference and to confirm the need for further training.

The present paper is an evaluation of those skill clusters and practices that are associated with superior ratings of executive presentation skills. It focuses on improving executive presentation skills. It explains the basics of oral presentation skills in general that apply across domains including that of business and management. Six sets practices were found to be characteristic of effective executive business presentation: the preparation, the delivery, and the questions and answers that follow the delivery. As Pappas and Hendricks (2000) and DiStanza, and Legge, 2002 found that an effective executive presentation includes the presenter's mastery and skill in technical content, organization, delivery and relating to the audience.
